1. a "Windows user" is one who continually gets a 403 error but keeps returning here, hoping for a different result. IE. a total and complete idiot.
Been trying for hours to use Xbox 360 to access music and other files on my compuer, using both Drive address and network address. ALL files can be seen successfully on WMC on the Vista computer but nothing on the Xbox 360 -- except some photos on my son's XP machine (that worked easily).Could really use a simple solution to this please!

So tried to change the properties so everyone can access the files. See the current owner is Unix user 501. I tried to change with administration privileges but the unix files will not let me.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have numerous files (Excel format mostly (Office 2007)) that I copied over from a PC running XP Professional. Whenever I update one and then try to save I get a popup that it is trying to save to "c" with the name Copy Of filename. Not what I want but figure I can always rename it, but when I click Save I get a popup telling me "A required permission is not held by the client". I am the only user of this PC and am the adminstrator. I have read thru several post here that talk about UAC and have right clicked on the files and went to the security tab and assigned full rights for every user listed but it still wont let me save the file after making changes

I can access it fine with my laptop through my private network with my Vista Laptop (Ultimate x86), but I am unable to access the share with another XP machine (XP Home). What's interesting, is when I ping the machine name from my vista laptop to it, the name gets resolved to ipv6, and it receives responses. However, when I use the same machine to ping it using it's ipv4 address, it receives no responses. I figure this might be the problem, but the XP machine also has ipv6 installed, and is still not able to resolve the address.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhenever i create a new email by click "To" to open up my address book for selecting any email address, or when i use "reply all" and want to add in some more email address from the address book, the computer start to run and till it stuck, so the only choice for me is to end this task and type email address instead of selecting email address from address book.
i thought that this is because i got too many email address, thus i deleted most of it and now only got 700 email address inside my address book, i just can not understand that when outlook express can take more than 3000 email address book, but windows mail can not take about 700 email address book. And somemore, this email address book is just useless for me, because whenever i want to use the address book, the windows mail is going to hang... and the only choice is to go to task manager, end this task and restart my windows mail.

I want to change the start menu and get rid of a bunch of garbage but I can't enter the folder to do so. When I use the start menu program, it only has a few basic folders. This happens frequently, even when trying to view pictures or video in the folder. What do I need to change to remove this very annoying problem?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have my laptop connecting to a server under AD control. My laptop is not joined to AD by design. I set up some files using 'Sync' to have them available to me offline. My AD password has since changed and I cannot connect to the server to have access to other files set up for offline access. When I attempt to remap the drive, I get an error stating I am already connected using the credentials provided. This is not true, since I cannot access the server. What do I need to do to fix this problem?

He was setting the parental controls and managed to control his account which had admin access. the user listing has the account listing as an admin but he only has standard user access. His was the "only" admin account.. While he was doing this he managed to deny access to the boot drive. The drive reads as "Access Denied". The machine boots up and a person can play games etc.. but network access is restricted.

It's all fine, but I want to (easily & quickly!) restrict & control when some laptops can access the internet while allowing free access to the server. (For instance, so children's internet access can be monitored but they can always get to photos & backups, etc. on the server.)

View 5 Replies View RelatedI ran Spybot S&D, got rid of any viruses it got and Mallware Bytes, again, removed everything. Even ran McAfee and got rid of whatever. But each time i run the scan on Spybot S&D it finds site that redirect me. I press fix selected items but it responds by saying "cannot access hosts file. Access is denied" I tried to untick the "protect hosts file form hijackers" in IE tweaks but keeps getting checked. On top of that the Hosts file is missing.

We have tried everything, even changing the cord. We have cable internet and I'm on a router/hub with 3 other people. ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
But all of a sudden, I cant. I talked to my ISP and they say that nothing change on their side and I still have a dynamic IP. I believe that maybe one of the updates is responsible for this, I update to SP1 and almost every update exist for vista. So, my question is, do you know maybe on an update that can cause this?
I have 4 pc''s on my network. UNfortunately 1 is vista. I can ping the other 3 pcs in vista but i cannot see/connect to them them. How the hell do you search by ip address in vista?. In xp youi simply right click on network and search. I cannot find anyway to do this in vista.

my OS is Vista Ultimate, and I get IP from dhcp server to connect Internet I mean my IP is like 10.x.x.x. When I was using XP, If I use ipconfig/release & ipconfig/renew, then I can get a new IP from dhcp. But now, the method above can't refresh my dynamic IP address. If I want to change my IP address, I must first set a static IP and connect to gateway then disable my ethernet adapter, cancel the static IP and use dhcp again. Finally, MAYBE I can get a new IP. Even I reboot or shut down my computer for a whole day. When my computer gets to dhcp server if there isn't any other computer is USING my IP then I can't get a new one. I want to know, How can I refresh my IP address easily under Vista?

What happens is when the users start the pc's they get a message saying the IP address is in use and they have to go and manually change the address to get working. All the pc's are configured with static ip addresses and have been checked to make sure they are on different addresses. Has anyone got any ideas on what is causing this? I have seen one workaround which involved adding some batch files to the startup routine to swap between static and DHCP but I do not want to go down tis route.

But I do not know where to get the media from? The laptop company where I bought my laptop they do not have 64 bit Vista Ultimate version. Also why does 32-bit Ultimate can not address more than 3GB? Is that a limitation?
