While reading in Vista's help center it highlights text, it's annoying. Is this a function of "Ease of Access" or something else? How do I turn it off? Using 64bit Win Premium on an HP Pavilion laptop.
In Vista Windows Mail the email addresses of multiple people I am sending an email to shows in the reciptients mail next to their name. I can't find anywhere to turn this feature off.
How can you turn off the annoying User Account Control feature without Vista telling that you have turned it off, and having an icon in the system tray telling you that it is turned off?
I used a very convenient little tool which was coloring a folder/key in the left pane of regedit with a different color. Vista's colors are too subdued for me.
I've come across an annoying bug with Vista, occassionally when I left click on an item I get the delete prompt on the selected item. The bug is unpredictable and happens and then goes away. I will just be working left click and the permission dialog to delete pops up. Left click NO on the permission dialog recalls the delete function and starts a vicions loop that seems to fail after a large number of NO clicks. It also seems to occur when a higlight is made to select a menu item.
I have my Vista laptop (HP) hooked up to an external monitor, I have been using the sleep mode at night. The laptop is closed and on a shelf that is very hard to get to. I would like to shut it off at night. I can shut it off with the keyboard. Is there any way possibly software controlled to turn it back on? To reach the power button on the laptop you must first raise the lid which there is not room to do
For some weird reason the fonts in vista 64 are blurry when in the middle of my screen. if i scroll up or down then the blurry text goes clear and the text above it goes blurry. i have tried.. turning on and off clertype.. i just bought a brand new lcd.
Running Windows Vista Ultimate. Display turns off after about fifteen minutes regardless of whether I am actively using the computer or not. The only way to turn the display back on is to close and then open the lid. This disconnets me from AOL, so I have to sign back on again, and if I was emailing, I might lose my current email. Under Power Options, I have 'Turn off the display' set to Never for both On Battery and Plugged in. Under 'Put the computer to sleep' I have both On battery and Plugged in set to never. Nonetheless, the display still shuts off while I am working. What do I need to do to prevent the display from turning off at odd intervals?
I am embarrassed to ask it. Previously I had WindowsXP on my laptop - to turn it off you went to Start, Turn Off Computer. This laptop is using Vista, and I cannot find anything comparable. Last night I turned it off using the off-on button, so got the Windows did not shut off properly message when I turned it on; and I have a "thing" about leaving my computer on overnight. Also, is there a way of hiding all the command bars to "hide" like you can with the taskbar on the bottom?
Ive always use vista home premium, but after I used glary tools to defrag my regestry and then it said restart my comp annd i did, then whe i go to my pc, i see it has windows basic features, like on aero. So i went to personalinize and I SEE NO AERO feature!
I am taking a Windows Vista class which requires that I post my favorite feature. So far I have found that the snipping tool has made taking screenshots and saving them much easier.
when i get it reinstalled, (no the repair feature didn't work) i'll let you know how smart i was to have a separate hard drive just for data -too bad MS isn't smart enough to keep all my settings, email, downloads, updates (that reminds me - i think i have to download service pack again (i'm on dialup)) high scores and program files on a separate drive --
I have win vista ultimate 32bit. I want to disable Sleep feature to reclaim 1.50 gb on my system drive (because I have 1.50 gb of ram) of space consumed by its hibernation file. tell me how to do I have tried to disable it but to no avail.
Can anyone get the restore feature working, 95% of the time on trying it out, it fails to restore, and it only seems to keep a few days chekpoint, why doesn;t it work like XP or am I missing soemthing?
Tab feature in web browsers like Firefox and IE 7 has definitely improved our efficiency as windows can be toggled much easier and faster within the same windows via tabs. Have you ever thought to have such a great feature in Microsoft Office as well? Now there is a nifty add-on, named as OfficeTab that is able to add tab feature in Microsoft Word, Excel & Powerpoint.
Does anyone else feel they were robbed by purchasing Windows Vista Ultimate? I mean seriously now, all I heard prior to release was about these fantastic extras which Ultimate users would be able to install thanks to the Windows Ultimate extras feature under Windows update. Ok now lets count the number of Ultimate Extras released thus far. Left hand up, Bitlocker, Dreamscene, Hold-em poker, hmmmm..... I cant think of any more! Come on Microsoft, you are being ridiculous. If you want people to carry on buying the top of the range product and giving them nothing extra for the huge extra amount of money!
I work in different 3D programs and I have never had this problem before, and it only happens in Vista. When I create an image, my programs create the image, and I can save it with no problem. When I create an animation, the programs need to save the file after it creates each frame. Vista is blocking those programs from doing this, and I need to have them allowed to create and save these files constantly. I like the security that Vista has, but is there any way to allow just certain programs to do this while keeping that security feature on for everything else?
ABility to turn off features, disable services/components, set backrgound to plain black, font colors to silver, and kill all gadgets, and just have APPLICATIONS open. When I work as an engineer, the las tthing I need are sidebars, clocks, weathers, and idiotic ninsense I can get when I NEED, not in my face.OCCUPYING VALUABLE DESKTOP SPACE.
I have a dozen hardcore apps open each of which may cost in $tens of thousands, Do I need to know time in London when I am coding a Microcontroler in C, and switch over to datsheet to check some chip pinout, and enter schematics and run a simulation?
The favorite feature about Vista on my opinion is the Aero that it has. It creates a more visual look on the window and makes the graphics look better.
After booting up my laptop and reaching the desktop, the right click feature will stop immediately after starting up completely, and clicking on anything is a problem on it's own. The only way I have found to work around it is to Ctrl + Alt + Del and Switch User, then go to the power options and restart, as the conventional way of shutting down does not work. I contacted my laptops manufacturer (ASUS) and they suggested that it could be a touchpad driver problem. So they emailed me the latest driver and I downloaded it. To my surprise, it actually worked..... for about 5 minutes. The right clicking problem still persisted. So I looked into other forums and they suggested a problem with some Context Menu Handlers. I downloaded the suggested program 'ShellExView' and followed the instructions down to the letter on how to use it. Currently, as I'm typing this post, I have had to copy and paste patches of text because when the right click feature stops, the keyboard disengages, and the only workaround is the power button.
I've got a pretty insignificant, but weird bug: the highly hyped, hardly useful 3d flip feature of Vista has just magically disapeared from my comp. Only thing I know I've done was installing the latest x64 security update (KB958644) just before this. The icon is still there, but it just brings up the old school blue box version, and winKey-tab no longer does anything. Anybody heard of an update removing this feature, or know where the mysterious 'flip' files are actually located?
I'm having a problem with the overlay title on selected clips feature on WMM bleeding from one pix to another. I have around 300 pix and all are fine but a couple of cells. I don't want to slow the transition on all pix and I don't think it's possible to do it on select ones. Is there any other way to correct this problem?
i just read brinks discussion on removing the desktop from the personalize window and i was just wondering how to get that back the active desktop feature in regedit
I continue to receive a dialogue box asking for my password and E-Mail address. When I put it in the box nothing happens. how to disable the Communities feature in Windows Mail?
I think as far back as win95 if you used windows explorer with status bar enabled (for vista this is called details plane) if you select a folder (in the navigation plane) in the status bar it would list the total number of items AND the total file size for all the files in the selected folder. Vista seems to have lost this feature and only the total amount of items are listed.
I'm a programmer so this feature has proved useful for me in certian cases. the workaround is to select all files but still why remove it from the unselected view? I can also detail out 4 other annoyances with the new explorer if MS would like more details shoot me an email.
1. Decending Sort in list mode kicks all the folders to the end of the file listing unlike previous versions of windows where the folders were sorted but stayed at the begining of the listing (should make this an option for what method the user would like to use).................
Is there some new feature in windows vista which allocates hard drive space? I installed vista and windows updates (19Gb just for drivers, updates, and vista ultimate). Here is all that I have installed, now look at how much space is gone. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?
after weeks of fighting, troubleshooting, debugging, deleting, reloading, uninstalling, installing etc etc etc. I have finally come to the conclusion, that being able to print, is simply no longer a feature with windows operating system. Unless someone can tell me a fix that no one has discovered yet. I refuse to believe that the fix to our printing problems, is throw out the PC and get a new one. If thats the case i'm sure that there will be many people like myself who make the leap to MAC!
I have been trying to dowload programmes from the BBC iplayer site but first it tries to install Adobe AIR. This fails, giving a meaningless Windows message stating that the installer has stopped working. I can't get the Manage Attachments feature to work so I can't upload images of the error messages. I have an administrator account.
Following instruction, I downloaded AIR directly from the Adobe site and found that it still wouldn't install on my account. It asks me twice if I want to run the installation exe file but from two different locations which is weird. Once again I can't upload an image for some reason but the first Open File dialogue box has: Name: ...mon Gail_BecxDesktopAdobeAIRInstaller.exe Publisher: Adobe Systems Incorporated............
