XP Sound Recorder: MPEG Layer-3

Mar 25, 2009

I need MPEG Layer-3!I’ve installed my old XP Sound Recorder into my new (Vista) computer. It works… but lacks the MPEG Layer-3 Format I need for compressing WAVs.In his earlier reply to me at http://www.vistax64.com/sound-audio/189750-vista-vs-xp-sound-recorder.html , sanantonio007 says he can now access MPEG Layer-3 in XP Sound Recorder after following Brady Lee’s instructions here: This Missing CODEC thing is making me crazy Lee’s instructions say that the “missing” codec problem is due to a Windows/System 32 file that should read l3codecp.acm instead of l3codeca.acm. Lee goes on to describe a regedit modification to change the l3codeca.acm file to l3codecp.acm.

However, I already have a l3codecp.acm file in Windows/System 32 (as well as the “erroneous” l3codeca.acm.) So that doesn’t look like my solution. Someone else told me that if I downloaded the MPEG Layer-3 codec from a dbpoweramp music converter link, it would install itself everywhere - & my XP Sound Recorder would be back up and running. Has anyone tried that? Does anyone know if (or where) I could get just the dbpoweramp MPEG Layer-3 codec, & not lots of other stuff I don’t need or want? Better yet… does anyone have a simpler solution? All I want is to run my old XP Sound Recorder in Vista – WITH the MPEG Layer-3 Format WAV compression format,

Forced To Downloading MPEG Files

Apr 4, 2008

I noticed that weeks ago I could simply click at a site with an MPEG file and view it without having to download it. Now I am forced (at least at one site) to download it. What can I change of anything to have Vista automatically open it and view it from the remote site.

Files Appear As MPEG With The Icon Showing Balloons

Jan 5, 2010

I am in the process of transferring some old analogue VHS tapes to my pc running Vista with a view to re-editing them in "Windows Movie Maker". I am using a "One Touch Video Grabber" to do this. As I want to keep the quality as high as possible I have selected "DVD" from the list of formats available with this device. The files arrive OK into the chosen folder and appear as MPEG with the icon showing balloons with MPEG written in the centre.

So far so good. These files will play OK in "Windows Media Player" but are impossible to import into Movie Maker which displays a message to this effect. This makes things a bit difficult. Vista normally shows avi/mpg/ etc files as a thumbnail frame of the film in question with the icon of the program that opens them in the bottom right hand corner.( eg a little yellow arrow in the case of Media Player or a red teddy bear in the case for IrfanView) But this does not happen with these MPEG files, they remain as the MPEG balloon icon. However, for some reason I have found that the icon "MPEG" will suddenly be displayed as normal and then the file CAN be imported to Movie Maker. Mostly they remain unchanged and cant be used. I have no idea what causes this.........

Movies & Videos Not Closing In VMC

Feb 2, 2009

I have a minor but annoying problem with playing movies or videos in VMC. Once you have watched the Mov/Vid and stop it and say you are done it sits in the main screen menu as now playing - eventually to start again of its own accord. The only way to stop this happening is to close VMC and reopen it.

Watching Movies On TV Can't Working

Aug 5, 2008

recently I have connected my laptop (Toshiba A135-S4467) to my CRT TV via S-video. this laptop came with a Vista home premium 32bit OS. I have converted it to XP Pro. when I watched movie files (at any player, any file type) on the TV (I used extended desktop option) there was no problem. 2 weeks ago I have re-converted the laptop to Vista OS (using Toshiba's restore disks). and now the problem: when I try to watch movie file (DVD, AVI, MPEG....) on the TV (with any player) the picture has for distortions that can be seen only on the TV screen and not on the computer LCD. I'm using the same hardware as with the XP and I'm using the same TV and the same settings. changing the resolution hasn'the distortion can be seem like offset lines in the middle of the screen.

WMP Playing Videos And Movies Upside Down

Mar 23, 2008

I don't know why but sometimes movies and such are played upside down in WMP, I opened the file in windows movie maker the first time it happened, thinking it was just the file, so I was going to turn it around, but in WMM the file played right side up. I tried it in VLC Media player, and again it played right side up. Then I ripped a dvd and again it was upside down in media player but other players played it right side up. Now it's not ALL videos that play upside down, only some, I"m not sure what's going on. does anyone know how to fix this?

Windows DVD Maker Not Burning Movies

Mar 11, 2009

I normally use Windows DVD maker to burn movies and for some unknown reason, it just won't burn :/ So, in order not to wait forever for the encoding stage AND finding out I still have a burning issue, I then founf a program called 'ConvertxToDVD' which I'm sure your familiar with. Encoded my movie perfect, but same problem, will not burn, although, it did get to something like 48% but then spat it out. I don't understand why its doing this as I have never had this problem before hand until now (my luck only) and to top things off, my DVD+RW won't erase.

I browsed the internet and came across this website to do with IDE/SATA and my properties wasn't the same as this persons. Instead of showing 'Master'and 'Primary' mine shows 'Port 0' and 'Port 1' -surely there's something wrong?

How To Convert Favorite DVD Movies Into Avi For Further Editing

Apr 20, 2009

This guide shows you the way to convert 'DVD video to AVI' format with uncompressed codec and less compressed codec to play on Windows Media Player, to further edit video, to import AVI video to PowerPoint, Windows Movie Maker, and so on.DVD generally stands for Digital Video Disc or Digital Versatile Disc. DVD, providing large space and interactive content, has been widely used as data storage of video, audio, games, presentation, and so on. For DVDs with movies, there are three kinds of files under the VIDEO_TS folder, i.e. VOB, IFO, and BUP files. A VOB contains data for video (generally MPEG-2), audio and subtitles. IFO Files contain the data for player navigation, such as the start of a chapter, the control of subtitle, and so on. BUP files are just backup files of the IFOs.............

Media Centre To Play 1/2 The 500 Gb Worth Of Movies

Mar 22, 2009

I have had this new HP vista media centre computer for 2 weeks, and can't get Media Centre to play 1/2 the 500 gb worth of movies that my old XP media Centre played without any trouble at all! Some are MPEG-4, others are div-x, some are Dvd format. I have seen others with similar posts in other forums and I have loaded up all the lates codecs (safe one) from Divx, and ffdshow etc... I have to play all my movies with Nero or Media Player, which both have no issues with. I feel like this is a dud, and can't believe that a full hard recovery is worth the trouble.

Pictures, Fonts, Graphics, Movies Look Crummy

Mar 23, 2008

I bought a new computer--a COMPAQ f756nr notebook PC--and Vista was pre-installed. I connect to the internet via wireless modem and use cable internet connection. Everything looks terrible to me versus my old laptop computer--a Toshiba--and my old system, XP. I brought my computer back to Best Buy and the Geek Squad reps there looked at the computer and told me it was fine, just the way Vista looks on a computer and I should get used to it. Since I got this computer last week, I'm absolutely miserable and don't know what to do. I used to watch tv shows on my computer and email pictures but everything looks so bad.

"Vista Will Not Play MPEG Or MP3 Files If Vista Thinks They Are Illegal Downloads"

Feb 11, 2008

I was discussing Vista with a few friends over on a Linux website. They say: Vista will not play MPEG or MP3 files if Vista thinks they are illegal downloads. Vista will not allow you to store downloaded music. Vista calls home every day to tell MS what programs, keystrokes and internet sites you use. Vista will not allow you to Copy a DVD for your own home use as a backup. Is any of this true? I have yet to have any problems. I do value what little privacy I can get so if Vista calls home everyday that's crap...
