who has purchased a JVC Everio HDD video camera has probably learned that they chose to use some god forsaken proprietary video format - the .MOD extension. Apparently this is some sort of MPEG2 encoding, however, most major video editing suites prefer not to accept this format? what we need is something more common? such as .AVI or .MPG. I would be happy with the .MOD file format if the software that came with the JVC Everio actually worked.

I have recently set up my vista media center pc and I have set up 2 xbox360's as media extenders. What I would like to do is make home movies (no editing) and drag and drop thes video files to Vista pc and then be able to watch the video on my media extenders. I am going to buy a new video camera, a hd model with a hard drive. My question is can I do this without converting the video to another format? Does anyone make a camcorder that records in a format that is supported by media center or does anyone make a plugin for media center that will allow AVCHD playback? I cannot publish my movie with windows movie maker, although I cannot detect any problem. All the clips used in the movie are .avi, it is 41 clips in total and the movie length is 2 min 33 sec. When I try to publish the publishing process starts but then cancels and gives me this message: "Windows Movie Maker cannot publish the movie to the specified location. Verify, that the original source files used in your movie are still available, that the publishing location is still available, that there is enough free disk space available, and then try again." Checked all that and that is not the problem! could not find any solutions in the other threads for WMM.

All the .avi files I have tried to import into Windows Movie Maker have only had the audio, and when I've opened the properties window, it says that they are audio files, even though I imported them as video. Random video clips that came with my computer (.wmv files) work. I know that other people have had to convert their files to .avi files to make them work, but what do you do when it is .avi files that won't work?

The problem seems to be with my .avi videos when I put them on Windows Movie Maker. They're videos i spend days downloading for an AMV that I downloaded from Vuze recently, and they seem to work fine with anything
apart from WMM and Windows DVD Maker (But windows DVD maker is a diff issue anyway that I wont address here).
I've tried all sorts of things. I unticked "AVI DVD Compressor" because when I left it ticked, whenever I tried moving .AVI vids to the timeline it would just say "Windows Movie Maker Has Stopped Working" and close
the whole thing. But unticking it got me atleast somewhere, but now I face yet another problem.....

I've got a darn awesome friend who's having some problems with movie maker, she's bin making a movie maker video for weeks but she cant get it to publish properly somehow I've tried everything in my power to try and solve this but cant...
when she tries to publish the video it publishes it all but when she plays it back the video clips she has put into her video with titles and transitions don't play, the transitions and titles do but the video clips from her camera don't, any solutions

I'm running Windows vista home premium 64 bit and I tried to edit some .avi video files on my windows movie maker but when I tried to edit the file it gave me a black screen in the preview box and only recognized it as audio. Does Windows Movie maker 64 bit not recognize .avi video files or is there something I can do to fix this like download a patch?

I am using Vista Home Premium. I have created a movie with Movie Maker, and when i try to publish the movie with the default settings, its giving an error message: "Movie Maker can not publish the movie. The source files may not be available, or the disk space is not enouth...". I have my source files in the same path, 50GB of free disk space is there. But its not publishing the movie. But, if i select the third option the select bit rate window ie.AVI-DV in the dropdown list, the publishing is successfull. But the .AVI file created is huge in size. Can anyone tell me what is wrong with movie maker, and why it is not able to publish the movie with default settings.
