How To Change Temporary Folder When Burning CD/DVDs
			Jan 25, 2009
How much hard disk space do I need to burn a disc?

If you're using the Live File System format, you don't need to allocate any additional space to burn your disc, since each file is written to the disc as you go.
If you are creating a Mastered disc, however, Windows needs to create a complete "image" of the disc before it is burned. This disc image can be as large as the maximum capacity of the disc you are creating—you might need 650 megabytes (MB) on your hard disk to create a CD-R, or 4.7 gigabytes (GB) to create a DVD-R.

Can I choose where the disc image is stored?

Yes, if you have more than one hard disk installed in your computer, you can specify which disk is used to create your disc image. Here's how:

1. Open Computer by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Computer.
2. Right-click the drive that is your disc burner, and then click Properties.
3. Click the Recording tab, and then click your desired drive from the drive menu. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

I have Vista Business. Recently I found out that the space on my hard driver C: is reducing day by day. I check and found out that my temporary internet folder contains 13 GB of info!!!. I was not able to clean it!!! I tried to scan it for viruses - no effect. I tried DISC CLEAN - no effect. I try manual cleaning the files - no effect. I found out that there is a LOW folder in my TEMPORARY INTERNER FOLDER. This LOW folder is filled with files without extension. The name of this files is EIGHT DIGITS DESH EIGHT DIGITS. The names look like this: "00000012-00000000" without extension. The dates of this files are after each time I turned on my explorer. Please help me. Is this some kind of worm?! How to removed it. I am out of options.

By default Internet Explorer stores a user’s temporary internet files within a user profile typically located under C:Users or C:Documents and Settings. This setting can be easily be changed within Internet Explorer.

I have Windows Vista Ultimate. Quite often I try to change or update the names of a folder, and Vista would not let me allow, and I get dialog boxes telling me that I cannot have access, or do not have persmission, etc, and I get these denials even after I closed all the other files. It gets annoying that I get the "NO" after I already typed the new names. I am the only person who have access to this home PC. How can I change this so the computer will let me change names anytime I want to?

I can't "see" C:UsersusernameAppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsCookies unless I uncheck 'Hide protected operating system files' in folder options. Why would Vista consider the contents of this folder operating system files? How do I change the Hidden attribute for for this folder?

I would like to change the "store folder" for my windows live mail to another computer on my local network. However as soon as I cross into the LAN, the "ok" button to select a folder is grayed out. My goal is to have my XP desktop store my email and calendar items, and then access, view and update from my Vista laptop.

Can anyone tell me if I can change the templates used to display folders in Vista.
I've searched the forums and discovered plenty of tutorials about the problem of Vista remembering the template used and how to change which template is used.

But that is not what I want. I actually want to change the template itself (In an ideal world I'd like to create new templates), but at the minimum I'd like to change what the existing templates show.

For example, I have a number of Sound FX files and for those, I'd like the template to show the length of the clip. Similarly, I do not use Ratings, and have no use for them or Genres or track numbers, but I would like file size. For Images, I again never use Ratings, or tags (I use Adobe Lightroom to catalog my images as I have thousands) but I would like to see file type and modification date!

I accidentally changed my user folder shortcut name in Windows Explorer under Desktop.
It was changed when I tried to save a file to the desktop and accidentally create new folder while highlight the user folder shortcut. It might be a bug in the system, since I can’t duplicate the change again.

I have tried to rename it but nothing happens.
I deleted it but it came back after refresh (F5).

There is no property available since this is a special folder or shortcut like network shortcut in Windows Explorer.
I briefly went through the registry and search for ‘shell’ related value but find none to resolve the issue. Did the search on Google and this forum, I have found nothing related to this problem. Maybe I use the wrong word for the search. Does anybody know how to reverse the change or edit in the registry?

I would like to set some key folders to have icons that identify what is inside. So my Windows install folder would show a folder with the Windows logo in front. (I have the ICO for that.) But how do you do that? I found a folder that has such a specific icon, but I wasn't successful getting it to work. My example used an icon inside an EXE. My icon is a stand-alone ICO.

I was wondering if there was any way to save the view type of each folder. Example: I have my music folder in list view as its easy to scroll down through to choose, but I like my picture folder in the large icon view so I can see each picture better. The problem is that it seems to change the view of all the folders when I change one, and sometimes I open a folder and get a completely random view type that I never use, like extra large. I there a way to save a view to a specific folder so it wont change?

I have recently logged on to my computer to find that all of the shortcut Icons that overlap the program icons have changed, and also that all my folder icons have also changed as well as in the start menu. See attachments for images. To try and fix the Shortcut Icons i have installed FxVisor32 for 32-bit Vista. I tried to change all the icons back but recieved the following error message. which stopped me from changing it. Note i am running 32bit Vista home premium.Code:See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

In particular, when saving an email attachement, in this case a word file, the default location is the Documents folder. How could I change this in Vista so that whenever I do a Save As, it points to my, lets say, Temp folder instead?

i'm having some trouble with temporary files. I've read the guide on how to remove them, and that's great, works well. But my hardrive regularly gets clogged up with them. It's not uncommon for disc cleanup to find more than 100GB of temporary files to remove, and i have to do so about once every few weeks. Surely vista should cleanup temporary files automatically once it's done using them? Is there anything i can do, is something shot, or are we looking at a possible virus? (spyware terminator and clamAV are coming up clear)

I am fairly new to Vista but noticed that there are relatively few files in
the Temporary Internet Files folder compared to when I was running XP. I
subscribe to an internet based business messaging system (GoSolo) and used
to be able to drag the audio messages I had listened to from that temp
folder into an archive folder. But now they don't show up at all. I can
still "save" those messages from GoSolo but the process is a lot more
tedious. Are there IE settings that will allow them to be saved to disk and
show up in the Temporary Internet Files folder in Vista?

Using Windows98 when surfing, one did not have to save every picture (a sometimes laborious process), as they could be easily recovered from the Temporary Internet Files folder. One just searched the T'I'F' Folder for jpg's of a certain approximate size and date/time (and name), and then copy/pasted them into wherever. Also, saving individual pictures whan surfing was easier as a "save" icon appeared at the top left corner of the picture when the mouse pointer passed over it. How do I use these facilities in Vista?

I'm used to doing this in Windows XP where the folder location is "C:documents and settingsusernamelocal setting emp".On my Dell laptop which has Vista Home SP2, It *appears* that the location may be "C:usersusernamelocal settings??" but "local
settings" is a link rather than a subdirectory, and when I try to expand it I get "C:usersusernamelocal settings is not accesible. Access is denied".I'm logged in as administrator, and I have set folder options->view to "show hidden files and folders" and to not "hide protected operating system files".I get the same error when I try to expand "C:usersusernamestart menu". What do I need to do to be able to navigate these links and view and edit the folder contents?

The problem started when I decided to do a reboot after installing some programs. Since then whenever I log on it takes ages displaying the "welcome" message, then comes up with the dreaded "preparing your desktop" message. It then loads a "temporary user profile" and says that any changes made while logged on to this profile will be lost afterwards, and to check the event log or contact the network administrator.
I've read heaps about this problem happening to people with vista and windows 7 (I have vista home ed). It's supposed to be due to a corrupted profile, and so if you delete the profile in the "regedit" thing it's supposed to fix itself. Others have also suggested creating a new account and transferring everything. I have tried countless restarts, restoring the system, deleting the user profile (all my stuff is now fully backed up) and creating new accounts. None of it works - a temporary profile still loads from a newly created account, the same happens even in safe mode and from the built in administrator account. I'm at a total loss as to what to do!! I use my computer every day for work so you can hopefully imagine how frustrating this is!

Is there a way to rip just the audio from DVDs? I have a few live concerts on DVDs, and I would just like to listen to the audio of them all on my MP3 player. Transferring the whole contents of the DVDs would take up way too much storage on my MP3 player. Can Windows Media Player do this?

I recently upgraded to Vista 32bit service pack 2. I held off because of a problem I was having with service pack 1 (as I am about to explain), but I thought service pack 2 may have fixed the problem. However, it hasn't.

When I try to play a DVD through Windows Media Center it is just all fuzzy and static. You can see the picture moving, but it's so fuzzy and pixelated that it's impossible to actually make anything out. When I play through Media Player, the picture is just black. The sound is working fine in both programs.

I downloaded a program called VLC media player, and that plays the DVDs just fine, so does this mean that it is a problem with codecs? I'm not too sure, hence why I'm asking here on how to fix the problem. Obviously I could just keep using this new VLC player, but I prefer using Media Center.

I've set my autorun to autoplay DVDs in media center when inserted. When playing a video off my HD in the Media Center, then inserting a DVD, Vista refuses to see the DVD or any other movie I insert! When I quit Media Center, the DVD is suddenly recognized and everything works fine. I want to use this without a keyboard in my living room, so this solution isn't viable.
