View 4 RepliesI know this isn't a Hotmail group but maybe someone could tell me how to do this or where to ask. Every time I log into Hotmail, Windows Messenger starts to configure itself. I don't want it, but I can't stop it.I've Googled the problem and done all the things that people recommend, removed it from the start menu, (Run > msconfig > Start) several times, but still it starts every time I use Hotmail. It's driving me mad and I can't understand why Microsoft make it so hard to get rid of.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows Vista Home Basic Acer Aspire laptop that a client bought last week. When I installed Windows Live Messenger (downloaded from the ninemsn.com.au website), it started like it should but as soon as I tried to sign in, a "Windows Live Messenger has stopped working". When I chose the option to "Check Online for a solution", after a few seconds a notification that Windows DEP has stopped Windows Live Messenger and a help screen with information about how to configure DEP both appear. If I try to configure DEP so that Windows Live Messenger is allowed to run unaffected, DEP tells me that DEP cannot be disabled for Windows Live Messenger. So in short, DEP is stopping Windows Live Messenger from running and I have no idea how to fix it. The only other thing I noticed is that when I removed and reinstalled Messenger, it says that it is from an Unknown Publisher rather than from Microsoft as it usually does. Also, this machine is running the Acer eMpowered services including eData Security and I hear (but cannot confirm) that there could possibly be an issue between this and Messenger.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi'm posting in the right place as i think Windows Defender is classified as a System/Security feature. Windows Defender is blocking my Yahoo Messenger 8.1 during startup. I keep getting the Startup Program blocked notification whenever i boot up Vista although i have already disabled the Windows Defender services. I've tried to uninstall and reinstall YM after restarting numerous times and the problems still persists. FYI, I did a installation of the YM for Vista version and encountered no problems.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a brand new Dell laptop with Vista, and whenever I try to create a new family, it will freeze. It will also freeze/stop loading when
-I try and load some households
-I go downtown
And sometimes, I will completely load a household, but the screen (minus the control panel) will be black, and the music will be playing, but nothing will show up. I have already uninstalled and reinstalled many times, and this still happens. I played these games on my old computer and this never happened.
It's ticked in msconfig - Startup, but never loads Alert each time loaded manually and 'Turned-On' but never loads on reboot
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a VBS startup script that works fine with Win 2000, XP, 2003 but will not function properly on Vista. The startup script's purpose is to load the registry hive of the Default User (Default for Vista) profile, make a change and unload the hive. If I manually run the VBS script on Vista it works fine, however when I run it as a startup script it fails. Specifically the startup script is failing at loading the default user profile hive.
Does anyone know what has changed in Windows Vista that prevents the loading of a registry hive durring a startup script? I have tried putting in a delay, however this didn't correct the issue. I am using reg.exe to load the hive.
There are two ways to stop applications that start when you startup your computer at login. You can use the System Configuration Utility or the new Software Explorer in Windows Defender. Take a look at the two sections to get control over your startup applications and speed up your computer:
Disabling auto-start applications with the System Configuration Utility
Click on the Start Button and key in msconfig and hit Enter....
New computer. Vista Home Premium. FSX continually stops loading and have to restart the loading process. Six times to get it loaded, but all sytems not functioning. Loaded Accelerator crashed whole system had to do repair of FSX and start over again with continual stoppage. Don't know where to go from here. It worked fine with XP
View 9 Replies View RelatedFirst after doing an ordinary restart, my vista (ultimate) gets stuck for a LONG time at the loading screen and does not move, with the green loading bars. this happens every time i try to restart. i pop in my original vista disk and start the repair process...it says it found something wrong with my startup and it found what was wrong and that it was repaired. after this i get the message NTLDR, which is a whole nother problem. i ran the below to fix the NTLDR...
1. Put the Windows Vista installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
2. Press a key when you are prompted.
3. Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.
4. Click Repair your computer............
I am running Vista 64 and installed a program which apparently had a virus or I got it using IE8. I found an entry in the start up tab that was causing a problem. I went into the registry and deleted the item from the startup tab and I also disabled it in the startup tab. The startup tab still shows the item even though it is disabled and deleted from the registry. Why does it still show in MSCONFIG and how do I delete it from the start up entry
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have just puchased my first Windows Vista computer - an HP laptop. I have purchased at leat five laptops since 2000 so I am familiar with setup and
comfortable with installations etc. I have three questions here.
1. My last computer had Windows XP and an 80 gb hard drive with 70 gb full - After copying the data only (55 GB) to my new 250 gb hard drive I have only 107 GB remaining of the 222 GB C drive partition. I have not yet added many programs. That tells me that Vista must be using 50-60 GB or more of the drive. Can that be correct?
2. My new computer takes 5-6 minutes to start up. After two minutes I get the welcome screen. Then the monitor goes black for a full two minutes before continuing the startup process. Is this normal for Vista?
3. Occasionally the monitor goes dark for a few seconds and a window pops up saying the display driver has failed but is back. Is this normal?
I certainly gained no speed with this new computer. There are many things I like about Vista. Since I have no previous experience with owning it I am trying to sort out if this computer is a lemon that should be returned or if I should just put up with the downside.
The last couple of days I had a few times a startup error. It said something like Windows couldn't start normally. Run Startup Recovery (Recommended) Start Windows Normally. I did the Startup Recovery and then it worked again but the next day or so the same thing, otherwise my system runs fine.

I am tired of receiveing Windows Live Messenger invitations from men who read my profile, and even though I have stated that I am married, they send me invitations. I also keep getting messages that someone in a far off country wants my bank info to mail me money. I just want to get off this network.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen ever I first sign in, whenever I open an IM window or get an IM, whenever I do anything in Live Messenger it freezes for like 20 seconds and then I can use it. After it freezes it won't freeze again until I come back into it. So if I minimize it or open Firefox or IE and then come back, it freezes for like 20 seconds again.
Why is it doing this? I have no idea why... it just does. It did it even before my last format of my HD. I run Vista Ultimate SP1 with all available updates before SP2 including most optional updates except for Dreamscene, sound schemes, and extra games. Also, I have used Windows to delete games and printer services since I never play the games and do not use a printer. I run the latest version of Live Messenger and have NOT modded it or used any sort of cracks on it. I read on another forum that there's a crack for it that does something and it can cause this, just wanted to make it clear that this is the original version from the website.
when i try to log on MSN Live Messenger I keep getting Error. It just recently started when I updated with the latest Vista patches Sept 20th i believe was when i did it last.. Anyways... as well as when I try to install a program this one is World of Warcraft I get this error:
This Application has encountered a critical error: Error 132 (0x85100084) Program: C:UsersxxxAppdataLocalTemplizzard Exception: 0xC00000094 (INT_DIVIDE_BY_ZERO) at 001B:10003E3B
I was able to uninstall the updates but the problems are still occuring. I currently use 2 Anti-Virus programs, Kaspersky, and AVG both legit copies, and they come out clean. Ive also been using Registry Mechanic. As Well when I tried to do a system restore... it was saying i have never done one which I found really odd... especially since ive had this PC for 1-2yrs now.
