Home Premium Not Connect To Wireless Non-broadcast SSID

Mar 23, 2008

The wireless card is a Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN. I've successfully connected to many open access points that broadcast their SSID, and have had no problem tracking down and identifying access points in range of my laptop, no matter what kind of security they use. (WEP, WAP, etc)My current problem involves attempting to connect to a wireless AP that is NOT broadcasting an SSID and uses WEP 128 bit encryption. For reference, I have used a Windows XP machine and a laptop running Vista Business Edition, both of which can connect to the AP, which resides 6 ft away. On the Vista Home Premium laptop however, I get limited or no connectivity to the network. For additional security, the AP has a MAC filter in place and I have confirmed that my MAC is in the filter. Checking the packet transmission information on the status window, it is clear that the laptop is broadcasting packets without any issues, but none are being received. Logging into the AP, it shows no signs that my laptop has attempted to connect.

I've installed the latest drivers available, and at this point am at a complete loss as to why my laptop can seemingly connect to any AP but this one. Especially since I can connect with other Vista versions, and with Windows XP...........................

Home Premium 64 Sp1: It Cannot Connect To The Net

Mar 14, 2009

a friend brought over his vista machine (home premium 64 sp1) and it cannot connect to the net. not through ie7 (for him preferred), firefox, or this other one he has called wyzo. there also seem to be multiple copies of ie on the box (ie and an ie 64).i started researching the problem on the 'net, and found, well, all kinds of info. a little background...i have a wrt54g, a compaq desktop/xp sp2, powerbook g4 osx10.4, old ass compaq latop running fedora9, acer aspire one xp hsdpa, and a ps2, and xbox through a hub to a network bridge. all wirelessly connected. to slow ass at&t. and it all works and it's working as i post this. (itunes radio alternative/live105) so i know its not my network.so with all the info thats readily (abeit you have to sift) available, i tried a few things. the wireless portion of the laptop seems to be working. hardware wise it lights up and switches. it connected to my network fine. start ie7 and nothing. i installed firefox. nothing. "cannot find page" and all that. same with that wyzo. i even plugged it in physically to the router with some cat5. i let it try to diagnose itself and it of course cant find the problem.so i dig into google and come up with the dhcp flag thing. checked it, its already set at 1. but its called DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag and thats for both devices. i also found info about an update that is messing people up. but the only MS updates on the machine are MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB941833 and KB954430). nothing is checked in lan settings for automatic ip configuring.this is so odd to me.

Home Premium Canntom Connect To ADSL Internet

Mar 23, 2008

Cannot connect Vista H.P. to ADSL internet (NETIA, if someone knows what I'm talking about). The same connection and settings work for XP I have on another computer. They share the same modem, I just connect it to Vista computer or XP. Vista says it's an error 851. When I try to set up a Phone connection (like it works on XP), the only modem that's shown is an internal modem, not the ADSL one.

Home Premium Network: (wireless Disabled)

Apr 17, 2010

my wireless internet was working perfectly other than maybe signal problems, one afternoon there were some updates needing to take place by restarting the computer so I restarted. Next thing I know I login to the computer and the little light at the bottom of my keyboard is red (wireless disabled) but it was in enable position so I flipped it to disable and back again and nothing. Well after looking around I couldnt find a way to enable it and just left it be. Well I turned it on two days ago and it was working so I thought "Hey its fine now" but then it wasnt working the next turn on. I went to device manager and the WLAN or Wireless adapter wasnt there, and when the light is blue it is there. I have tried full system recovery and restore to manufactor settings.

Couldn't Upgrade Windows Vista Home Premium, Couldn't Connect To The Internet

May 5, 2009

I had windows XP pro and i bought windows vista home premium upgrade, when i went to install it it said that i couldn't upgrade it. So i followed directions on how to do a custom clean install, where you install vista without typing in the product key and without getting updates then you pick what OS you have and do the custom installation, then you install again (2nd time) and choose upgrade instead of custom and go through the process again.

The problem is after installing it the first time, I couldn't connect to the internet, so I couldn't install it a second time. I have an ASUS PQ5 PRo motherboard and when i start up there is this thing called express gate, in express gate I can use the internet but not when i enter Vista. When I put in the PQ5 Pro DVD vista says it can't open it. Also my XP PRO may have been 64bit, and now I am on Vista32 bit and the disck wont work.

I think the internet is a driver problem, if i go to the asus website on a diff computer and get the ASUS drivers put them on a USB and then open them on vista should this work? WHat drivers do I need? Just the LAN one? Also if the Asus DVD wouldnt start up will that mean that I wont be able to open the drivers on the flash drive too?

Can't Connect To Wireless

Mar 27, 2008

Is there something I'm missing with Vista and wireless, I have to different wireless networks and I now have a Vista laptop in each network that I can't connect to. All firmware/drivers is up to date on the laptop and the routers and I still can't get them to connect but I have no problem with the XP. Side note, I have had both laptops connected and surfing the Web and having access to network shares and what not but they have both since been dropped. I'd be happy to just focus on one of them.

Can't Connect Wireless

Mar 13, 2009

u3yy9oJHA.5468@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl> Brand new Toshiba Satellite Pro A300 laptop. Wireless switch at front is on and LED lit but cannot connect wirelessly to 3Com modem/router. Hard wiring via ethernet cable it works but very slow in comparison to XP PC's on same router. Fn + F8 indicates both Wi-fi and Bluetooth are on.Device Manager indicates a problem with Other Devices/Network Controller saying there's no drivers. Network troubleshooting tells me there's no wireless adapter.Updating drivers from Device Manager does nothing. Downloaded Vista drivers from Toshiba gives the same result. Very tempted to put it back in the box and send it back for refund, not another Toshiba, but thought I'd give the groups a try first.

Can Not Connect Wireless Access

May 16, 2008

I bought an HP Pavilion tx2110us (with Windows Vista) and been to hotels and home and so it just does not connect to any wireless connection (my old laptop with XP connects no problem!). After spending 4 hours with 3 HP assistants on the phone and chatting online with them, and talking to my personal computer technician, I found that the wireless connection does not obtain the IP address and DNS server address "automatically". I can't do this manually for every time I arrive in a hotel, or anywhere I go. I bought this computer especially to save time when I travel so I need to make this thing "Obtain an IP and DNS adress automatically" for any wireless connection that it finds.

Wireless Router Does B/g Connect

Apr 9, 2008

here is the setup, I have a Laptop with a wired 10/100/100 jack and a wireless card built in A/B/G. I have a wireless router at home that does B/G, I connect to it at G. The wireless router also has 5 10/100 ports on the back. From the wireless router I go into a cable modem, pretty standard setup so far, here is where gets fun. I have the option of "bundling" my download speeds and upload speeds with the installation of a 2nd cable modem. What I am unsure opf is how exactle this setup would work. Going to attach a pic and see what you all have in the way of advice: Basically, the 2 connections from the cable modems are 15down and 2up each, my cable company will allow me to combine the connections (they will set it up on their end) so I have 30down 4up, what I dont know is how top do it on MY end. I am attaching a word doc with a drawing to explain better. I am running Vista64 Ultimate w/sp1

Wireless Network, Can't Connect Router

I have a BIG problem with my wireless network. I have two PC, one with vista ultimate X64 sp1 and another with both the same vista version plus XP sp3 X86 installed. my wireless network is based on ASUS, one router (with vista support) and another WIFI adapter installed on my second PC and as you might guess my main PC is connected to the router via the standard cable. I using WPA2 with a 63 ASCII PSK and it just works well with my XP sp3 but simply when I log in to vista it can't connect to my router, Vista can find my WIFI singal and say that it has a Good-Excellent signal. I downloaded and installed the x64 version of driver for my WIFI Adapter from ASUS website and it seems it should work. I tried everything. checking password...make it shorter reading articles about netWORKING.

Won't Connect To Linksys Wireless-g Router

Dec 26, 2008

My family and i just got a new dell laptop with vista on it, but it will not connect to our home internet connection. We use a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router, Model WRT54G. I've tried various guides and searched high and low for an answer. When I try to connect to the network Linksys, It says
'Windows cannot connect to Linksys'.
Then, it says
"Make sure your computer is in range of "linksys" and that the network settings match the wireless router or access point settings"
All our other computers work fine with it, A laptop running XP, Our Home computer running XP, and even an iphone.
I'm not sure what that diagnostic is supposed to mean and I'm not familiar with vista at all.

Not Automatically Connect To Wireless Network

Had an XP machine with wireless before and this was never a problem. Have a Vista x32 connected with Ethernet cable that has no problem getting on network automatically either. Router is WRT54GS (I know it's old), but my computer is not totally incompatible if I get a good connection and good speed on the network.
