I've been browsing the internet for hours, eventhough it seems to be a somewhat reoccuring issue I couldn't find the solution yet, so I hope my own thread will work better. I've recently purchased a new notebook " HP dv6-1199eg ", specs :
Proc:
AMD Turion™ X2 Dual-Core Mobile Prozessor RM-75

i'm a huge call of duty fan. but whenever i install Call of Duty 1 or it's expansion pack it shows no problem. but when I start it up, there is no text
E.g : new game, multiplayer, options, it's not there. I never had problems with it on this pc when it still had XP. tried reinstalling vista, same problem. can't go back to XP, because my internet needs to be reconfigured for it

Attached are the debug logs. The crashes started happening on the Thursday morning of Oct. 22. The first one happened at around 3 AM. The second one, on the 23rd, happened at around 2 AM. The 3rd one, on the 24th, happened at around 2 AM as well. The 4th one was less than a hour later than the 3rd one, when I was doing something with the kernel memory dump file. Perhaps I was opening it. The 3rd and 4th ones were the ones that I actually saw happening. The 3rd one happened when I was sitting there, but not doing anything to the computer at the moment. The 4th one happened when the computer was not being responsive when I was trying to view the kernel dump file, or when I was trying to close the Notepad2 that I was using to view the kernel dump file..........

I am currently running Vista Home Premium 32bit (OEM, sadly) and would like your advice. I am planning on building a new PC over the summer (as I can finally work for decent wages!) and I want to make it a beast. I'm not going to go completely crazy; I'll have a budget of around €1,500 to €2,000. For the most part, I have a good idea of what I'll be getting (X38 Intel mobo, E8xxx Core2 or Quad, R700 ATi or 9xxx nVidia etc) but when it comes to RAM I'm a bit stuck. Should I get 4GBs and a cheaper 32bit version of Vista or go for the 64bit? I know 64bit can theoreticly handle alot more RAM than 32bit, but with 4GB is it worth spending the extra cash on 64bit, or will 32bit handle it just fine? (And by "handle it" I mean utilise it fully. I dont want to find only 3GBs out of 4GB are actually being used...) Aslo, for the 64bit users out there: how is driver support? Are you encountering many problems with games/drivers/hardware?

I don't know why but for some reason within the last week or so my xbox360 has stopped connecting to my hp laptop (vista home premium 32bit). I have a 2wire 1800hg gateway, with both the laptop and xbox connected wirelessly (using Intel link 5100/official microsoft wireless connector respectively).
As I say before a few days ago I could access my shared media via my xbox dashboard, as well as via the media center extender. However now it's not working. The 2wire has it's own firewall but I have opened the laptops connections up completely today (although this wasn't an issue a week or two ago?). And I've opened up many ports in windows firewall too.
When I look at the full map in the network and sharing connections window it does indeed show the xbox and laptop connecting to the router, so it is seeing it. However no connection can be made in either direction (i.e. the xbox cannot find any pc's and the pc's media center can't find the mc extender). I've tried numerous things so far, opening ports etc.. but nothing has worked, so this is my last resort!

a friend brought over his vista machine (home premium 64 sp1) and it cannot connect to the net. not through ie7 (for him preferred), firefox, or this other one he has called wyzo. there also seem to be multiple copies of ie on the box (ie and an ie 64).i started researching the problem on the 'net, and found, well, all kinds of info. a little background...i have a wrt54g, a compaq desktop/xp sp2, powerbook g4 osx10.4, old ass compaq latop running fedora9, acer aspire one xp hsdpa, and a ps2, and xbox through a hub to a network bridge. all wirelessly connected. to slow ass at&t. and it all works and it's working as i post this. (itunes radio alternative/live105) so i know its not my network.so with all the info thats readily (abeit you have to sift) available, i tried a few things. the wireless portion of the laptop seems to be working. hardware wise it lights up and switches. it connected to my network fine. start ie7 and nothing. i installed firefox. nothing. "cannot find page" and all that. same with that wyzo. i even plugged it in physically to the router with some cat5. i let it try to diagnose itself and it of course cant find the problem.so i dig into google and come up with the dhcp flag thing. checked it, its already set at 1. but its called DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag and thats for both devices. i also found info about an update that is messing people up. but the only MS updates on the machine are MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB941833 and KB954430). nothing is checked in lan settings for automatic ip configuring.this is so odd to me.

Cannot connect Vista H.P. to ADSL internet (NETIA, if someone knows what I'm talking about). The same connection and settings work for XP I have on another computer. They share the same modem, I just connect it to Vista computer or XP. Vista says it's an error 851. When I try to set up a Phone connection (like it works on XP), the only modem that's shown is an internal modem, not the ADSL one.

The wireless card is a Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN. I've successfully connected to many open access points that broadcast their SSID, and have had no problem tracking down and identifying access points in range of my laptop, no matter what kind of security they use. (WEP, WAP, etc)My current problem involves attempting to connect to a wireless AP that is NOT broadcasting an SSID and uses WEP 128 bit encryption. For reference, I have used a Windows XP machine and a laptop running Vista Business Edition, both of which can connect to the AP, which resides 6 ft away. On the Vista Home Premium laptop however, I get limited or no connectivity to the network. For additional security, the AP has a MAC filter in place and I have confirmed that my MAC is in the filter. Checking the packet transmission information on the status window, it is clear that the laptop is broadcasting packets without any issues, but none are being received. Logging into the AP, it shows no signs that my laptop has attempted to connect.
I've installed the latest drivers available, and at this point am at a complete loss as to why my laptop can seemingly connect to any AP but this one. Especially since I can connect with other Vista versions, and with Windows XP...........................

I bought an Laptop with Vista Home Premium 32bit. If I install a FULL version of Windows 7 on this Laptop, can I use the Vista Home Premium 32bit key from the laptop on one of my other desktops? If so, would I talk to Microsoft or the manufacturer to get a disk without all the manufacturer "Bonus" software?

I had windows XP pro and i bought windows vista home premium upgrade, when i went to install it it said that i couldn't upgrade it. So i followed directions on how to do a custom clean install, where you install vista without typing in the product key and without getting updates then you pick what OS you have and do the custom installation, then you install again (2nd time) and choose upgrade instead of custom and go through the process again.
The problem is after installing it the first time, I couldn't connect to the internet, so I couldn't install it a second time. I have an ASUS PQ5 PRo motherboard and when i start up there is this thing called express gate, in express gate I can use the internet but not when i enter Vista. When I put in the PQ5 Pro DVD vista says it can't open it. Also my XP PRO may have been 64bit, and now I am on Vista32 bit and the disck wont work.
I think the internet is a driver problem, if i go to the asus website on a diff computer and get the ASUS drivers put them on a USB and then open them on vista should this work? WHat drivers do I need? Just the LAN one? Also if the Asus DVD wouldnt start up will that mean that I wont be able to open the drivers on the flash drive too?

I suddenly notice a lot of references to SP1 for Vista. I have stopped updates on my Vista Home Premium, after it killed my WinMail. I uninstalled upto KB 933928, and disabled updates. It is working fine, but I found AVG offering me AVG 8.0, which refused to install saying my Vista is not updated ( after downloading 80MB twice !! !&*()^%$$). How do I get to SP1? Just install all updates from MS? Will my WinMail survive? Or will I be forced to shift to XP Outlook? There is a lot of flak meant for Vista, but my system is very stable ( touch wood and everything else)
Request MVP advice.

No sound issue was solved by my finally uninstalling the driver (convenant) and reinstalling an older one. The problem did start after making alot of updates, one of which was for the Convexant driver. Jan 6 or later so I used one from Dec. Voila!
Haven't seen anyone else using this driver (the other two are Bluetooths) so wonder if it sucks and if I should be using somethng else for this system??

I am facing problems with the registry of the OS. When I install new software, I get some unusual error messages pointing to registry. When I try to uninstall old software, it leaves traces of the software even on the Start up Menu.
Can I do a format of the entire hard disk, reinstall Vista Home Premium (32 bit) again ?? Will it consider my old license or do I need to purchase an additional license ?
If I do a clean installation of the entire OS, what will be the case for Microsoft Office Student Edition 2003 ? Will it consume additional license if I clean install it?

When I put the 64 bit install disk in, it goes through the usual install process. I entered the product key from my 32 bit box, and continued. The install then fails as it says it cannot find an authorised disk to install on. My 32 bit Vista is fully activated, so I am not sure how to get around this.

Installed Free AVG 8 here today on two systems - Vista Home Premium SP1 and XP SP3 with IE7.
On the Vista machine, the installation of AVG 8 broke IE7 in opening a second window - it just hung until the "not responding" message appeared.I tried installing AVG without the surfsearch function, and without the Linkscanner module - still couldn't open a second window in IE. Uninstalling of AVG 8 cured the problem.
The installation on XP SP3 with IE7 had no effect at all. IE7 behaved perfectly normally.
Anyone seen this, and is there a fix?
(The reason I went for AVG is that it picked up a virus on my XP machine

When I purchased Vista Home Premium Upgrade a year ago, I upgraded from XP and did a "clean install" that allowed me to wipe my C drive and start from scratch. I did a 2nd clean install a week ago to start over again after experiencing slow response and wanting to start fresh. I'm now getting an activation notice and when I enter the code, I'm told this version cannot be used for a clean install and that I have to purchase another license. Who can I contact to resolve this issue as I paid for the Vista upgrade and the 1st install a year ago went just fine with no activiation issues?

The other day I used the format option to install Vista. I then did an upgrade and entered my key code but I believe the software hasn't been activated even though I chose activate automatically. When I try to activate it it gives me an error saying the code is for upgrade (which I did).Is there a way I can find out if it has been activated? If not where do I find other options to activate it.

I upgraded from Vista Home Premium to Ultimate using our Microsoft Actiona Pack License that says you must have a previous version to use it. It required that I do a FULL install instead of an Upgrade. Seemed to go perfectly, everything works, etc. Problem is that now I have both Vista Home Premium and Vista Ultimate on my C: Drive and almost no space left. How do I rid myself of Vista Home Premium on this computer now? It's taking up around 52 Gig of space.

I have a laptop with the Vista Home Premium 32 bit version installed. I am
thinking of upgrading my desktop from Windows 2000 to the same platform, since I would prefer to keep these two computers as look-alikes. Some desktops (e.g., Dell) are now sold with the 64 bit version. I am told that the 32-bit version will read up to only 3 GB of RAM, whereas the 64-bit version will read up to 4 GB (?).
If I were to install the 64-bit version on my desktop, are there other complications that I might run into when I attempt to run programs/exchange data on both systems? I also run some DOS programs from an earlier century;

I've a weird problem with my IE8. Any page I browse to shows a 'Done, with errors on Page' at the status bar and most other sites such as hotmail turn up blank, with the 'Done' at the status bar and a warning sign next to it.
Its driving me crazy, and I cannot spot anything in Event Viewer System/Application logs that corresponds to this occurrence. Is this a virus that has taken over ...? Should I try restoring the system to any restore point?
