I'm unsure about flashing my BIOS. My MoBo is Abit AB9 Quad GT. I have downloade the latest version, and it came with the AWDFLSH utility. My confusion lies in whether or not I should create a partition and copy the files to it, and boot from there (if that is even possible), or if I can just run the utility program from my desktop.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I click on Updater.exe it tells me that an unidentified program wants access to my computer. Since it's unidentified, I don't know if I want it or not, so I've always denied it. But to have this happen about every 20 minutes if very annoying.
How can I find out what the program is and/or to stop the updater from flashing so

For about a month now, after I've been sitting here a while, the screen goes black. For the next two or three minutes the screen will flash on for a millisecond, and gradually the frequency will lengthen, and then up to 12 minutes later back to normal. (HP Pavillion bought Nov 07, Vista Home Premium, AgNeovo F=17.)
Last week I thought it might need a new screen driver, so I got one, and for two days no flashes. My other big problem is everything seems to be on a hair-trigger. I'll want to click on whatever, and a box of choices or warning pops up, and I have to hit Escape to get rid of it...........
Sometimes when I install drivers I get the message that my BIOS is out of date (including updates from AMD) if I go to the Phoenix site it says go to the motherboard manufacturer or run Biosagent if you use this you pay for the update but you do get this info so is it worth e-mail gateway support, using the boisagent or just leave well alone.

I sometimes get my main monitor blurry (I have 2). It looks like the resolution decreased and it even has these small horizontal lines flashing you can notice when you look real close to it. It resembles ?static?. To fix it, I can go to the nVidia control panel and switch the monitor configuration and then hit ?No? when it asks me if I want to keep the setting But then it will come back again later at random it seems.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI use Vista Ultimate x64, which works fine, just fine, except when gaming.Whenever I fire up a game, the arrow/pointer/marker flashes constantly slightly down and to the right of the center of the screen. Very annoying. Or, let me be precise, Bioshock works fine(except you need dualcore like Crysis for the sound to be smooth, I have a 4200+ lying around), it's was only in Farcry2 the marker appeared, and I actually managed to get rid of it once, by moving it out of view before starting the game - didn't work again. And now the pointer appears in Hitman Blood Money as well, same place. These are the only games I've tried in VUx64 so far - might it be the Crossfire?
View 4 Replies View RelatedCPU usage is normal, fluctuates between 0 and 25. The flash is super distracting. I cant figure this one out for the life of me. I don't have any viruses or rogue processes running that I can see. It does not occur in safe mode but still does even when I use game booster (IOBIT program that safely stops many running processes to use cpu power for game being played).
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've done a search for this but it's kind of a hard one to put in to keywords without getting tonnes of results with radically different problems. I bought a new computer a few months ago and bought Vista Ultimate OEM but I still needed XP for work so I just put my old XP harddrive in, played around with installing some drivers and everything worked swell. I had some free time on the weekend though and decided I may as well install Vista now. I chucked the DVD in and booted from it, then began the installation. I've got 3 hard drives, one of them is XP, one is for the bulk of my files and finally one that I cleared everything off of, ready to be formatted and have Vista put on. The installation seems to have gone fine, it unpacked all the files and installed everything. It rebooted, assumedly at the end (I didn't hang around to watch it install for half an hour) and booted in to XP. Cool, so I rebooted again, went to the boot menu and selected the Vista hard drive and then nothing happens. I get a black screen with a white blinking "_" cursor. I went back in to XP and looked on the Vista harddrive and it appeared to have the entire file structure on it. So is there any advice you can give? I'm not quite sure what else to try other than do a completely fresh install.

We have two Sony Vaio laptops in my house and this has happened with both of them. When I type the little flashing line moves to random places and the typing continues from there. Not only that, sometimes when I type passages get highlighted or deleted, or the page simply changes for no reason. Why did this happen and how can i fix it? D:

My brother has just built a computer and can't get it working. The problem is that when he starts it he gets to the screen where he can choose to enter BIOS. 9/10 times he can't do anything from there but 1/10 times he can press delete and then it says "loading bios" but it freezes there (he waited 30 mins nothing happened). Does anyone know what the problem mihht be?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been messing around in my BIOS. Installing some faster RAM and trying a slight overclock (2.4 t0 2.7Ghz on a Q6600) and seem to have caused myself several problems. Firstly I tried to push it a bit further on the FSB- from 1200 to 1300-the system wouldn't boot and wouldn't let me into the BIOS. I eventually got round this by removing the mobo battery. I was able to get back into the BIOS and revert to my original oc. However when I booted I got a re register Windows this is not a genuine version notice. I had to 'phone microsoft and get a new activation ID. I'm now back in windows (Vista HP 64 bit) but seem to have a few left over issues. My clock was set back to 2006 and that meant I couldn't activate Gmail etc. I went back into the BIOS and reset the date but could not change the day. So it's 3.19PM on Monday the 22nd of September, 2008. I've tried everything I can think of but cannot find a way to make it Friday, which it is.
Also I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2009. This keeps reporting that my computer is at risk and I need to update. I've updated over a dozen times but it doesn't seem to change and is still telling me it needs to update. These are ther first problems I have noticed. I hope I don't find more. Does anyone have any advice as to how to get my day and date correct and how to convince Kaspersky it's up to date?
I can't get the computer to boot from the disk. I can't get into my BIOS or anything because for some reason my keyboard won't work until the login screen. What are some other methods for reinstalling that don't require a keyboard, or if someone can give me some hints on how to fix this keyboard problem. I've tried 4 different keyboards and none of them do anything. I've tried 3 usb ones and 1 prongy one. The prongy one won't even work so I guess that's out of the question. What are my options? I just want to clean everything. I don't care how.....
View 4 Replies View RelatedHi i have just bought a new laptop as i fried the MoBo in my last one which i bought in the early days of Vista, not realising what system requirements were for Vista i landed up with a very under resourced in the hardware dept. laptop and i am shure my constant tinkering with the hardware caused the death of it.
Which brings me to my query (now that i am overly paranoid about tinkering with hardware) i have been researching and have found there is very mixed opinion on applying Bios updates and was wondering what people here thoughts. I have two pending Bios updates 1st addresses better support for SP2 and the 2nd improves system performance & LCD panel brightness.
and if i apply these updates do i need to do both updates or just apply the current one, any opinions would be greatfully received.
im new to the concept of overclocking, i dont really want to atempt it but i do have a question. Is it possible to overclock CPU without using BIOS? When i go inside my CMOS setup i cant go into CPU settings.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI thought I would try Ubuntu on my computer. I have a Microsoft Wireless keyboard and mouse. They both worked while setting up dual boot. Once completed, Ubuntu loaded, however I didn't have a keyboard and mouse to select the operating system. They worked well once in Ubuntu. I changed the boot OS default to Vista 64 and I have access to Vista again.
The problem is that no keyboard I try allows me access to the bios. I've tried unplugging the drives as well, still with no luck. I want to repair Vista (MBR)using the disk, however can't change the boot order in the bios. Is there a way to repair MBR from within Vista?
My motherboard is causing my vista to be very unstable. Review say I should flash down to an earlier bios. How do I go about doing this?

View 5 Replies View RelatedMB Asus P5N-T Deluxe, Just upgraded from Core 2 Duo to Core 2 Quad. Cannot enter BIOS. At boot the message "new CPU fitted to get best results update your BIOS". When pressing DEL it says entering BIOS but doesn't. Tried using the Installation disc but get a blue screen saying windows shut 'cos new H/w or S/W fitted. How can I update the BIOS if it can't be got? Will it mean replacing the CPU - downloading and installing the updated BIOS then refitting the Core 2 Quad?
View 8 Replies View Relatedi'm using A GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS3R (rev. 1.0) MOTHERBOARD WITH THE Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 / 3.00 GHz processor. i set the vcore in the bios and bootup the system and run cpu-z version 1.46. the bios is set to 1.20 and CPU-Z reads it as 1.16. what reading should i trust? also this board seems to be crap for overclocking. my other board with the e8400 chip will do 4+ ghz. this one i can't get over 3.6ghz and so far thats not stable. my temps are 44c and loaded 56c.

I have an abit NF-M2S with a AMD 64 X2 4400 running wirh corsair 2x 1gb xms2 ddr2-800 cas mem. Like I said not sure about the bios settings but I am looking for proper performance. Also have an Hauppauge HVR-1600, I can set up the usual HD and boot process stuff, but the other timing and such got me lost.

I got a new 2GB RAM and pulled upgraded the machine to 4GB by pulling out the 1GB. After the installation, the BIOS shows 4GB RAM, but Windows shows only 3GB. In computer properties, it shows 3062MB. In system information, it shows

Available Physical Memory - 1.32 GB
Total Virtual Memory - 6.16 GB

Why is it not detecting the 4GB Memory though it shows up in BIOS. Do I need to upgrade anything or change any settings?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Vista Ulimate 64-bit and everytime that I reboot I get a black screen before the Microsoft Windows scrolling bar.
This is the sequence.
- I reboot.
- I get my bios information screen.
- I get the white, blinking line in the upper left corner of the screen.
- Then the screen goes black with no hard drive activity.
I then can perform a Complete PC restore from my second partition on the same SATA Hard Drive and I will then be able to boot into Vista with no problem.....until I reboot, then I get the Black screen again. It is a vicious cycle.
I have tried to remove video cards (2 x 8800 GTS), memory (4 GB), sound cards (X-Fi Music), load the default bios settings....nothing works. Only a Complete PC Restore cures it, but only until I need to reboot the PC.
I forget the administraive password to my laptop HP Presario C700. I cannot acess to the Bios settings due to lack of Administrative password.
