I'm having a problem I can't find in the forums. I'm using Vista Home Premium x64 and have lost the column header bars in Explorer. I've tried changing the template for the folder, but nothing works. This is what is looks like... This is the "all items" template, but they all look like this.

Today I did a full back up of my system.TO my knowledge it was working just fine before the backup. afterwards however I had a missing .dll and windows explorer freezes if I attempt to search either of my hard drives(I type one charachter). so I open task manager, check it out can't find a damn thing so I end the task and get this:

I just got a new laptop with Vista Home Premium. In setting up my Windows Mail I noticed that there is no BCC in the header, and for the life of me I can't find out how to add it. I've tried Help, but it's no help at all where BCC is concerned.

I've got Vista Ultimate 32bit on a quad-core 4G machine.
This just recently happened so I'm assuming something got clobbered.
When I go into my computer I cannot see my drive letters, if I type in the drive letter I can then get to that drive:mad: this is very frustrating, I hate having to type in the letter of the drive that I wish to use
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am moving a lot of my games out of the Program Files folder into C:Games so that UAC doesn't ask permission to play most of my games anymore. The problem is that, after I move the game folder, even though the game plays perfectly, it disappears from the Game Explorer and I can't seem to get it added back. The specific game i'm trying with is Lord of the Rings Online. (I moved World of Warcraft and it fixed itself instantly). Everquest 1 also disappeared and no matter what I do I can't seem to get it back in the game explorer other than dragging in the exectuable. Is there a way to get the official Game Explorer icon back for Lord of the Rings Online with the full game rating and ESRB rating and all after moving the folder?

When I highlight a message, right-click, click on PROPERTIES, then click on MESSAGE SOURCE, on some posts I see the originator's IP address while others do not show the IP address. It appears that this is NOT the IP address of the originating computer, but, of the originating ISP -- right? For example, when I trace the IP address shown in my posts, it shows the location of my ISP, which is miles away from me. Is there any way to configure Windows Mail so the IP address is not shown on outgoing posts?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI wasn't sure whether to post this under the Vista section, in the server section, or in IE7 because I'm not sure where the problem resides. We are hosting a sharepoint website on a server 2003 computer running IIS 6. I set up host headers in IIS and Access Mappings in WSS, and everything works perfectly for workstations with XP Pro.
The workstations that are running Windows Vista Business cannot connect to the site via the host header name. All clients are running IE7, and are up to date. The IP address of the server is being resolved just fine when using the host header value.
I am thinking of updating to Vista from Windows XP, and would like to know if Vista Mail filtering provided any improvement on Outlook Express. In particular can filtering be done on news header fields like

I recently did a factory restore on my computer and now everytime i put it in sleep mode, it wakes up after a few seconds without me touching it and I want to prevent it from waking up without my command. Also when I view videos in full screen on the internet, I have these two black bars that appear on the left and right of the screen, how can I get that off?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am installing a new Gigabyte mobo (MA78GM-US2H) in an HP Media Center Case. The pin layout between the case & mobo is nearly the same except that the HD LED and the Power LED are reversed on the new mobo. The power switch pins are correct. The case does not have reset capability. Does it matter that the two LED pin connectors are reversed or should I attempt to change the wires coming from the case?
View 4 Replies View RelatedJust within the past week I put in a new psu and replaced my old graphics card with a gtx 260. I played assassins creed which came with the card, and i cant remember having any problems with it and it may have crashed once but i cant entirely remember.
I decided this game is awesome until i got to the cave area i encountered these odd black bars covering large portions of my screen, I guess it had to do with lighting filters or something but when i looked at a certain area it just lost picture in some areas. I think that is unrelated to my actual problem though, i got over it and it wasnt a huge deal I could just turn around and back around and they were gone.........
First after doing an ordinary restart, my vista (ultimate) gets stuck for a LONG time at the loading screen and does not move, with the green loading bars. this happens every time i try to restart. i pop in my original vista disk and start the repair process...it says it found something wrong with my startup and it found what was wrong and that it was repaired. after this i get the message NTLDR, which is a whole nother problem. i ran the below to fix the NTLDR...
1. Put the Windows Vista installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
2. Press a key when you are prompted.
3. Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.
4. Click Repair your computer............
I'm running Vista Ultimate x64. I had 4GB of memory installed and just upgraded to 8GB. When I started the computer with the new memory sticks, I got this message:
"The file is possibly corrupt. The file header checksum does not match the computed checksum." I booted from the Vista DVD and tried the Startup Repair but it says it did not detect any problems so it won't repair anything. What can I do?

I need to change the display filename colors in Vista Windows Explorer similar to the MAC O/S Feature. This question does NOT deal with Encrypted Files or Compressed Files. I simply want to change the display names of the files to colors such as BLUE, GREY, etc., just like I can do on the MAC O/S for the past 5 years.
I do NOT want to use any third party software file managers. There must be a way to do it in Windows since APPLE has been doing it for 60 months now. I can't believe that Windows STILL Cannot perform this simple task! If you have a working solution using Windows Explorer please email me and let me know.
I wasn't quite sure if IE8 was the culprit, but it became apparent once I removed it. Internet Explorer 8 interferes with the functionality in Windows Explorer for Vista. Say for example: With IE8 installed, open up "Computer". Close it, then open it again. It should be instantaneous. But its not. A window will take over to 10 seconds to show its initial contents. Once its open though, its very fast because the instance is already running. But once it closes it will take another 10 seconds to open again. Internet Explorer 8 itself opens up very slowly even after the first opening. Can any Vista users verify this?
1. Install IE8
2. Go: Start > click Computer
3. Close that Window.
4. Repeat step 2.
Is it an instantaneous opening or does the window take more than 5 seconds to populate? Repeat those steps with opening Internet Explorer. Is it the same? If so, welcome to the club. Does Microsoft have any way to report this bug to developers?
When I open windows explorer in either XP or Vista it opens the "My Document" folder as the default. However I only want "My Computer" to be expanded and everything else left unexpanded.

Also, same thing with Internet Explorer...I'm getting real sick of Vista's shoddiness..
By now it should be obvious that, under the Vista operating system, I have Home Premium, there is a severe overall, general "has stopped working" problem.
Thus far I've experienced:

"Sherlock Holmes Nemesis (Adventure Company) has stopped working"
"Outlook has stopped working"
"Acid 4.0 (Sony) has stopped working"

Is it not obvious by now that Vista has a problem, maybe a compatability problem, with everything from Internet Explorer and Microsoft Word to third party programs which cause programs, as I mentioned, even programs made by Microsoft, to "stop working"? Is there no an overall "stopped working" patch or something that Microsoft has released by now?...............
I have been having a problem with what I think is windows updates(vista Bisness 32 bit os). I have a DVDRW/CDRW drive and it goes missing after I update my laptop. Now I have done a full system restore(back to factory sets). To fix the problem, only to have it comeback at me after I update. Now I have found that the driver is showing (Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39) in the general tab) Now when I look in the driver tab under driver details. I see 2 drivers showing for the same thing, one from microsoft and one from sonic.
I have uninstalled the DVDRW/CDRW and restarted the laptop, only to see that the conflict is still there. There is no way for me to roll back the driver as that button is greyed out. I have checked windows updates and I don't see anything in there that is a driver.
However I have found 2 UPDATES FOR WINDOWS VISTA(KB957388) AND (KB952709) that say they are needed to resolve compatability issues. Questions (1) Does either of these have to do with my problem? and if so, (2) How do I deal with these issues?(3) If neither of these updates are the problem what is? (4) How I get rid of the second driver and which one do I remove?
I really would like to have the use of my DVDRW/CDRW rom, as anyone would but I really don't want to take the pc back to factory specs AGAIN only to have the problem again after I update. I asked those question only because I want to know if the updates are the problem, then I can remove them and not let them download again
