Cookies Or Virus Program Not Allowing Site Login

I have a desktop and a laptop running vista32hp here on the desk. They both are using COMCAST mcafee. the laptop is new. The laptop goes to all my websites and logs in automatically. I LIKE DAT!
The desktop no longer does that. Of late it goes to all my websites puts in the name and password and even the "remember me" is checked, but it does not do the actual log in. I HATE DAT!
Same no matter IE or FF. Cookies are turned on, I just spend an hour going through every Mcafee setting to compare... And I have fiddled with VISTA everywhere I can think of but just cant figure it out...

I just fired up on windows vista with IE 7 after many long years on win95 and 98.
I searched but did not see this exact problem. I was trying to login to my amazon account and it said I needed to enable cookies to get in. Over the course of the next 2 hours I was finally at:
Norton shut off.
Cookies enabled with all amazon sites they listed in as trusted sites.
Cookies cleared and new window opened.
I still got the same error.

I am having an issue with some sites (like this one) not keeping my login name and password for more than the session I am here but this does not happen in XP so I have to assume is vista. I use IE7 and I have my favorite sites saved inside the Links folder so they show on the top of my browser, it saves me the time to go look for them and I just have to click on them once. Well, out 17 sites I am registered to, only 2 or 3 do this to me but only in Vista. Again, on my XP boot, this does not happen and it is driving me crazy because I don't know what to do. Things I have tried...
1.- login in and saving the the link once my name is showing on the site with issues.
2.- deleting the cookies for the site with issues and saving a new one.
If I go to a new site that I want to register, it ask me if I want to save my password so I know that is working as well. Any thoughts? I know is not that big of a deal but it irks me a bit that I don't know why it does it.

using this Windows Mail program to read messages in the MS bases. Where in the world is the internet files/cache/cookies stored now anyway? I've used the same method in viewing them for quite some time now, but using the same method after getting this new laptop with vista installed isn't showing me the files. I suppose that the files could be being handled differently now, but I'm not sure. So are these files STILL stored/accessed the same way?

At first it started closing DCOM and rebooting -I had seemed to solve the DCOM problem by instructing it to restart instead of rebooting my PC- By advice I tried Malwarebytes disconnected from my modem and in safe mode. It found a bunch of trojans and a worm and it supposedly removed them. In spite of this, Google search and Yahoo search contined to redirect my queries to advertising sites, but my PC seemed to operate normally otherwise. I then ran AVG disconnected from the web -avg only does command line in safe mode so I used it in regular start up- prior to going to bed on the 3rd night, and upon waking, I noted that AVG had a list of infections it couldn't remove.
My PC was locked up so bad that I couldn't even turn it off by the on off switch, so I had to shut it down using the power source switch. After rebooting Windows issued an error message stating that explorer has stopped working and needs to shut down. When I tried to access the Task Manager, I got a similar warning for that. Now I get errors that search host process and many other processes have shut down..............

I have a question about anti virus programs.
Recently I had some trouble with malware and came to realize how truly useless McAfee is, as my friend put it "its a DCS anti virus (doesn't catch ****)".
A few people recommended AVG and after doing some research it seems to be the way to go.
I was wondering what your opinions on AVG are and if there is anything else I could use to keep my comp safe. (I have ad block plus for firefox and malwarebytes but thats all. I feel bad for not being more careful with my poor machine, it's been abused)
Another thing. Would it be smart to just go ahead and remove McAfee from my computer completely after I get a new virus program?

My brand new computer has a virus and I used windows defender to delete it and everytime it gets done scanning it says an error has occured and I can't even delete the program that has the virus. I'm really upset that to even get help with this, i have to pay 60.00 for "advanced support." Vista is starting to SUCK.

Need good free anti virus program that runs well with Vista Home Premium. I downloaded the bought version 8.0 and began having problems with the computer lagging, and generally slow all over, not thinking it was AVG, I checked every other possible issue that I thought may be causing it. Eventually it lead to AVG, as things had been good prior to installation. I completely removed AVG and everything returned to normal, great! But then I done a further download of the program again, and once again the problems began. Is there a good alternative Anti Virus program that is recommended?

I am running a hp pavilion dv9730 with vista home prem. 32. I need to restore my system but the restore program quits do to a virus in the restore files. As it is restoring Norton sees the virus and removes it from my system but Norton can not see the virus inside the restore files. Right now my system is fine (virus wise) but I need to restore from an earlier restore point because I deleted some files and now my cd/dvd drive is not recognized. But like I said, I can not restore do to the fact that I have a virus buried inside my restore files. I could care less about the virus in the restore files, my main goal is to get my cd/dvd drive working again so I can install my business software.

With xp you can press control/alt/delete to get a login screen up then login using the administrator account. On vista the administrator account is showing as a icon on the login screen. I dont want this to be visible, any ideas how to hide this?. I saw a registry hack but this removes the icon but it seems in doing so there is then no way to login without the icon.

Is there a way to allow a trusted program through the user account control without asking for permission every time? I log into my laptop as an administrator and there is one program that needs consent through the user account control in order to run.
The program is Cisco Clean Access Agent. The geek squad at my school installed it so I can log onto the school's wireless network with my laptop.
This program is initiated through the Start Menu | Startup folder. I can't see why this shouldn't be possible because there are about 10 other programs starting when I log on (including some from the startup menu), and the Cisco app is the only one asking for permission.

I try to install to my computer stalls at the start of the actual installation (I can select where I want the files to go and agree to t & c's etc). I bought the computer new about 3 months ago, I will have to find out the specs, I'm not too computer savvy. It's really p*ssing me off, as I can't install anything... On top of that, the CD/Bluray drive keeps asking me what it wants me to burn to any disc I put in it...

I downloaded these yesterday and I have had problems with my wired modem and Netgear router today. I keep losing the internet connection. I've spoken to my ISP and Netgear. Netgear says that the modem keeps dropping the connection but my ISP says there are no problems at their end. It just seems odd that everything was working fine before I allowed these updates.

Are there certain files crucial to Vista, that you are not allowed to delete/move/rename?
If so, would explorer.exe be one of them?
I had an incident where I tried to create a desktop shortcut forWindows Explorer. I don't know why but the shortcut had ".exe" at theend. When I tried to rename it, it warned me about something, as if Iwas renaming the actual program and not just a shortcut.
I usually make a shortcut for a program by dragging the name from the Start menu to the desktop. Then it will have the name of the program with no .exe.

I have recently tried to download certain things for my computer, except i have had pop ups that says my security settings are not allowing me to download this. Somethings i can download for example things that are already on my computer (MSN) but need updated it is things that are downloaded off websites for example skype. i have been on internet options > security settings and changed my settings so that files can be downloaded, and i have also made the sites trusted sites

I'm having an issue with new users on my vista business machine. My current user account is working fine, however when I create a new account, either through control panel or through "local users and groups" option by right clicking computer. The account creates and is apparently all ready to go, however when I try log in to the account, i get an error: "the windows login service service failed the login, the user profile could not be loaded". I also notice that in C:users folder, there is no folder with the new account I created, i assume that is why the error is appearing. I have done numerious virus scans, with norton, so thats not the issue. I have found other problems on the internet but they only appear to be having problems with the main account, my main administrator account works fine.

What's up with Vista 64 (Vista) not allowing the same user; login/pass to acess a network device? I've got a small network in my office and I have just purchased a new laptop with Vista64 on it. I'm trying to access a Network drive device with my login/pass (it works on all other computers) but not the Vista64 box?
I get an error: "share is not accessible. You might not have permission (which I know my login/pass does becuase I'm logged in with XP on two other boxes). But there's the paragraph; "Multiple connections to a server or shared resouces by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed, Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again". What the heck I want to keep the same login (ME) to access a devise... is this really how it has to be with Vista?

I'm on a Toshiba Satellite that's worked fairly well except for a few self-repaired hiccups. However, about a week ago my power management plans suddenly stopped working. I can switch from different plans that change how quickly my display turns off, but my screen has been stuck at the lowest brightness possible for a while now. It has nothing to do with the plans themselves, I've restored all to their default settings and still no change in brightness when I switch between all of them. The little slider to adjust
brightness simply does not appear anymore. I can't find what exactly it is that's malfunctioning to reinstall, as no power management driver appeared on my disk from Toshiba. Can anyone provide an explanation or perhaps a link to repair this?

Ive been searching everywhere for answers i have vista home premium with windows live care anti virus in perfect condition and it detected something trying to connect to the internet. This monster devil thing icon beside it told me right away...trouble and also the random numbers...By looking in the settings of my anti virus i found that i blocked 4 of them so far ive scanned with my anti virus 2 times and 3 times with spybot search and destroy AND ran a ccleaner.It's still there...I just want to get rid of this once and for all but what in God's name is it!

This is where I am hitting a wall. I know this is the correct path, but when I get to "Windows", I can't see the cookies file.
I have clicked the view hidden files tab, under folder options but still no luck.

I turned off UAC (because that was a suggested remedy I found online for an IE8 problem I've been having). This morning, I found that my cookies had been wiped out. I tried locating the folder where cookies are stored, and the cookies folder was gone. (I made sure that hidden files were visible, as were system files.) I then turned UAC back on, and the cookies folder re-appeared--with all of my cookies intact.

Is there any way to search the cookies folder in Vista (or Windows 7)? In Windows XP, I can search a specific folder and use part of the domain/site name to find all cookies from the site (eg. microsoft*). When I try this in Vista though, I never find anything. First of all, typing cookies on the start menu is a blind alley. So, I navigate to the cookies folder, type my search term in the search box and nothing is found. When I click on the Advanced Search link and check the box to include non-indexed, hidden, and system files, it still doesn't find anything. How are people finding anything in Vista?

With all the previous versions of Windows, I could easily find the folder that stored the "cookies." Try as I may, I can't find it on Vista. I get the Windows Vista magazine and they printed the "route" you had to take, but it didn't work. Where is the cookie folder?
