I have been following the steps in some of the tutorials on how to change a drive's icon. I can get get all of my drives to change to what I want, except for my SD card reader, Drive G. I have restarted the computer several times. The default blue SD icon never changes, unless i remove the card. When i insert the card, it returns of course, but with the default blue SD icon. Any ideas out there?
My icons are perfectly fine, there are no problems. However, I have these super cute PINK folder icons that I am dying to use instead of the way *yawning* boring blue icons.
Now I imagine there is way to change these icons, or new ones would not be available for use. I feel about my computer the way I feel about my home. It is a reflection of me, and I am not a "default" or "standard" person .
Even if it is complicated I want to know how. Please, Please help me. I don't want to die of computer bordom.
I have a folder for all of my music and then subfolders for each type (country, random, etc).
When I go into one of the subfolders, my music is always listed in details.
I dont want it to, so I change it to view small icons.
If I then close the folder for several hours or even shut down/reboot, it goes back to the details.
I have since figured out how to change this by customizing the main folder, but it is now showing them in LARGE icons, which is just as annoying and keeps changing them back to large ones even after I switch it to small ones.
Some of my Desktop items have been overlay with a generic icon, Yes I have been all over this site and tried everything possible to resolve it, yes i have googled it and tried everything there as well, resetting the iconcache, resizing the icons, changing resolutions, everything, changing the icons back to default, nothing. First here is a snip of my desktop notice that computer is okay, I added the network, control panel and my folder, to show that they are okay as well also my quick launch has nothing but generic icons My start menu is the same, its about 50% generic When i try to change the icon back manually through the properties I get this the only one that does not give me this problem is impulse, but it still has the generic icon overlaying it. Rosetta stone gives me the same problem but still has its normal icon underneath the generic ones the icons will change, but the overlay is still there this happened when i installed an intel temerature moniter, i uninstalled the program, still there, did a system restore,...................
I'm running Vista on a PC that has a hd that has been formated into 3 discrete drives.Vista is loaded onto the C drive, programmes are loaded onto the d drive while i have my data stored on my E drive. By default any documents I save are directed towards My Documents on the C drive - how I go about changing that so the default is my Documents on the E drive?
BTW - My system is Vista Home Premium 64-bit NVIDIA was randomly changing the placement of my desktop icons. UNTIL, I updated the drivers to 191.07. After that, the desktop stabilized and I didn't have an issue. NOTE: My version of NVIDIA is 8500 GT/9200 (not sure why it has two?) I just updated the drivers today to 197.13 and sure enough . . . during installation, it took my desktop icons, rearranged them, and shoved them all to the left. I cannot tell you how irritating this is to me.
I have read some of the other threads and the general concensus then, was that there is no way to lock the desktop. Has anyone found a way to either lock the desktop or resolve this issue? I assume I'm not alone in this. Course the "easy" fix would be to just restore back to the earlier drivers, but . . . I'm thinking that it's really best to have the most up-to-date ones - yes??
I've upgraded my machine at some point in the last year, where I added a new 500GB drive and moved my C: partition across to it. The previous 250GB drive was left in for additional storage. Just recently (while upgrading my BIOS) I realised that my system was still booting from the 250GB drive even though Windows was on the other disk. There is a fair possibility in the not too distant future that I'll replace the 250GB disk with a larger disk, in which case I won't be able to boot. Is there a safe and reliable way to change it so that the system boots from the 500GB disk?
I didn't see this exact problem in previous threads, so I'm asking for help with it.
I recently mistakenly put a DVD-RW disc in my computer's E Drive. It was the first time I ever used a DVD-RW, and I bought a box of them by mistake thinking they were CD-RW discs. (I wanted to save money that day, so I thought I'd get the discs rather than a USB stick.) Now when I go to Computer> E Drive> Properties> Recording I have some options, but see no way to make the E Drive have CD-RW as the default rather than DVD-RW. I checked all the other tabs in E Drive> Properties as well, but can see no way to do it. This is a problem, because I just tried to format a CD-RW disc, and it went through the process only to open a window at the end saying the disc was unable to be formatted. I don't know if the change in E Drive from CD-RW drive to DVD-RW drive is related to the problem I had formatting the disc, but I suspect it might be.
I have the following setup now: C: Vista, D: CD, E: CD RW,F: DVD RW, G: = Backup Vista, H: Backup 2, I: Old Stuff. This is what shows up when I look in Computer. The surprising is that I = don't have a CD, although I do have everything else. I want to remove = the erroneous D: and rename I: to D: -- and Disk Management does not = appear to help.
I wish to install vista 64 on my computer that has Windows XP Pro as dual boot. Drive C would have XP Pro Drive G Vista 64. But when you boot vista it calls changes drive G and calls it drive C. Can this be stopped or can I install windows XP and Vista 64 to the same drive?
Hey guys, I recently recieved a new External hard drive. The other day, I changed the icon on it, no problem. I've done it millions of times. Then last night, I formatted the drive because I wanted to get rid of this annoying virtual drive that would also come up when I plugged it in. So, I formatted it and now it seems I can not change the icon. I do all the autorun.inf etc. Here's a screenshot
http://jarrodjs.rumkin.com/comp.jpg
Also you can see my other drive icons are gone. Ive reset the icon db before and no other icons have this problem but im not sure if I need to reset it again to get the rest back.
PC has problem displaying flash drive icons correctly in file open and file save dialog boxes. There are 4 flash drives (Compact Flash, SD, Memory Stick, and xD/SM). The 4 drives'icons display fine from Windows Explorer but all 4 drive icons are missing in File Open and File Save dialog boxes. The problem exists in every application's file open and file save that I checked so I'm thinking it's a problem with Vista and not with specific application.
all my desktop icons got suddenly changed to internet explorer icons, after (i opened some program in the internet,) then i did some personalisation then it changed to my adobe photoshop icon, all the desktop icons now shows the adobe,,icons.like all my programs which was earlier like (yahoo msngr, msn mesengr, windows vista programs, almost all other programs) and my internet wireless stopped working. i have a vista home premium 32. and my comp is asus f3t series. i was trying to do the icon cache, but couldnt find. tried restarting but couldnt solve.now trying to run my antivirus scan Mcafee. if anybody knows the solution to restore my earlier icons.
All of my picture icons were changed to standard-generic icons when I had my computer restored to the factory direct setting. Now they don't display anything except a flower, house, ect. My question is: How do I change the picture icon setting back so I can see a tiny preview thingy for each icon, instead of having to click on each one to see what they really are?
Desktop icons overwritten. After a recent automatic update it appears my desktop icons have two icons on top of each other. Visible on top is the "default" icon and slightly visible underneath is the original icon. I use Firefox and Vista Ultimate 32.
A Vista SP1 Home Premium problem - 9 live icons covering 9 dead icons: Several days ago I had a desktop with 9 live, working icons at the bottom of the desktop. ie: recycle bin, computer, network, control panel, etc. The 9th icon was a folder called 'powershell'.
Several days ago I deleted the 'powershell' folder, and, underneath that folder, was surprised to find a dead copy of the 'powershell' folder. The deleted 'powershell' folder was in the recycle bin, and an undeleted dead copy on the desktop. This dead copy cannot be accessed with selection, left-click, or right-click operations - so the 'Properties' info cannot be displayed.........
I've been using Windows Vista Premium for over a year now. So far I've no problems with it yet. However, just recently, I noticed that the icons for the computer and recycle bin were gone. Futhermore, the icon for some of the folders on my computer were either blank or a icon of the computer. Some files (ranging from the .dll to .exe) were changed to the computer icon as well. The icons for the floppy drive and my usb also disappeared and are displayed by the icon that represents file that windows does not recognise. How I can restore these icons? I have tried a system restore back a week when they were all still good but that did not make a difference.
There are icons infront of the real icons and i have no clue how to get rif of them i downloaded aliengiuse from alienware to change everything but this was the biggest mistake as you can see .
So I just traded out my year old Gateway laptop (which stopped working) for a new Dell Inspiron. I've never been particularly impressed with Dell but the Tech Guy at Best Buy assured me the quality of their laptops had improved. Anyway, it came with Windows Vista Home Premium. Since it was a Dell it came loaded with a stardock with mac-like icons instead of desktop icons. I like it so I customized it with the icons for the programs I use most, stared typing up notes for medical school with MS Word, and started downloading music files.
So the other day I notice strangely that the dock had reverted back to the original icons that were present when I first got the computer. Then I noticed all of the files downloaded/saved to the harddrive had disappeared. So I start anew adding files and replacing most of the old ones. Then suddenly yesterday the dock changes again back to how it was...customized and the files that I originally had reappeared but now the files I saved when it changed the first time are gone. So what is going on? Is this some kind of glitch in the OS? Is there something wrong with the actual computer? how get my files back?
I am Using Vista Ultimate 64. I would like to tranfer my entire drive incuding all files and the Operating system From my current IDE HDD to a new SATA Drive of the sames size (500 Gig) I need the IDE Drive for an older computer ( The 40 Gig IBM Deathstar still functions great, but all programs seem more bloated these Days)
Anyway I went to Administrative Tools and Formated the New Drive NFTS with no Drive Letter. But I cannot get it recognized as a transfer device when I go to system backup. Can I use 'C' on the second and soon to be only drive? If I have to use E or F for now can I change it back later. would that affect the file system? I intend to Low level Format the IDE and try cloning the old machine's XP Drive (32 bit) to it in the second place.
My question: can I simply install the 64 bit version over the current 32 bit? Can I just put the discs back into the machine and let Vista take it's course by ticking the 64 bit option when it appears on the load up screen?
Or, do I have to go through the entire process of re-formatting/wiping the drives and start from scratch? I am using the Ultimate version, and am not sure about these things.
I have a newer computer purchased in August 2008, HP Pavilion a6530F. It came with Windows Vista Home Premium Edition (64bit)
Hard to find software to work on it, occassionally I can make something work by changing the compability mode or running as administrator. Had I known all this when I got the computer, I would not have bought it.
How much trouble (cost too) to have someone change from Vista 64 to Vista 32. I am guessing that entails new drivers etc. I am just a normal user, don't play games, only the granddaughter age 11 plays games like Nancy Drew. I have a 640GB hard drive which is way more than I ever needed. Was not aware of software issues like I can't use my Photo shop Sofware and other things I have.
Ref. Windows Vista. I have noticed that when viewing Network that my router displays its type and most of the password. I'd like to remove the password information from the icon information. File - Rename is greyed.
I currently own a Vista premium 64bit laptop.....I'm trying to install Empire total war, which requires Directx 10. In order to install that I need to activate .Net 3.0. I attempted to do this by going to Control Panel....Turn On/Off Windows Features....checked all of the boxed under .Net 3.0.....then it configues but then displays the message "an error has occurred. not all of the features were successfully changed" I have no idea what to do....I attempted to see if I could uninstall .Net 3.0 but I couldn't find it anywhere.
