A Windows Security Logon box keeps asking me for my user name and password. When I type in both, it does not recognize it. If I'm already connected to the Internet through my ISP software Windows Mail will connect to my mail servers with no problem but if I'm not already connected it will not connect. Internet Explorer and many other programs (even several of my freeware programs) will connect to the Internet using my ISP connection when my PC is not already connected to the internet. I've tried but can't get Windows Mail to connect through my Internet connection.
I ended-up having to setup a Dial-up connection to connect Windows Mail when I'm not already connected to the Internet. It has to be set as the default connection to work but this causes other problems. For the most part it works fine but the Dial-up connection can't turn on my SpeedBand (Turbo mode) because that's embedded in my ISP software. Also, some programs use the Dial-up connection while others use the Internet connection(?)................
I bought a new home computer with Vista to replace an old one running XP. Outlook Express came with XP, while Vista has Windows Mail instead. I used to be able to set it up to get my MSN mail from within Outlook Express, which I have yet to figure out how to do the same with Windows Mail. I heard that Windows mail cannot take in webmail like MSN. Is that true? Is that is true, then two obvious questions.
1) Why would Microsoft go backward and remove a functionality from newer mail program that comes with the operating system?
2) Both Windows Mail and MSN are Microsoft products, so how can it be possible that they don't connect? Can anyone enlighten me before I throw in the tower and move back to XP?

But the Exchange server provides a POP3 mailbox to clients, I have an extra available, it would be nice if I could use it. The only reason that I would like to is because the Brother scanner application brings up Win Mail when it scans to email, even though I have set Outlook to be the default program for the .msg file type. I have an XP Pro PC on my home network and am trying to connect to a Lexmark X215 printer that is shared off of the XP Pro machine. I am connecting with a new Vista Home Premium Dell XPS M1530 laptop. The rest of the network is working fine - shared files, folders, access to the Internet, etc.
The message I get when I try to connect is that Windows cannot connect to the printer.
i have just installed PES 2009 an i could log into the Gamenetwork of Konami without permitting PES to connect to the internet! So have looked it up and there is no cross for PES in the FireWall-settings. How is this possible? Perhaps the Gamesettings which open some Ports (but ports have nothing to do with the firewall or?)

You cannot create a new connection, because the create a connection is for PPPoE only, (which is not very smart). And when the browser gives you the option to connect, it asks for name/password for a PPPoE connection.
1. How do I get the Vista networking to recognize the fact is has a direct connection to the Internet?
2. How can you create a new connection without it defaulting to PPPoE?
3. Is there any way to force Vista to simply connect to a network, if the network is available, and has been checked with other computers as working properly, and Network discovery is on, and vista simply says unknown network?........
My main mail client is my office XP system, I also receive mail in home. So I select the 'Leave mail on Server' in my home XP system and it work fine. But after I upgrade my home PC to Vista system (I export my mail account for XP outlook express then inport it to my Vista system.) then it have problem - when the mail that I received in home Vista system Windows Mail then i no longer can receive in office mail client. View 9 Replies View RelatedOne day i tried logging in using windows live messenger and got an error 81000306. I've tried disabling autotuning as prescribed by some websites but it has not worked. Tried resetting winsock, forwarding ports for the .net messenger, repaired Windows live messenger, and still no go. I ran the windows live messenger tests and they all passed, so it's weird that i cannot connect.
I've also noticed that when logging on to sites that use the windows Live ID, the pages will not load. Status indicated on the browser is that it says " Connected to logon.live.com " but dOes nothing else. no webpage is loaded and it does this until the connection times out. This happens when signing in to bungie.net or xbox.com as well. I also have my xbox 360 connected to the same modem (without a router, i just take the ethernet cord and plug it to whichever i wanna use), and it can connec to Windows messenger on the dashboard ok.
Have restarted and restarted, have power cycled the modem, even reseated my D-Link ethernet pci card. I have not made any large changes, other than i am using Open DNS, and it's updater since my ISP has dynamic IP, and i have turned off UAC. I've done every troubleshooting step i can think of (I worked for tech support for a computer manufacturer, so i've pretty much used up everything that training has given me and my 2 years experience in that field). All other messenger programs work. Tried using pidgin, with the same result, i can connect with all other IMs except windows live.
I keep getting messages saying wmp has found xxxx -pc do i want to connect and share files. I dont know where this comes from and always click NO but it seems to always come back.

How stable is Windows Live Mail? Does it convert your old Windows Mail messages and keep storing messages on your computer, or only online? And what about Contacts? Is there something good to read to read about moving from Windows Mail to Windows Live Mail? The material at is pretty superficial.
