I recently downloaded a trial version of MS Money Deluxe and can't install; I get a window that pops up saying "autorun.inf missing or corrupt". I'd like to try and buy but can't even do the former.

I face a weird issue with my Vista Enterprise edition. Sometime back suddenly one day all the autorun settings disappeared from my system. When I checked the autorun defaults setting from the control panel I see that that dropdowns have gone blank completely. All the default options like "Open folder..", "Take no action", "Ask me everytime", etc. are simply wiped off... No more there! Later when I installed some software like picasa, winamp, etc. these programs got added to the options list in the autorun defaults, but the above default options are still missing.
Now the autorun works in my system, and automatically launches the applications like picasa or winamp for appropriate disks, but I can't set/select the options like "Take no action" or "Ask me everytime" how I can add those default options back again?
LOng story short, I had to restore last night due to what seemed like a video driver problem. I restored, back a couple weeks and it fixed my video issue. It then did the automatic windows updates, including SP1, which I thought was odd, but I went with it. After the download & update the system rebooted...and then it all went downhill. I actually got another error message which I can't recall at the moment, but it was a black screen not a blue.... I then broke out my original windows recovery discs, rebooted and it went directly to the recovery options and screens as I was expecting. The first disc ran fine, backing up files, blah blah.....it said to reboot...and then THIS stuff started.......

Where can get the correct files/ a good recovery disk/ a bootable virus cd (tried bit defender - didn't work). I've read soooo many pages about this and nothing works. Startup repair - doesn't work; complete system recovery - doesn't work; formatting during the vista installation - doesn't work.

The problem happens with several applications, mostly with word 2007. every log says the fault is ntdll.dll
The file is present in C:windowssystem32
Any effort to change the fila with a new one tells me I have no rights (with both local admin account and enterprise domain admin account).
Trying to register ntdll.dll results with error message that dll or ocx file is missing or corrupt.
sfc /scannow in cmd gives no files with errors.
I'm using Vista home premium 32 bit, and it automatically installed an update from microsoft. It then asked me to restart the computer, which I did, but when I did, it wouldn't load again because it said that "winload.exe was missing or corrupt". It then asked me to use the installation cd to restore it, but Vista came preinstalled, so I don't have the CD. How can I fix this? I can't even load to safe mode to restore to a restore point....
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just recieved my new desktop from CyberPowerPC last Thursday. On Monday morning, Windows could not start up due to a missing or corrupt registry. However, Sunday night when I shut off the PC, it was still working perfectly fine. When I turn on the PC, this is the screen I get: The only options given to me afterwards are 3 safe modes, attempt to reboot with the last known good setting, or start Windows normally. Choosing any of those options just gives me the missing/corrupt registry screen again and sends me back to those 5 choices, OR screen just goes black and nothing happens.
I've tried to use the CyberPowerPC Windows recovery disk that came with the PC, setting boot priority in the BIOS to CD/DVD drive to the top. Screen tells me to press any key to boot from CD, then this screen appears: Once it finishes loading, this appears: But afterwards, the screen becomes blank, and I see the monitor actually darkening. The numlock light on my keyboard darkens, meaning that turned off or something too. Here is what CyberPower has told me to do: "The error message you are seeing is a corrupted Windows system file that would require the operating system to be reinstalled. This can be done by booting directly from the Cyberpower Recovery disc. Make sure theoptical drive is set as the first boot device in the BIOS and tap the ENTER key as the computer starts to boot the computer off the disc rather than the hard drive." But of course, that isn't working...The PC is still new, so I have no problem with losing any data if it comes to that.
I had a perfectly good dual boot Vista and XP system until I installed Windows 7 RC. I installed Windows 7 RC to a new partition on the Vista (slave drive) with XP installed on the master drive. Vista and Windows 7 booted okay but despite there being 3 options in the boot menu - Earlier Version of Windows (XP), Vista and Windows 7, XP would not (and will not) boot. The error message when selecting XP from the boot menu was that the boot.ini file is invalid; I then get a message saying that the system32hal.dll is corrupt or missing.
I used EasyBCD to restore a backup of the previous Vista boot loader which worked with XP. Windows 7 disappeared from the boot options but I still cannot boot in to XP - I get the same error message (boot.ini and hal.dll). I can boot in to Vista. EasyBCD tells me that there are 2 entries in the Vista bootloader:.....
I have been having serious difficulty getting my laptop to start in the last few months but have usually been able to solve the problems for a while until they come back but now I am faced with a new boot issue that I cannot fix.
When I turn on the laptop, after about 5 minutes I get the message "windows failed to start because the system registry file is missing or corrupt" and gives this location windowssystem32configsystem and also status: oxc000000f. I am instructed to boot from the vista dvd and repair windows, startup problems or whatever but when I try this I get the exact same message described above.
I have had a lot of startup problems recently but they have always been solved either by booting from the dvd and reparing startup problems, or more commonly, by running the chkdisk which would generally have my laptop running well for a week or so before new problems occurred. I've searched the web but people keep suggesting booting from the vista dvd which as I said isnt working. No matter what I try I get the same message, safe mode etc will also not work.
wanting to add XP as an addl os using dual boot. I managed to get XP installed along with Vista home basic, but apparently messed up the boot sequence. I can can boot Vista, but not XP ...error window says file: tldr status: 0xc000000f the selected entry could not be loaded as the application is missing or corrupt
I used Vista Boot Pro 3.3 to set the booting. If I set VPR to install legacy booting, it will boot up with XP (no dual boot choice), but not Vista. If I select use legacy boot for selected drive E (XP), it says it is set, but a reboot brings me back to the error above. If I use VBR and set booting for Vista, only Vista boots. I have tried using the XP CD to do a repair install, but it asks for a password, which I never have set. When I hit enter, it keeps asking for password, then times out after the 3rd failed attempt. I only have the Vista backup CD (2 actually) from Dell, not an install Vista CD. My hd is a SATA, and I see that may be a problem by reading other threads here, but I have no floppy drive, only the cd/dvd. If I need another file which may be missing, can someone point me in the right direction ?

It tells me to insert my installation disc and restart your computer however when I do that I go right back to the previous screen which I just described. I already changed the boot order to boot from the DVD drive first however it continues to skip this screen and keeps looping to the same screen. Does anyone know another way to load my disc so I can continue with the repair?.
I was informed by the developers over at Flagship Studios that I may have a corrupt install of DX10 on my system. I went to reinstall DX10 but it tells me that I have the most up to date version and aborts the install. Does anyone know a way I can reinstall DX10? Also, I would like to try intalling DX9c to see if it helps any. Can someone link me to wich download I should use for this?
View 7 Replies View Relatedwhen i turn on my computer, an error message comes saying "Windows failed to load because a file is missing or corrupt File: Netio.sys Status: 0xc0000221" This started when i was clearing my computer of useless programs, and after i deleted Realtime player or Quicktime player, (can't remember which) an error message jumped from the taskbar saying something about Network device driver. After that every time i start the computer, the "Windows failed to load" message pops up. The first half a year, it was solved by pressing enter, to "Choose an operating system to start: Windows Vista" and then to "Windows error recovery (start windows normally, safe mode etc)" and back to "Windows failed to start", repeating it 3-20 times. Then i had a familiar "Unexpected shutdown" during a game, and now, the "Enter spamming technique" doesn't work anymore. All i can access at the moment is Windows memory diagnostic tool, and Bios setup utility. Is there any way to fix this through the setup utility or some other manner?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got 4 SATA hard drives which all worked properly before I installed Vista 64. I now have 3 that Vista recognizes. The missing drive is a 320G WD SATA 3.0 drive. The "missing" drive shows up in the BIOS and is listed under the device manager. The device manager says the disk is working, and when I tried to update the driver I got a message that the drive was already up to date. The disk does not show up under disk management. The data on the disk is extremely important to me so a reformat without saving the data is out of the question.

'Autorun from network drives is allowed'
'Autorun from hard drives is allowed'
'Removeable Media autorun is allowed'
'CD/DVD autorun is allowed'
i fixed it, but when i tried to rollback settings, it didn't work. I know it's unsafe to enable autorun, but what should i do to enable it? I tried to enable autoplay by changing default settings for media or devices, but nothing changed.
Quick example: Put in CoD4, no options come up. Even when I right click it in Computer, there's not Autorun on the list, as there has been many times before. I tried the regedit option, it was set to 0, I put it to 1 and restarted, still nothing.

- When i insert a disc or USB device, nothing happens
- When i go to My Computer and double click on the drive, Vista asks me if i want to format the CD/DVD

View 6 Replies View RelatedI know this is a vista group but i don't see a windows 7 group. i had disabled autorun because i don't like it. however, if i'm playing music in wmp and i put in a cd that has video either dvd or wmv/mp4 files, wmp suddenly stops playing the music and starts playing the video files on that cd. if autorun is disabled, why is wmp automatically doing this?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI bought an HP Pavillion a6750f in May. Its OS is Vista 64bit. This machine ran fine for the first month, then I started having issues. I cannot pinpoint the start of the problems to any one event. I first "lost" autorun. I was trying to install PhotoImpact. The first disk worked fine, but when I put the second one in, I got an error message telling me something about autorun (seems to me it was something else, but I cannot remember what at this time). Any way, if I put any disks in, the computer would not automatically open them, or run them. After a few days of struggling with this, I finally got things working again. But, about a week after that, I began getting the Windows Explorer has stopped working error. That still is not fixed! I am a college student who takes most of my courses online. I needed Adobe Photoshop CS4 and Dreamweaver CS4, so when I tried installing them, I got a bunch of errors, issues, and problems. I uninstalled just about every program I had, and tried installing one at a time to see if any of the programs were causing problems. Vista, as you know, does not support many older programs, which is a PAIN! But, I did find a few "upgrades" for some of my programs so they would work with Vista. Unfortunately, after installing those "upgrades", my computer still did not work properly......

I have recently got a copy of Fifa 2008 iso. I used virtual clone drive to mount the image. Following this, the iso is getting mounted but autorun crashes.
I get the following error - "Autorun program has stopped working". Because of this I can't even install the game. It's a cracked iso and it works perfectly fine on XP machines. So, I presume that this is a problem with vista only.

I have a program that scans your computer for viruses and other stuff(its not an antivirus) and it uses SOPHOS antivirus to find viruses. It found one virus on my computer called " W32/autorun-FF " and I downloaded the 30-day trial of Sophos antivirus but it is not finding the W32/autorun-FF Virus . Is there a way I could remove it manually ? :S. when I go to the registry and click on "Hkey_Current_User" on the right side I see " OS shutdown REG_DWORD 0X00000000(0).
View 5 Replies View RelatedI turn on my computer and it tells me that my c drive is corrupt and to run chkdsk.
I go into command prompt (right clicking on it to run it as an admin) and run the command sfc /scannow.
It says that it's starting the system scan and that it will take some time, but as it's getting it's "Verification" it stops at 9 percent complete and says that "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation."
I've also tried going in through computer>right click>properties>tools>error-checking>check now and then clicking both check-boxes >start>schedule disk check and then I've tried restarting, but nothing happened.
I have a problem with my PC with windows updates. When I turn the computer on in the morning it starts installing new updates. this takes about 35 minutes on stage 1 of 3 then it shuts down. When it restarts again I get a tech guys message to say "Your computer was unable to start. Running start-up repair"
At the end of this when I look at the diagnosis it says:
Boot critical file C:
toskrnl.exe is corrupt
Repair Action: File repair
Result! failed error code OxA
Time taken = 4462ms
Repair action: System restore
Result: Completed successfully
Error code = OXO.
This is now happening every time I restart my computer and it takes about an hour. Windows then starts OK until the next time
Do I need to reinstall windows Vista Home Premium??? It was already installed on the PC when I bought it and they did not give me a CD.
I downloaded the lastest updates for Vista, upon reboot, got the following error Boot Critical file: C......Tcpip.sys is corrupt. Will not boot at all, even in safe mode. Inserted my DVD and attempted a "repair", it failed on TCPIP.sys and said there it was not able to complete the repair.
View 7 Replies View Relatedjust re-booted my pc got error pfn list corrupt am i right in thinking this is ram or hard drive related i did run memtest for 16 hours then stopped it thought it was playing up thats why it was running so long or does it run that long i have 2 gig of ram vista intel quad core 6600 2.40 ghz. 64 bit operating system memtest did show some error but how reliable is it.
