COD4 lags extremly on my laptop even though I have 2 GB ram and a GeForce 8400 GS graphic card and run Sins of a Solar Empire and Medieval 2 Total war on almost all High Graphics.
View 9 RepliesOKAY the answer to many has been looking for on how to get around the problem "Cannot access due to a location on the network" and I recommend to not installing Sins of a solar empire from a shared drive or other location but only on the computer you choose to install it on.
You will need 1 program, "RegWorks" this is an advance search program for "Regedit".
After installing this program, open it. Hit Ctrl F (Brings up search)
Search these key words>
Stardock and delete all entry's.
Sins of a solar empire delete all entry's
Now search for the "Error" location that of which your game is trying to install/uninstall from. Example, my was ....
Have just discovered that my new laptop, an Advent 9315 2GB mem, Vista Home etc, contains a SiS graphics system which is not supported by Second Life. What can I do? Also I have loaded Call of Duty 4 but it too won't run.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi am trying to watch videos in hd on Internet or episodes of on-line shows in "high quality". they are just using flash player 10. i understand i don't have a very fast connection (1.5 mps) but even if i pause the program and let it load, it still stops every 30 seconds or so and i get the "little circle of dots" is this a graphics issue? is it something else? is it my connection speed? i would think if i let it load first i should be able to view in higher quality.
View 8 Replies View Relatedso with 12 gigs of ram and a supposedly sick card like the 4890, one would think a game like counter-strike 1.6, which was made 8 or 9 years ago, would run with constant 100 fps. or you would think that a higher end game like empire total war could run in the "very high" graphics settings.
well, my fps CAN be 100...but it drops to 20 to 50 in any combat at all, and ranges from 60 to 100 when basically 'idle'. this is counter-strike 1.6!!! i should be getting 100 fps no problem. and i'm not a nub. vsync is off, i've dled, uninstalled and reinstalled the latest ati drivers and ccc. for empire total war? the gameplay is choppy on ANY setting and i expected better. after removing the sound card and taking the 4890 out of the slot it was in and moving it up a couple slots (i was desperate and tried everything i could!) the empire gameplay seemed to maybe be a bit smoother.
i am having trying to make Age of Empires 3 play on my new vista premium computer. The game has worked perfectly well on my previous computer with windows XP. The game appears to load ok and actually goes through the video introduction with no problems but as soon as it gets to the screen where you select play options it shuts down and a meassage appears saying windows will try and find a solution.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI bought cod4 (which works with disc) and wanted to play without the disc through an ISO. the multiplayer works fine but when opening single player it comes up with the error iw3sp.exe has stopped working. Now i have looked through the other threads but nothing is working for me. I am running Vista3. i made the ISO using toshiba disc creator and mount it with daemon tools lite note: multiplayer works perfectly with the mounted ISO.

Anyways, my issue is I have a G5 mouse running Vista Ultimate x64. I have the Logitech SetPoint software to run at startup, but when I go into COD4 and then to controls and set the "throw frag grenade" to Mouse 5 nothing happens but on my G5 the DPI setting light goes from the top LED to the middle one as if I pressed the button to lower the DPI setting on the mouse.
Now I found a work around which was to go into the Startup folder and go into the properties of the shortcut for Setpoint and choose "run as administrator". However, everytime I boot the system it tells me that Setpoint was blocked by UAC and if I want to unblock it I have to choose to manually unblock it. This occurs EVERYTIME I boot up, however, this issue doesn't happen on my laptop which has the same software version of Setpoint and the same mouse, only difference is my laptop has Vista Home Premium.
So with all that in mind, my question is why do I have to run Setpoint as an administrator and tell it to manually run at startup on one system but on another it runs just fine?
I have tried to find on my laptop what if any difference there might be in the Setpoint software but I can't find any.
I've been having issues with COD4 locking up. It locks up randomly. I've proved it's not an overheating issue by playing Crysis on full graphics in a high resolution for two hours. So it's definitely not a heat issue. Joe has informed me that driver lock ups will be recognized and will keep the OS from kernel panic or hard system locks. My only other guess is SoundMAX (on-board high definition 7.1 sound). It's given me numerous problems in several games. I've killed all background processes. I have not killed PunkBusterA and B because I play professionally on CEVO and CAL. Also, Crysis uses PunkBuster.
Just for grins I checked my CPU/GPU/MOBO temps and they all appear well within operational ranges. I have no add-ins except for my graphics card: EVGA GeForce GTX 280. I'm on the i7 processor with the P6T Deluxe motherboard. I use a SATA Hard Drive (I was thinking about firmware updates, but I doubt it's a hard drive issue since Crysis runs for hours). I'm using a Sony CD/DVD RW ROM. My OS is Vista 64 Ultimate. I'm using a USB mouse/keyboard and DELL Flat Panel (DVI).......
the problem is that cod4 freezers ive installed the patches in order, all drivers are up to date, directx up to date but still it freezers
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm running Vista 64bit and when I'm playing BFBC2 or CoD4 or any other demanding game in particular, I'm getting these lag spikes. It's very annoying since it mostly happens when I'm going for a nice kill. Anyway, my connection is wireless and I'm using a sweex wirelesss lan pci card wich can receive up to 300mbs. I'm wondering if anyone shared the same problem and might had a solution for me.

Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 8.00 GB
Total Physical Memory 4.00 GB
Available Physical Memory 3.16 GB
I'm basicaly wondering why its says that I have 8GB installed but only 4GB - 'Total Physical Memory'? In Task manager - Performance, it says that I have 8GB of physical memory so it is being used.
As you can see this is a 64-bit OS. I'm getting these contradictions in Vista and not Windows 7 on the same machine. A picture is worth a thousand words so ... below are 6 snips, the top 3 are Vista and the bottom 3 are Windows 7 for comparison.
View 7 Replies View RelatedAs of an hour ago I could not open AIM, McAfee, or HP Total Care Advisor. When ever I try to open one of these three programs I get and error message. Here's an example when opening McAfee;mcshell.exe - Bad Imagec:Windoessystem32SHFolder.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains and error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or software vendor for support. Then if you hit OK it comes up again and again four times with that same title then the title changes to "E398ADA39B044C5808A09B3D49548DB: mcshell.exe" The only way to get this error message to vanish is open task manager and end that program. What's going on with my computer? Also a program called On-Acess Scanner service has stopped working. I don't know that program.

I've noticed that the total free memory is being reported as 45.3 GB. I've done some research and found this forum. I've checked vssadmin list shadows and it's reported as:
used shadow copy storage space: 3.576 GB
allocated shadow copy storage space: 3.82 GB
maximum shadow copy storage space: 10.882 GB
Where did the entire 27.2 GB go?
I was on teh Firefox when it crashed randomly and when I started it back up it gave me a screen of the Vista Total Security thing. It's telling me that I need to register my version of this program and it's even giving me "Security ALERTS" of attacks. I know this was not legit so I proceeded to search for some way to get rid of it. I found one but it didn't work. It was probably connected to Firefox somehow so I deleted all my history and stuff from the browser and it still shows. Even after I close it with Task Manager, it still wants to ask me if I want to start Firefox or IE even if it's "infected" with a virus of some sort.
I took some pics as it came up while writing this thread. Also, BitDefender didn't seem to pick up this problem too so...Maybe I'll post some more pix so you can see. I got yet another "Notification" after posting..
I don't know if I am in the right place. But the people here seem to know what they are talking about. I have HP Pavilion dv5-1235dx Entertainment Notebook Pc. Windows Vista Home Premium SP2. I have already talked and emailed HP about 20 times. I had a problem with total care advisor so HP told me to uninstall it and then reinstall it so I did and the website they gave me to download it was really to update it and would not install. Now they say I have to do a system recovery. Is there anyway to download the HP Total Care Advisor without doing a system recovery? I was told by HP that I need this to do hp updates and it is important for my computer.

My graphics are so bad that i can't play simple games and i know that my graphics card used to work perfectly. I just need to know if it is vista that has changed my graphics card and if it did how can i fix it. Also for Hardware Acceleration, i can not turn it on because i do not have the troubleshoot option in my display settings. My nero will not burn any dvd disc's due to that.

My problem is that although BIOS recognize the RAM size to be 4GB and the Properties/System shows also 4GB, but both of the System Information/System Tools and Performance/Task Manager show 2GB. How can I check to see if 4GB is being made available for the system to utilize?

I also noticed the same thing when I had the Recycle Bin Folder open.
I think I have tried everything and I am not computer savoy enough to try some. But recently my computers CPU has been fluctuating a lot and has been pretty slow..I took off most of the start up programs and only have a few (virus software etc) but I was wondering if maybe it could be not by updating my drivers.. or bc i only updated some of my drivers.

I looked for posts dealing with RAM and had trouble finding, I thought everybody had problems with slow PCs. Now i need some advice please I have a Vista that is 1 1/2 years old and it had become really slow. RAM is high even when all applications are off and Firefox can use up to 1GB of memory and I have 2G/, I used software like RAMboost and did the long OnceCare scan with MCS, defragmented drives, increased the memory that can be used as RAM on the hard drive. etc.....many things recommended. still same nothing is changed after a short while. Is reformatting and bringing back to how it was when I bought my only hope? And should Firefox take a bloody 1 GB of RAM alone? I checked the processes in task manager and it seems I need all of them somehow and if that was the case if I reformat then wouldn't the same thing happen again?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Intel Core Duo 1.60 ghz processor with 2gb of RAM and my computer will constantly have 100% of the RAM taken up. I usually only run firefox, AIM, and itunes at a given time and I don't understand why my computer can't handle it. I will open up the task manager and it doesn't seem like any one task is taking up that much RAM, I don't understand what is doing it. I ran a virus scan with norton and it says I am clean, so I am puzzled by how my RAM could always be maxing out.

I have only had this computer for a month and at first it did not do this. then it started every couple of reboots then almost every reboot, but for a while i was able to boot to safe mode and tool around for a bit and then reboot normal and everything would be in sync. I can tell when the comp is booting up if the CPU is going to act up or not, the circle thing by the mouse during the boot up gets jerky and the intro music will be off from the visual..
i have tried turning off the OC but this has no effect. i have to have the OC or the system severely lags. right after this started if i would adjust the OC level it would have some effect ie.. make the cpu normal but now i can do what ever i want and it sits at 50%. While this is happening there are no apps running. and the standard processes but none using more than 04% of the cpu......
I have ran the Microsoft conectivity test many times on my new Netgear DG834G V4(firmware v5.01.09) and it fails on the TCP high performance test(see screenshot attached) I like my Vista tweaks and always had it set to highlyrestricted with my old Tiscali standard Siemens SE587 receiving speeds of over 7Mb on a 8Mb connection almost everyday.
Some of my DSLzone forum buddies have said that theirs passes the test but why does mine fail. I have asked Netgear support and they cannot tell me whether this router supports this feature or not....what a joke!

I have a Very Powerfull Processor, an E8400 3.6 GHZ and after i installed updates when i move my mouse on my desktop my explorer.exe process SHOOTS UP to 11 percent CPU usage its very unnecessary, on xp it stayed at 0 percent, Anyone know how to fix this? Whenever i move my mouse on my desktop explorer.exe uses anywhere from 5-11 percent CPU.
Its strange because if i move my mouse over firefox the firefox.exe cpu usage goes high to. same thing with ie7. Basically anything i move my mouse over gets 11-15 percent CPU usage, its very unnecessary.
