Mar 23, 2008When I attempt to utilize the back up function in Vista, I receive an error message: 0x80041321. It will not let me continue. How can I rectify?

Nov 9, 2009Somehow, there is a system (presumeably software) conflict of some type that will no longer let several of my software applications (itunes, quickbook, quicken, etc) connect to the internet. Specifically, itunes can connect to the internet, but when I try to connect to the store, I get an error message (-9812). Same with Quicken when we try to connect securely to banks. This is a problem specifically b/c I can no longer sync my iphone.
I have uninstalled my Norton internet security, turned off the firewall, made sure all the software has exceptions w/in the firewall with it on, made sure the date/time clock is correct, changed internet explorer security, disabled as many programs (in attempt to get arround any conflicts) and restarted the computer in safe mode all without success. I also cleared out my host file, but that didn't work either. My older laptop with windows xp and my two iphones are having no such connection issues. So therefor, I'm fairly certain it's a windows or software issue of some type.
I've searched everything, tried as much as I know to do. My next best solution was to maybe do a system restore to a prior timepoint, but using the system restore feature within windows, it only gives me a weeks worth of dates to choose from... I need to go back like 1-2 months now. Does anyone have a solution or another method to go back in time without completely starting from scratch? (I have a dell that will let me restore back to factory settings). One other option I considered was upgrading to windows 7 as it might solve my problem and allow me to keep all my settings. Opinions on this option?
Use System Restore To Restore Back To Certain Restore Points?
May 26, 2008Why can't I use system restore to restore back to certain restore points? I was only successful twice with it. When my laptap was new and when I used it after re-formatting my hard drive. On all occassions after those two instances I can never restore back to any restore point. It always says that "unspecified error" line. If Microsoft doesn't know what happend, how could I. Why did they bother putting system restore if it doesn't work all the time anyway. It gives you a false sense of security.

Also if a file backup completes successfully and is backed up on a network drive will I be able to restore from a new install of window vista premium on the same laptop that was backed up to the network drive? Is there a better way using vista premium? I have Norton Ghost 12.0 on my desktop but not on the laptop with vista premium. Don't what to have to buy a license for laptop if there is another way to make sure in case of a failure of the operating system that I could recover by an full backup or image ? I do some beta testing and do not want to spend hours re-loading software.
System Back-up, Restore
Jan 23, 2008i had to reinstall Vista and to avoid this in the future i am considering an extern harddrive via the USB port to make a full back-up of everything on the computer. How to restore it if Vista is no longer available? When you are no longer in control of the system. Does one alter the bios so the USB port will be looked at first? And if so can one restore every byte from the extern hard drive to the original drives. Furthermore Windows claims that the restore can be put on other computers. I find this hard to believe when the other computer has not the same hardware setup

Feb 21, 2009After enduring the black screen and mouse pointer of death all morning with 4 system restores I have decided to go ahead with a back up/restore program (Acronis) outside of what came with the laptop (backup the backup). Presently I have several gigs of stuff I don't use but don't want to delete so would like to compress on one of my external drives. My goal is to, after packing my old stuff on my 125g Maxtor I'd like to create one image of the entire laptop drive, programs, files etc, then back up the My Documents folder and pics as they are changed on my 1T WD Book.
Herein lies the rub, I have downloaded 7Zip and have begun compressing some files. It was a crap shoot due to my having zero knowledge of what each of the settings mean and how to set them to get the most out of the 2 hrs it takes to do the compression. Dictionary size? Solid block size? Number of CPU threads? Word size? I went ahead with what they recommended (normal) but was not seeming to save any space so I stopped and tried Ultra. I understand this is a powerful piece of software but where can I find information on all this. I have searched this forum and the 7Zip forum (which is a post-apocalyptic waste land of unanswered posts), Google presented nothing. (When I searched for 'what is "solid block size"' I found "solid block size dictates the size of your solid block" LOL)......
Getting Back To The Hidden Restore Partition
Jun 28, 2008Is there a disk or a utility that can get me back to put vista back on my machine? What I did was format the C: Drive and installed WinXP as I had probs getting on with Vista but I am finding I am having more problems with WinXP than I did with Vista. Its cracking me up as ZooStorm dont give out disks for windows vista and they dont provide a way of creatig a backup disk, Just the partition.

Mar 28, 2009I've had no luck at all using Windows Mail. I've been everywhere looking for soultions. All the solutions were vialbe for setting up an account with AOL. As far as that goes, everything is fine except receiving sent mail. I get no error messages when sending. I can send to AOL and it arrives. When I send to gmail, it never arrives and yet there is no error message. After weeks of trying that is the end result. The other problem is that when Windows Mail takes my AOL mail it does not leave a copy at AOL. As a result, all AOL mail is currently stored in Windows Mail, which is the only way I can access it. Thus my question: Is it possible to some how return my AOL mail back to AOL from Windows Mail?

IE An Error Message Get Displayed
Sep 7, 2009Everytime I open IE an error messeage gets displayed. I clicked the "Diagnose Connection Problems" button and the a box appeared saying "Windows confirmed that www.yahoo.com is currenly online, but is not responding to connection attemps at this time. This usually means that a irewall is runng somewhere between the wo computers and is blocking World Wide web servie (HTTP). Windows has confirmed that indows Firewall on this computer is correctly configured to allow this conection. However, a remote firewall mightbe blocking your connection." If you have access to this firewall then configure the firewall to allow connection through TCP port80. If you don't have acess contact your network aministrator or internet service provider. What should I do?

Oct 11, 2008I had just installed Warhammer Online and everything was going well. The following day after i had finished gaming i logged off. From there i was about to click the little red shut down button but it was unclickable. After some time i just released the battery from the back. To see if everything was ok i tried turning it on again and it said Windows Error Recovery. It gave me 2 options, Startup Repair Which was recommended and normal startup. I clicked startup repair but when i did the screen went black and brought me straight back to Windows Error Recovery. No matter how many times i click repair it doesnt work. If i click normal start it just Brings me to the screen where it says Microsoft and there a little green bar flashing over and back as if loading. After some time it goes black and i have to remove battery to turn it off.

Install Setup.exe Run An Error Message
Mar 23, 2008I have Windows Vista Home Premium on my laptop, and I just recently purchased an upgrade to Ultimate. However, when I'm trying to Install it, as soon as I enter the product key during the instalation process, I keep getting these error messages sayin: "Install Windows: setup.exe - Bad Image C:$WINDOWS.~BTSourcespidgenx.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support."
And then once I click OK, it says under the product key "Windows installation has encountered an error and needs to be restarted." I tried restarting the upgrade, and then the computer and the problem still exists. Do anybody have any suggestions to fix this? And what do they mean by "Try installing the program again using the original installation media"?

I keep getting the low disc space on C: error message, and when I click on My Computer, it says I only have 189 MB of free space on the C: drive. However, when I click on the C drive, highlight all the folders, and click Properties, it says I am using 26 GB of space next to "size on disk". I tried to solve this problem about a week ago by moving 30 gigs of music to an external hard drive, but the C drive has filled up again even though I have not added anything to the C drive. I've also tried using disk cleanup and defrag, but that hasn't worked. This seems like a pretty serious problem. What's the deal?

Dec 24, 2008I have three problems which result in the 0x80071a91 error message and seem to be related to transaction support/resource manager. I found several KB articles and comments in this and other forums and tried the various fixes - none work - each is a pre-SP1 fix. My Vista system is: Factory Installed Vista Home Premium 64 bit SP1 with all updates on Gateway 4 core processor and less than three months in use.
PROBLEMS:
1) Attempting to run Backup at the point where the settings are to be saved. KB 939615 - Cannot change the settings for a file backup operation or use the Windows Task Scheduler to change the defrag schedule in WIndows VIsta. Transaction Manager Fix - 0x80071a91 error. Recommended fix is: fsutil resource setautoreset true c:
2) Attempting to delete a task Transaction support within the specified file system resource manager is not started or was shutdown due to an error. (0x80071A91)
3) Attempting to link to on-line error message from the event viewer. Clicking on "on-line event" closes the event manager snap-in
Msesage: Unhandled Exception in Managed Code Snap-n - HRESULT 0x80071A19. "This snap-in performed a non-valid operation and has been unloaded- Exception type: Syustem.Runtime.Interop.Services.comexception - HRESULT 0x80071a91."
A fourth problem may or may not be related - when I try to start Wsearch (Windosw Indexing Services) it stops within 3-5 seconds with the error msgs - 0x80040d23, 0x8007007e (VSS) finally 0x80071a91.and Events ID 1008, 1015, 1004 and 1008.
