Jun 29, 2008The AppData folder doesn't appear in the folder list below c:usersernie. i have the option checked to show hidden folders. What else can it be?

Can Creata A Virtual Folder Appdata Folder
Sep 30, 2009My 'C' drive is a 30GB partition, big mistake. It should have been more like 40 or 50GB partition but I cannot be bothered to format, re-partition and re-install everything. I have about 3GB of COD5 mods in my appdata folder. Can you create a 'virtual folder' in my appdata folder so when the game goes looking for the mods it will find them however the actual files will be stored on another HDD?

Mar 23, 2008I recently installed a game on Vista Home Premium and after uninstalling it I noticed that there was alot of files for the game left in the appdata local folder. I found the folder and it was labeled Ubisoft ( maker of game ) and I was wondering can I delete this folder? also why are things being left in this folder and can I stop that in the future ?

Jul 29, 2009When I'm running Windows Explorer and (single) click on a folder name in the nav panel, the contents are displayed properly in the other panel BUT the folder doesn't expand in the nav panel like it does with XP. To force it to expand I have to click the '+' sign next to it. Is there someway I can make Explorer behave like it does in XP? Am I missing a setting somewhere?

Nov 1, 2008I am moving my Documents , Pictures, and Music folders associated with the start menu on the right side of start menu (under the user pix) to a seperate partition on the hard drive so that it will be easier to back up these files monthly, and also allow me to create an image disk of the os without all the data files being included. Going very smoothly except that I stupidly deleted the music folder after I had moved the files, and now when I click the music tab on the start menu, it no longer directs to where the music files have been moved. The Pictures and Documents tabs work correctly...that is, when I click those tabs on the start menu, I am taken to their new location just fine.
My question is, is there some way to re-create that original Music folder which , when I right-click properties, has the tab for LOCATION which will then allow me to change its location settings so that the Music tab on the start menu can find it ? Seems to be a special type of folder, and if I just create a new one, it does not include the Location tab under properties. I should add that I can create a shortcut and pin it to the start menu, but if possible, I'd like to use the original Music tab on the right side of start menu.
Personal Folder View Doesn't Wrok
Feb 29, 2008Im having some problems with my personal folder. When i go to it all the thumbnails have no information under them: when I go to a folder at a different location it has the information under each large thumbnail: When I go and access my personal folder the "long way" by going to COMPUTER>C DRIVE>USERS>ELENA I can see the information. I have no idea why this happened. I remember I was cutting and pasting things to that folder, but I must have pressed something on my keyboard by accident and the mouse was stuck on select. Then I restarted and this happened. How can I get the text under the large thumbnails to appear again? Going to "View" doesnt work by the way.

May 26, 2008using vista windows mail program it marks almost all incoming e-mail as spam, it does not move them to junk mail folder for which I am grateful I have added senders to safe list and marked not as spam but it still continues to mark as spam how can I get it to stop

May 31, 2008I'm very disappointed that windows mail doesn't support folders in the contact area. I hope some one from Microsoft see this and they reconsider putting a update to re add this feature. I just got this computer and already I want to send it back. I really need folders to keep my contacts sorted. Either add the option or let me download the old Outlook to install. And buying Office outlook is not a option.

Apr 21, 2009I have had Windows Vista 64 for 2 Months now and of that period of time it worked soundly for about 2 Weeks. I am NOT an irresponsible User, I don't just delete Data, I know a little something about computing, I don't visit or download from dubious sites etc.
1) Without any reason software suddently doesn't work.
a) I installed a Antivirussoftware - after 3 Weeks it suddently didn't work any more (Kaspersky) I couldn't reinstall it.
b) I installed a new Antivirussoftware - after 5 days it didn't work anymore.
c) 4 days later I started to get errormessages "Windows Defender doesn't work any more" - "Windows Hostprocess doesn't work anymore"

Jun 2, 2008how to set up the folder options to display the number of subfolders or items when its selected. It used to display in the bottom of the folder window but got disabled. Any folder clicked on would display in a small footer the number of items stored in in and size.

Nov 26, 2009I have several icons/files from my "User" folder showing up in the "Computer" folder (several in duplicate), PLUS numerous blank icons. This seems to have occurred after the Common Files folder became corrupted, after I somewhat riskily decided to power off while Vista was attempting to come out of Sleep mode - it had already taken about 3 mins and I was in a hurry - bad move, I know. That delay appears to have been due to an old version of Online Armor, and has now been fixed (by an update). Chkdsk scanned and (apparently) corrected some errors, and I also ran SFC which said it had corrected some errors but had also found some that it couldn't correct.

For some reason,my Program Files directory has been changed to the Photos directory type, so it changed from the details like file type, size, etc., to rating, photo size, etc.I cannot figure out how to change the directory back to a General file folder type. The toolbar shows things like Slide Show, etc.The sub-directories are all fine and appear as a General type. I'm running Vista Ultimate 32-bit, without SP1.How do I change the folder type back to General?I can't figure out how with this single folder.

Jul 22, 2009I have C & D drives, I use D for mundane filesdownloads and portable apps. However, I have a few folders that's are different from any I've seen. I don't know how to explain it other than using a detailed example.
I have D:Folder1
I can rename Folder1 to whatever I want.
E.g it will appear as D:NewFolder
However the dir location of it still points to D:Folder1
I have also scanned the registry for D:Folder1 and D:NewFolder there are no references of it. I've reformatted the C: drive multiple times and reinstalled windows. So I know it's nothing to this specific windows installation (the folders have been like this for about a year) It's not really a problem, I love it because I can rename the folder without messing up links etc. At first I thought it might be a junction, however in cmd it still shows as <Dir> not <Junction> I also checked for hidden folders on the drive. I found nothing.

Also, when I go to 'Help & support" in the Start button, it defaults to Lenovo (my hardware mfg) instead of Microsoft Windows.

How it got there is a mystery to me since i didn't install it, but some program installed it,apparently,and didn't leave any way for me to uninstall it if i didn't want it. I searched my computer for the easy sticky note program, but it isn't on my computer. I always do a scan of my computer with avast,malwarebytes, superantispyware,and windows defender after finding the ezstickynotes folder for viruses, etc and it always comes up clean.

Apr 15, 2009The contents of My documents folder is displayed in my computer folder, some icons are double and a whole lot of other white icons "empy" files, see screenshot 1. Screenshot 2:
- Right clicking, double clicking on the white files does nothing
- Cannot select them and delete
- Opening a folder takes me to that folder (If i open "Pictures" it takes me to C:UsersNotandiPictures)
- Deleting a folder there deletes it from My Documents too
EDIT: These direcotries are also displayed in the SEND TO: menu, exactly the same as in my computer, but no the empty white files. See screenshot 2
Move Contact Folder Into Window Folder
Oct 20, 2009Sorry, I could not find the correct place to post this. Basically some how I accidently moved my Contacts folder into my Windows folder. Now the Windows folder template has dissapeared and in place of it is the Contact template, when I open it i can add and remove contacts but inside the folder is all of the Windows sub folders. How do I get this back to normal please, I am afraid someone else will hop on my computer and carelesly delete my contacts folder which contains all those subfolders. I did try one result i saw about going into regedit and deleting those "Bag" files but they didnt work.

Mar 23, 2008In my previous email program of choice, Outlook Express, I used to beable to select the "to" function within the email message template and see a display of contacts that included the FOLDERS. In Windows Mail, the same action calls up ALL the contacts and NO folders. ALthough I can select multiple contacts from the Windows Contacts folder and through "action", install them in the "To" pane of an email message, I cannot jump from folder to folder to, for example, select contacts within another folder whom I wish to CC on the same message. The "Action" sequence always generates a new email template, posting any selected contact or contacts to the "To" pane.
I do not wish to create GROUPS and then go through the convoluted process of calling up the group in the "To" pane, and then deleting the ones I don't want. Needless to say, this feature was critical to my email flow and organization. Am I missing something? I have checked every forum and group I can. Others report the same issue without resolution. One forum individual said, "That's the way Windows Mail is".

Mar 3, 2009When i try and change the name of any folder, new or old, i get an error message that says "the file or folder does not exist" . i have tried every registry fix, download, settings change that i can find, and nothing helps. i have tried the fix on the microsoft site as well, but to no avail. if there is any ideas out there as to why the fixes that seem to be working for other people aren't working for me, they would be much appreciated. i am running vista business x 32 on a lenovo laptop. the operating system came preinstalled. i cannot recall any particular event that may have caused this...
