View 5 Repliesi recently formatted and reinstalled windows on my computer and for some reason i have had nothing but trouble since. a run down of my problems, i had 4gb of ram now she will only run on 2gb, she used to be really fast at booting up and shuting down and now i can flick her on and have my breakfast before she has even thought about doing anything. I had a nosey in the event logger and amongst the hundred of errors daily, the one mark BOOT ERROR, is this one.
no viruses, hard drives are defragged and check disked. for the record when she is on she is fine, no problems, just booting up and shutting down it starts playing up
Windows has started up:.............

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running windows Vista Ultimate but have a couple of issues. First one is that I can't start defender at all, I can't update it because windows says it's already part of vista and I can't figure out how to uninstall it. The error message is 0x800106ba. Second issue is that I can't change the windows update settings, I have administrator rights but can't figure out how to change it, the options are greyed out.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThought I would take a break from work and see if there is a good demo to play on my newly installed Vista X64. Came across Painkiller Overdose Demo looked good downloaded it in about 7 mins thought great lets shoot something. Clicked on the demo link in the start menu under games and got the error: Direct3D error: It was not possible to create the Direct3D rendering device. You may need to reinstall DirectX and/or update your graphic card. The graphics card is a Radeon x1950 (AGP) The annoying thing is I bought this like last year not realizing that PCI Express was the next thing and twice as fast. It has the latest Driver from the Radeon site 8-3_vista64_dd_59753.
I didnt realise with the update to x64 that Vista automatically comes with Dx10. The thing is I have a game called Lost Planet Extreme Condition and on XP I would get weird graphic glitches this is one of the minor reasons I updated to Vista, because now when I run the game in Vista it runs flawlessly. This game comes with 2 launch modes LostPlanetDx9 & LostPlanetDx10. When on XP I would launch it with the Dx9 so when I installed Vista I had the game on my other drive so no need to install it, as I do with all my games. Anyway I decided to test it (not knowing at that point about Vista & Dx10) I launched it on Dx9 and it plays flawlessly as I said before
I installed this Demo on the Main Drive. So is it just an incompatibility issue with the Demo or is there some way to play this on the Dx10 Vista? One other thing I am annoyed about is that a while ago I bought GT Legends great game got it to play on my new Sony LCD TV and runs flawlessly on full everything? Also the only game for the pc where the PS2 controller I use through a Super Box 4 (PS2 to PC adapter) worked flawlessly, including the rumble. Well I had the adapter plugged in with the Controller connected and switched on when installing vista (tip for anyone installing vista have all the things you use connected and switched on cause Vista will recognize them saving you the process of hunting for drivers) didnt recognize it. Does anyone know of a driver which I doubt, or even better a replacement to do the same job but on Vista.
Vista Home Premium. Windows defender won't start. Get some error message... 0x800106ba. Also... when I boot all security is turned off. I turn it all on again but when boot again its off again.

The PC tried to install the latest Vista updates (20/2/2008) but upon restart she gets the message "Windows failed to restart - a recent hardware/software change may be the cause - File windowssystem32winload.exe "The selected file could not be loaded". She doesn't have a start in "normal mode" option. I have walked her through trying system repair/restore using the Vista installation Cd, but after trying to restore she gets the message; "system restore failed due to an unspecified error; "cannot create a file when that file already exists" (0x800700b7) We have tried 3 different restore points with the same result.

View 9 Replies View RelatedEvery Windows power user knows the command line is “the place” to get serious work done. The new Start Menu search box in Windows Vista opens the door to a whole new level of command line possibilities. One utility called Start++ extends the Start Menu search box to add even more features allowing you to use shortcuts to launch web sites and processes.
Would you like to search Google from your start menu search box? Just type g followed by your query such as “g tweak vista”. How about doing a quick search on Wikipedia? Type w and your query in the search box. The possibilities are endless because you can create custom shortcuts just like the examples above.
On top of web shortcuts, you can also create application links that will launch an app and open a file. Almost anything is possible with a little customization of the Start++ utility shown below....
I started up my computer and it would show the moving loading bar thing and then it would boot up again in a cycle. I tried to use the command prompt to fix the boot loader. After that, the computer would not load up the opening page with the user accounts and stuff. All it showed was a black screen with a mouse (which i could move). Even more surprising is that the recovery hard drive won't boot up either and the recovery disks don't work either. I tried system restore and it told me that there were no recovery points made.

View 8 Replies View RelatedMy Vista won't start. x64 with service pack 1 I was defragging the hard disk when it suddenly stopped. Rebooting windows normally and it keeps crashing once the log on screen appears. Tried the safe basic safe mode which loads, but the safe mode with networking and command promopt options do not load - windows stops. Tried the vista repair with the cd but that stops too once the 100% bar has completed. Chkdsk fails as well. I haven't tried building a recover disk yet,

View 9 Replies View RelatedBeen having a monitor issue lately ever since I installed SP2 for Vista 64bit. Sometimes when I turn the PC on the monitor goes into immeadiate sleepode (the power button blinks). I don;t even see the BIOS boot screen....nothing...just black.
I sometimes can hear windows loading but nothing is on the screen. At other times I don't hear Windows loading at all.
I'm thinking it's a BIOS problem or maybe even a MB problem.
I would appreciate some help on this. I've never had this problem before SP2
Weirdness continues....managed to get some sort of display happening only to be told my windows system files are corrupted and that I need to do a repair...which I am doing now after several attempts to get the BIOS to boot from the DVD drive
Well I bit the bullet and restarted the PC...dissapointed to say that it's didn;t work.
It seems like the BIOS isn;t loding any basic video nor is windows.
Sometimes it just doesn;t even seem to be booting into BIOS at all.
