I have this problem in which, windows 7 basically locks up the hard drive. Start > Computer > Hard Disk Drives(1) > Local Disk (C: >"Location is not accessible - C: is not accessible - Access is denied."I can access other parts of the hard drive like c:usersetc... but other than that I just can't open drive c: from anywhere or any command, and even in cmd.I have included some pictures.one thing I did notice is that there is no window icon on the hard drive, on my desktop, the there's a little windows icon, on top of the local disk drive c: on top of the share drive icon in the windows explore

Windows 7 Workgroup Not Accessible From Local Machine

Sep 18, 2012

I have 2 PC's, both running Windows 7 Enterprise x86. The main PC has an internal drive and an external USB drive, both of which have shares a plenty. Until yesterday they worked fine. If I type \main-pc (from the main-pc) I can see all the shares but when I try and access them I get the message 'check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network'. The network diagnostic wizard doesn't find a problem. If I type \192.168.72 , which is the main-pc ip, into the run line, it cannot access the workgroup browse list and comes back with the same message about checking the spelling. The second PC can access the main PC shares without any problem at all, including via Ip address. When I ping the netbios name I am returned a valid IP.

Here's what I have done so far:
- Reinstalled the network card, tried another network card.
- Reinstalled client for ms networks and file and printer sharing.
- Completely disabled IPV6 using the DisabledComponents reg fix.
- Ran NETSH resets on winsock and ip stack.
- Reerun the network wizard, renamed the workgroup, changed the PC name, fiddled with homegroup (enabling/disabling), removed security software, disabled the firewall, disabled firewall through policy, uninstalled all windows updates in the last week.

I've used the net view command and can confirm all workgroup services are running. If I type net view I can see my PC..but the problem isn't just accessing my PC, I get exactly the same problem now when I try and access the second PC, which works fine if your on it locally. It could be the server service which the browser service requires, I've paused it and my results don't change but not sure how to troubleshoot that. I've had a go at some reg fixes and modified some security polices but have since put it all back the way it was. Might be worth mentioning I have had a network bridge active between 2 network cards but has never been an issue. I've removed the bridge and tried in both cards separately as well.

What Is The Difference Between Local Disk C And Local Disk D

Feb 3, 2013

What is the difference between local disk C and local disk D? I have about 4 GB space left in C and D is empty. Is there any advantage in putting a system image on D? Are both C and D contained in the hard drive, and if the hard drive goes bad you lose it all anyway?

Windows 7 Has Wrong IP Address On Ping - XP Laptop Not Accessible By Name

Apr 30, 2012

Have read and tried everything here to get my Windows 7 PC to access my XP laptop using its name. Have 3 machines. 1 PC ( ip 192.168.0.102) and 2 XP Laptops (say LXP1 and LXP2), one is ...104 the other, the troublesome one, is ...101. If I ping the machine name: ping LXP2. I get the ping returning with the ip address of the PC (...102). If I try to access LXP2 from Windows 7 PC, in Network in explorer - I am asked for the Password for the share. If I use the ip address 192.168.0.101 in the address bar at the top of explorer ( //192.168.0.101), the shares open and I can access the machine correctly.

Why does ping on the Windows 7 PC return the address of the LXP2 laptop as 102 (the PC's address) but the LXP2 laptop IS correctly configured to have an address of 101 and it open on the PC with this address. This looks to me to be the reason that when trying to open the machine name (LXP2) on the PC in Network in explorer, it fails and askes for a password. The other laptop works perfectly every time. And the 2 laptops can 'see' the shares and access them on the PC. Both laptops can see each others shares and can be accessed. Its 'just' the Windows 7 PC to LXP2 access that appears faulty. I tried disabling 'Network Discovery' and that did briefly work. But this morning - its back to its old self again, will only work when using the ip address...

Remove A Local Disk That Is Not Supposed To Be There?

Jan 6, 2012

Goal: I do not want my computer thinking that there is a Local Disk (I).

Here is a screenshot of my computer
Disks C and D are HARD DRIVE 1
Disk E is HARD DRIVE 2
Disk H is HARD DRIVE 3
Disk I is THE DISK I WANT TO REMOVE and it stems from HARD DRIVE 3
HARD DRIVE 3 = 80GB

I am running on Windows 7 professional, 64but version

"Disk I" was created probably because I installed Windows XP on it a while back (at the time, there was no H partition). After removing it, I could not boot back into my windows 7 because of some missing file. I am assuming that it was looking for a file created by windows XP. So what I did was I unplugged hard drive 3 from my computer, and things were smooth. When I booted back into Windows 7, Local Disk I appeared and I just could not get rid of it. I tried formatting it, but obviously, a dialog box appeared saying windows could not format it (probably because its unplugged). In the windows disk management utility, Drive I did not even appear.

NOW....I plugged that hard drive back in. I deleted the entire partition, so HARD DRIVE 3 turned into unallocated space. I created partition H so I could use for storage, leaving about 20 gigabytes free for an operating system I would like to try out. Disk Management utility shows hard drive 3, with 55GB partition and 20GB unallocated space. Local Disk I is still not represented the disk management utility, but it is still there in My Computer (screenshot above)

Local Disk Management Status Failed?

Sep 19, 2012

I searched the forum and had seen a similar thread , but lost track of it and so i decided to post a new thread. My problem is this-My Laptop hard disk of 500gb shows missing in the Local Disk Management & the status indicates FAILED.It so happened that by mistake I formatted a drive (H: ) using a program WintoFlash. & the problem was i had ran the program from the H: drive itself. So i ended up formatting the H:half way & the laptop restarted. Since then it didnt load the OS.I finally decided to remove the hard disk from the laptop & hook it to a spare computer which i already have . (500gb & Windows 7 installed)I checked My Computer & the drives didnt show up. So i checked the Local Disk Management & found a cross mark on my hard disk. & it showed missing. & status as Failed.his is how it looks:Shot at 2012-09-19Is there anyway i can get my data back?
