when opening folders from desktop computer slows - when task mgr opens it shows explorer.exe at 100% - below is logfile of HijackThis - any help would greatly be appreciated.
Whenever I open my folder with video files win. explorer CPU usage jumps to 50% although I didn't watch any clips When I close the folder CPU usage remains the same and there is no open applications. I am running XP SP3 with all the current updates.
I'm running XP pro SP2. I have a gig of ram and my mother board is an Intel D101GGC. My CPU is Intel Pentium D 920.
If I use Windows Explorer to go deeper than the first level of any tree, CPU usage goes to 100% and stays there. I've disabled System Restore because it wouldn't let me go back in time anyway and this program is a known resource gobbler. Didn't help. I've attached a hijackthis logfile to see if anyone recognizes a Trojan, etc. I would appreciate any help at all.
Alright the last few days my computers been very slow, whenevr i hit ctrl+alt+delete the cpu usage that is is showing oin my computer is 100% is there a vius or spyware that causes this?
This is driving me nuts. The hard drive is constantly being accessed. In task manager I get usage from, services.exe zlclient.exe taskmgr.exe explorer.exe ycommon.exe vsmon.exe system idle process at 98% There are 70 processes from all users. Is this normal or what? I'm very diligent about running Ad-ware and Spybot at least twice a week. I have Avast antivirus and Zonealarm firewall and Windows defender running. I defrag once per week.Windows XP professional, 250 g hard drive, 2g memory.
I have a samll issue on a friends computer, I don't know if he caused it himself or if something happend on it's own. The operating system is Windows XP Proffessional. When I do Ctrl+Alt+Del it opens the Task Manager instead of the Windows Security window(where you can change password, log out, open the Task Manager ect.)
Windows Task Manager shows my CPU usage at 50% when my computer is idle. The only process it shows running is the last one on the list "System Idle Pr..." What is going on here? Also sometimes Windows won't shut down the normal way and I have to just turn the power off. Could these problems be related?
I must use the Task Master to help me to get out of a program that has locked up on me. My PC is very slow now anyway and the Task Master CU usage always shows 100% even though I may not be running any program.
Ive been having problems with my desktop computer. If you open up any program, the CPU usage immeaditely goes from like 0 to 100% and occassionally it will shut down and restart. Such times are when I try to run ad-aware or AVG. It will shoot up to 100%, maybe run for a minute then restart the computer. I cant even delete some files because it just restarts before they delete. So, I tried to do a restore since the last time ive been home when it was working good, about a month ago and it did nothing.
our computer is running slowly. When trying to open programs the hour glass flashes and so do the icons. I ctrl alt del to check my usage and it keeps going up to the high 90's and then back down. I have updated and ran Adaware , spybot and AVG.
I recently got my HP back from Best Buy, where they had to 'clean' it due to spyware, adware problems (no more Kazaa for the kids). Evidently, I had the nail.exe file, in addition to others. After 12 days, they gave it back to me, completely clean (according to them), with Norton Internet Security installed - in the process they lost all my e-mail files, but oh well. Anyway, I haven't had the darn thing back 2 weeks and I'm getting 100% CPU usage, with explorer.exe being the main hog. When I delete it in the processes list, the CPU usage goes down to 4%. I really don't want to take this thing back to BB for them to keep for another 2 weeks.
I am running XP Professional have recently installed Nokia PC Suite 6.6 When I boot up I get an Explorer window opening at D:Program FilesCommon (D is my boot drive). If I remove the software I don't get the Explorer window.
I tried to find the button to shut this off but I can't. The problem is that when I am in explorer and click on any links they open up in firefox. Even in messenger when I click on mail it opens firefox instead of explorer. And so msn takes me to a different page then what it usually does and pisses me off. Also like when I want to do windows update it opens up in firefox so it does not work. I like firefox and use it for almost everything but there is just some thing explorer can do that firefox can't, ie: like update windows. So how do I get it to work like it is suppose to?
Windows has been running really slowly sometimes and i've ran spybot, adaware and a couple others and its still running slow. when i went into task manager it said explorer.exe mem and cpu usage was very high; cpu was 99 and mem was over 100k
My computer is a Dell Dimension 2400, 2.2 GHZ and 256 RAM.is constantly running at 98-100% CPU usage in task manager. I have run ad-aware, spybot, AVG, microsoft antispyware, checked my HJL for an strange occurences, ran chkdsk, This seems to be a pretty large problem, since i've been spending considerable time on the internet trying to find solutions, but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot out there.
Win Xp - Service Pack 2, I suspect the problem lays with a trojan dropper. In fact I'm certain. At the moment I am getting a trojan dropper putting random files into my temp internet files every 3-4 hours - the latest file being SQL.AVG?? Norton deletes it as soon as it appears but I'm certain its causing my 90-100% CPU usage on explorer. exe. Its been doing this for about the last week.
I've got all of these installed - ZoneAlarm, Norton, AVG 7.1, Ad-Aware Se and even Microsoft Anti-Virus. I updated them all and went into safe mode and ran every single one of them on full scan and none have found the culprit. When booted back into normal mode the trojan dropper has started again and cpu usage back up to 100% for explorer.exe. Basically everthing crawls after 5 or so minutes of reboot.
I installed my DVD drive on my HP machine, and now I keep getting an explorer window that opens on Startup to the HP folder. Its innocuous, but annoying.
I'm having some trouble opening my Local Disc (C:). When I go to My Computer and then double click the drive icon, it brings up another window that's just a search window allowing me to search the C drive. Usually when you double click it just browses to whats in the drive, but I don't know what happened. I can right click the icon and select "Explore" and it will work fine, but I do not want to have to do that every time. Is there some option I must have turned off maybe?
An interesting problem has come up recently. If I try to open My Computer to access some file or what not, instead of bringing me to the list of drives, I get a blank white space. It never loads. From here, I can Cntrl Alt Delete and clearly see that the CPU usage is at 100% and that it is Explorer that is taking up 99% of it. I end the task of opening my computer, and then I try again and everything is fine until maybe five minutes later when the problem reoccurs. I have run virus checkers and adaware and neither has shown any problem
Windows Explorer consumes all available memory and cpu time until performance becomes pathetic or the system crashes. I have been running everything from the Task Manager for the past 5 months. I have Dell 2400, Win XP home, Norton AV, Firewall etc, MS anti spyware. Have run every AV scan know to man and MS antispyware and others including Registry editors.
I have been having some major issues with my mouse recently - anytime I so much as move my mouse (clicking does nothing) My CPU usage for Explorer jumps up, immediatly to 50% and if I make any slightly erratic movements, up to 99% It causes major issues in quite a few games, as well as totally screwing up any multitasking I wish to do
My computer started running extremely slow. When I check the task manager it notes that the CPU usage is spiked at 100%. I checked to see what is using most of the CPU and its "explorer.exe" using about 99%.
I am using windows xp pro with a 2.00ghz celeron cpu I also have 2gb of ram, lately my pc seems to be slow and explorer keeps crashing causing the desktop to reload if i look in task manager my cpu is almost always at 100% I have done a virus and spywear check but that found nothing
Does anybody know how to change the folder that Windows Explorer first opens when invoked? Mine defaults to My Documents, which is very large and 99% of the time I don't want, so I would like to change it to My Computer or simply to drive C:
