this never use to happen before, but about 4 months ago, my computer would get these weird yellow bars that would pop up randomly whenever i would scroll down a window.like this.it wouldn't go away after a system restore, and even after a complete reformat it came back in about a month or two.also, i know it's not a monitor problem, because i tried switching out monitors
here's one that has me stumped. My right click option on one particular thing doesn't work. That particular thing being when I choose All Programs and then try to access a program by right clicking on it nothing happens. How I found this was I was going to "Sort by name" and get the programs in alphabetical order but I can't. In every other aspect the right click option works fine.
When I shut my computer down and restart I get errors in outlook express. The pop3 account changes itself to a number starting with 12. When I change it back to pop3.woosh(9etc) it all works normally. But next time I start up its back to the weird number.
When switching between dual and single monitors, how do you save the positioning of the monitors so I do not have to reorient the two monitors under display properties settings?
I have XP SP3, and have recently discovered that when Restarting the system, after logging on, Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird automatically run. There are no shortcuts for them in the Start Up Folder, and they do not start automatically after a complete shut down/fresh start -- only after a restart. After they're up and running, everything works normal.
I have multiple partitions on my HD so that I can have things like the OS and the page file on separate partitions for ease of defrag etc. (OK, haven't done this before and am not sure how smart it was after all)Anyway, I decided to move "My Documents" folder from the C drive to a much larger partition to save fragmentation on C. No big deal, it's easy to do.But here's the kicker... once I'd created a My Documents folder in the larger partition, I decided to click on it and move it to the top of the list of folders, using the My Computer screen.
I have two monitors at home and at the office and both work fine at either place. But when I connect from home to the office via VPN, I can't get two monitors to work. What do I need to do?
if my windows is up for more than 2-5 days and i`m doing a lot of work on it like extracting files and playin games a lot w/ that uptime it reaches a point where my icons wont be displayed properly , and my computer wont open up properly as well some times the windows is total invisible ! its like windows is unable to create image display of windows and icons
light on my recent weird Windows behavior. I'm not getting my sub menus when I rollover my program folders (Start menu>all programs>desired folder). I can see a faint outline of the pop-up that should be there, but nothing is showing.
I have encountered an odd problem in Win XP Pro SP2. When I open 'Control Panel'- 'Add or Remove Programmes', there is a massive gap in the programme list. I have attached a pdf showing the screen at the start & end of this gap, if you look at the scroll bar it will give you some idea of the size of it. It takes about 30 'page down' keystrokes to get from the start to end of the gap. All of my programmes appear to be listed ok & this is not actually causing me any difficulties but I am curious to find out what is causing it
i have a 2 year old pc that i bought with windows xp media center edition 2005 pre-installed and activated. only a week ago, it started asking me to activate windows before i could log in every time i restarted my computer. i would click ok and then it would ask me to activate. i would activate over internet and when it did, it say i have an incorrect product key. i don't know why this happens because the computer was pre-activated and i didn't do anything to my computer when it started happening except played some games. something even more wierd is that 1 in 5 times it boots up perfectly normal without asking me to activate. it is really annoying to have to try restarting my pc until it randomly lets me log in.

Have a Dell Trinitron, with windows xp. Some time ago, after an anti-virus program ran, I could no longer access several icons such as Internet Explorer, Opera, CC cleaner and others. When I click these icons, the message given is "The file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel." Could someone please tell me how to do this? Also, when I restart the computer, a message comes up saying "Windows cannot find file "1"." I think the anti-virus program removed some virus, and a line or two of programming.
Right off the bat, I know I probably (ok I did) downloaded something I should not have in the past and am paying for it bigtime now it seems.Sometimes when I boot up my computer, not everytime, I get an error box stating that xp could not load up a file from the windows/system32/ directory known as spdwnw32.exe . I have know idea what this file is or was and have no clue as to how to get the error to stop
Sometimes when the computer has been running for a while, and especially when I am running a program which switches the screen resolution (so it would seem), the screen will suddenly go blank. Not just black blank either - the colour varies from a sludgy green to a sludgy red, but I've also seen white and black variations of the problem. I've also noticed that just before the login screen appears when I boot into XP, the screen goes to the sludgy red colour for about a second before it seems to recover. The computer does not freeze or become unresponsive - I can still shut down or restart manually using keyboard hotkeys - I just can't see anything other than a single screen of colour.
I have no clue what happened, but I noticed a few weeks ago after a failed Ubuntu install (installer froze while resizing my partition, but I fixed that) that my arrows, checkboxes, and whatnot looked weird. I didn't realize the extent of the damage until I booted into safe mode to defrag my external USB harddrive today. With no visual style, this is what everything looks like (glitches circled in red):a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/peesticks/1604072412/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2357/1604072412_6e64f354ec_o.jpg" width="800" height="600" alt="messedup" /></a>I am running XP Pro SP2 with all my updates. Anyone have any ideas? While the glitch does seem to just be visual, it is quite annoying; it sometimes strips the visual style randomly from a program or dialog box.
I keep having a glitch in windows media player, where the texture seems to be incorrect or somthing... I have no idea what is causing it or what started it in the first place...anyone have any ideas on a way to fix it?...I've tried reinstalling windows media player 10...but it doesn't fix it
I have decided to go with Windows Live Mail, so do not need Outlook Express any more. Question: Can Outlook Express be uninstalled or do I just leave it where it is in All Programs. I know it is interrogated software with Windows XPSP2, so I guess I just leave it be. I had a glitch in the signature area of Outlook Express and when I installed Windows Live Mail, the glitch came over with the importing of everything from Outlook Express....darn it. To describe the glitch.....when I go to attach a signature saved in Windows Live Mail a message appears on the desktop saying WLM has to close as there is a problem with the software. The main reason I decided to install Windows Live Mail was to rid myself of this particular glitch in Outlook Express, but unfortunately the glitch was imported along with all the messages, folders, signatures and options chosen from Outlook Express.
I have a HP dx2200 desktop computer. It has a built-in VGA card.He wanted to use two monitors so he put in a PCI (or PCI Express card, can't remember which) but it's not working. The only card the system sees is the built-in card.I not getting any error messages or anything.Going into Device Manager shows that the system sees only the built-in graphics card and nothing else.i have done this on several other computer's,though none of them have been dx2200's, and haven't had this problem so this is a new one. Any thoughts?
I am trying to use two monitors in xp and i cannot see how to display my photos as a slide show on my second monitor it shows it on my laptop monitor but not on my second monitor i want to show my slide show on the second monitor while i work on my laptop suggestions?
i plugged in my secondary monitor and my primary quit working, now the secondary shows the screen but my primary just has a box floating around that says self test feature check... i just want more work space, can someone help me?
I'm using a Sony laptop and have an external screen attached. I've set up XP to use both the external and built in laptop screen and also checked the "Extend my Windows desktop on to this monitor". This all works ok with one exception.
As I sit in front of my laptop the external monitor is to my left. In order to get the mouse on to the external display (on my left) I have to drag my mouse pointer to the far right of the laptop display.
I've tried making the external monitor the primary display but this doesn't help me either.
Is there a way I can tell XP that I want the mouse to move to secondary display when I drag the it to the left hand side of my primary display?
i have a pc with 2 ports for monitors i am using the dvi ouput to my plasma tv (through a dvi to 15 pin converter) which works fine. however i cant seem to get my other 15 point outlet to work.
I am assuming i have to activate some sort of dual monitor software? I am using xp basically how do i use 2 monitors simultaneously
I am trying to run duel monitors on my pc I am running xp pro and I have a 1.8 cpu with 768mb of ram with 120gigs of hard drive space rewritable cd player and I have installed two video adaptors. The first one is NVIDIA GeForce2 mx/mx400 (Microsoft Corporation) this is the one that came with the computer.I just installed is ATE Technologies INC. mach 64 CT PCI video adapter. The computer recognized the second video adaptor but can not seem to install it properly the device manager shows the both of the display adaptors. The one I just installed has the problem it has the yellow explanation point next to it. Windows can not find the correct drivers I am guessing and it doesn't show up in the display properties dialog box.It shows a code 10 the device can not start. "whatever that is."

I'm using a HP laptop with a second monitor. When I disconnect the extra monitor, programs still "load" on that system. How do I move them back to the laptop display.
I have read my motherboard manual and I found out that I have the ability to use dual monitor support.
I used it on another laptop that I had and it worked well except the screen resolution changed and I had to reset it.
I now want to use dual monitor support on my desktop computer for power points and other things but I think i may need a DVI to VGA adaptor which I might buy. Is this the right thing to do. Will I need anything else apart from this adaptor? I can see a DVI port apart from my VGA port in my pc.
I don't have the connectors mentioned in the motherboard manual. (pg18 under graphics card)

I can see a DVI port apart from my VGA port in my pc.
After I get that part right can I run extend my tasbar and desktop onto that monitor.
I have a Dell Lattitude C840 laptop with an Nvidia video card installed by Dell.
Whenever I plug into a LCD projector and activate my external monitor the dual monitor feature comes on and I cannot disable it.
Some times I want to run dual monitor with the laptop (such as for lectures), however, sometimes I want what appears on the laptop screen to be the same as on the projected image.
I have tried going into the Display Properties and Settings to disable the second monitor and when I do all that happens is that I go back to only seeing my laptop's monitor and nothing on the projector. When I activate the external monitor the dual monitor feature kicks on again.
It never used to do this and I am not sure what changed on my system. suggestions?
