View 7 RepliesThis is a great forum and has been a great resource. Now, I need to ask for some help. (I hope this is the right forum. Didn't seem like a hardware issue and doesn't seem software-specific.)Ive searched on Techguy, several other forums, and Googled to find a fix to the problem, without any luck. Gateway Tech support did not have any ideas, other than doing a full system re-install, which I would like to avoid. Heres the lowdown: Program screens will begin to autoscroll a few minutes after being open. Its not really a smooth scroll. Kind of jerky and a constant up-down, up-down. Sometimes a full screen, sometimes only several lines at a time. If I put the mouse pointer on a frame or a toolbar of the window, the scrolling stops. If I move the cursor to the screen within the frame to click a link, edit text, or open an email, the autoscrolling starts. It does not happen if the open application only has one screen of data and it does not happen on the desktop. It happens in Outlook, Firefox, IE6, Word, and Excel. I have not noticed it in Kasperskey, Skype, or Spysweeper. I did not notice the problem when I booted into Safe Mode to re-install drivers (but I may not have been in the screens long enough for the problem to start).
The problem began on Sunday when I was in a Citrix Metaframe session (provided by my employer). The open applications in the Metraframe window began doing this autoscroll. I logged off, rebooted and tried logging back on. Citrix wouldnt allow me to log on, and I began having the scrolling problem with programs on my PC. Our IT dept. says there is nothing wrong with Citrix and no one else had this problem. What Ive done: Re-installed updated video drivers; re-installed MS Office; tried several system restore points; run: Kasperskey, Spysweeper, HJT, Ewido, Spybot, Adaware, and Symantec online all came back clean; tried different electrical outlets; unplugged everything else on the circuit; checked the USB plugs for the keyboard/mouse; checked for latest mouse/keyboard drivers; tried changing the monitor refresh rate.
latelly i'm having some problem with blue screens more this:

I need major help. First please bear in mind that this ole lady is like a kindergartner in the school of computers.I've been getting booted off usually a "windows has encountered a problem, and needs to shut down to prevent damage to your computer" screen comes up......but not always.lso, I'll get booted off and a blue screen comes on with message. When this happens, I push the button to restart and it'll come back on, but sometimes I'll hear clicking sounds and the blue screen will come back. It also will just lock up occasionally.

What i did :

- cleaned the PC interior ( really good )
Nothing worked

Using Win XP pro. 220 plus HD Space, 1.5 Gig Ram, AMD 2000 Procesor. I'm not sure how to describe this? I'm getting a wavy motion when moving a window, entire picture, etc. I've replaced the video board, same specs as the one that was in the PC. This did not help. Also, the board/drivers do not show up in device mgr. Seems strange to me. Hope some one can shed some light on this problem.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI use several different programs simultaneously, some of which web-based and open within Internet Explorer. So that I can work more efficiently, I want some programs to open in the first screen and some in the second. Is there a utility that exists that looks at the title of the window being opened, and opens it in the user-defined screen? So, if I want outlook to open in the second screen, the program would see "Microsoft Office Outlook" in the window title, and then send it to the second screen when I open Outlook?

View 14 Replies View Relatedits been almost a year since this problem began, where my computer randomly gives me blue screens, I do not know what they say, because they come and go too fast, and even still, I would not understand them. I've tried system recovery which didn't help and even tried reinstalling windows, but don't think I deleted/reformat the paritions before reinstalling windows again, so there might be some malicious data still hanging around, not sure as I do not know anything about computers,

View 3 Replies View RelatedYesterday, my computer crashed, and it's left me unable to boot Windows XP (SP2), either normally or in Safe Mode. The root of the problem, I've gathered, is SPTD.sys, which is for some reason choosing now to present me with boot difficulties. The problem I have is, since I cannot access Windows XP in any mode, how can I tell BIOS to simply not load this file? From what I gather, it's used for Daemon Tools, which I no longer use, so it wouldn't adversely affect anything, correct?

Ever since I bought my laptop (Acer Aspire 5930G), I have been getting blue screens (BSODs) that seem to be linked with the Intel wireless network adapter that came pre-installed in it. Whenever the WiFi is turned on from the button on the front of the laptop, a BSOD will appear at a random point in time (usually, between a few minutes and a few days after it has been switched on), regardless of whether I am actually connected to a WLAN network or not. On average, I get a BSOD every other day or so. If the WiFi is turned off from the button, then no BSOD ever appears.
The error codes that the BSODs indicate vary, these are just some of what I have received:
- 0x0000007f (0x00000008, 0xbab30d70, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
- 0x0000007f (0x00000008, 0xb8330d70, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
- 0x0000007f (0x00000008, 0x80042000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
- 0x100000d1 (0xa483a671, 0x00000002, 0x00000008, 0xa483a671)
After analysing some of the minidumps generated by the BSODs with WinDbg, the following files were indicated as possible culprits, all of them having to do with Internet connectivity (Intel driver of firewall):
- NETw5x32.sys
- fwdrv.sys
- NDIS.sys....

I do a Hard Disk scan from MY Computer, properties of c drive, tools check both boxes there and restart. still had problems after that.I download my Hard Disk utility program, and have it do its thing, including a surface scan that took an hour.So then I figure it must have been the fresh install hang. I'm thinking here, the obvious problem is that I took a Windows XP installation and changed all the hardware on it and it didn't have the drivers for it. I attempted to run the recovery console from a Windows XP installation disc and it asked me for the administrator password. I have in house service but they said my hardware was good and that it was my operating system and that would cost 300 to fix so i still have the problem. I thought i would be real smart and just upgrade by hard drive and reload my windows xp drivers and application but that did not work. It freezes up when it loads up on the desktop screen before i do anything. The mouse and keyboard lose power and i have to hold in the power button for about 10 sec. for it to shut down.
