When I logon to the computer I keep getting a windows error message. I keep clicking on OK and it does not come right back but after a couple of minutes or even a couple of hours it comes back. Listed is the error message that I keep getting.

a message keeps popping up saying the following: Cannot load dialog. Error 623: The system could not find the phone book entry for this connection. All I can do is click the close button and it goes away and nothing else seems to happen, but it pops up again in a few minutes.

I can't get anywhere into Windows, I've done F2, F8, F12, everything I could think of without risking more damage. I've booted from the system mechanic CD with the Hard Drive recovery, and while it said it found and fixed a problem, it didn't fix this one.
My moms computer is having issues starting up. It takes an extremely long time to boot up.It says windows is starting up.It takes a good 5 minutes to get to the page where she would normally enter her user name and password.Once you type in the password, it takes another 5 minutes before another log on message appears saying The system cannot log you on now because the domain is not available.I have tried logging in under safe mode, but the same log on to windows box always appears asking for her user name and password.I can't even get past that screen to get onto windows.The desktop was built for her by an ex bf of mine, and is currently running on windows 2000 professional.We do not have any disks to restore it.Plus she has a whole bunch of graphics and work she does not want lost.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy computer won't let me use the system restore function.It won't let me run or install programs.And if I try to a small black window pops up for a second than goes away.If I connect my computer to the internet a message pops up two minutes at the most later saying that windows has suffered a huge error or something and needs to shut down.And in the message a counter goes down from forty second than my computer restarts.That only happens if the internet is connected.

I got back from class today and my computer was frozen. I forced a reboot. When it tries to load windows XP, I get an error message that says: Operating System Not Found Can/Should I load with the boot disks? I CAN NOT loose the info on my hard drive.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install Windows XP Home Edition on my computer to replace Windows Vista but have a problem. After booting from the CD Windows setup happily inspects the hardware etc etc but upon the Message 'Windows is starting up' I am confronted by a BSOD and Error message 0x0000007b. Windows Vista currently runs fine and reports no problems with any hardware. I tried booting up a Linux distro and it did this quite hapily. Any workarounds for this situation? Is there a BIOS option i should be looking at changing or is my hardware too new for Win XP

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy friend goes to college and is home for the holidays and asked me if I could find out what is wrong with his laptop.First you turn it on and there is a constant clciking noise but that I don't think is the main problem. when you turn it on it doesnt boot it goes right to a black screen with whitle letters and says this Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key Could I person put in an xp pro system disk and boot with that? He isn't home right now and I don't know if it is xp home or pro but I have a pro disk, it has not got a floppy drive so can't use floppies to boot with, So can I set the BIOS to boot from the cd-rom and try the xp pro disk? and if so what do I do after it boots? or can I click on I think it is F10 when starting and see if I can get to system recovery? and if so what do I do after I get there?

On the newest one, after much trouble and with the help of others, I got everything to update and download:On my system with XP Home, I get the following error message when I go to the update site and SP downloads fine but fails to install and gives the same error message as follows: "The file c:windowssystem32smss.exe is open or in use by another application. Close all other applications and then click retry."No other applications are ever running when this occurs and I am baffled by it. Anyone got any ideas how to fix this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows XP with SP 2 and when I try to load certain software that use to run on an older PC with 98 SE I get a message saying 16 bit windows subsystem C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS_DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close@ to terminate the application. What does this mean and is there a way round this as some of the software used to load and work okay on this PC but has been uninstalled but cannot now ne installed. This happens with a number of software packages.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Dell XPS Gen 3 from 2004 underwent a serious issue when I installed Kaspersky Internet Security resulting in BSoD when I booted computer. Long story short, I had to buy a replacement HDD as the original drive fell and now only plays music (Took it out to extract important files, all save, but when troubleshooting it back on PC with the recovery console it fell).
On my PC I had two extra HDDs, one at 170gigs for music/pics and some apps and a 500 gig for media and some apps. I unattached both those HDDs when I did a fresh install of XP Home Edition on my Dell XPS. After that install seeing everything loads and works as expected I powered down PC and attached my other two drives to get an Error Loading OS.

The Pc can lauch the boot process ( asking you to press F10 to access the Boot Menu or F2 for the Bios Settings) then the operating system, but some how the above error message always closes the process up.
