All of a sudden this afternoon, no sound coming out of my computer. Not sure how or why? Volume is up on speakers, and they are carefully plugged in. Volume control on the task bar is up and not muted. Legacy audio drivers seem to be working fine.
View 3 RepliesThis evening I was using my netbook to listen to music offline, which was working perfectly well. I then closed the lid, which sent it to sleep, and upon opening it again, everything was going very slowly.
I re-booted the computer, which then took several minutes longer than usual to boot (whilst not booting quickly normally, being a low-powered machine, was a significant length of time longer amounting to around 2 or 3 times longer than normal), and the machine was still incredibly sluggish. It is also now unable to play audio files properly, it plays the first part perfectly coherently and then begins to lag more and more as the media continues. (The same occurs on any video files of any king played in any form)
this has happened only once before...last week...but since it was fine after a while, i didn't bother about it.But it happened today too...was working on some stuff and suddenly-poof!!!!shutdown..have no clue what caused this...But i think this may have been due to overheating..not sure.. One more thing--my system makes this never ending background noise whenever it's on...it's comparatively more noise than what my friends' system makes.Is this worth worrying about?

I mean one second I'm working away and the next it's booting up as though someone flicked the switch off and on again really quickly. When it starts up it shows the message "Windows has recovered from a serious error". It happens when I doing 3d work, burning a dvd, listening to music or even opening a document. It's not and never was connected to the internet.
I have a Dell inspiron 1300 which had started to run slowly and take an age to get past the black windows loading page when i booted up. So i decided to use the built in dell software to wipe it clean and revert back to the factory/straight out the box settings. This all went well but now i have no sound what so-ever in windows. I used the diagnostic program you can find by pressing f12 when booting up and in that i could hear music from the speakers but then when i booted up windows there were no sounds at all?

Wmp 9 came with xp home I update to wmp11 and both 9 & 11 will not play avi I tryed to install wmp10 after I rolled back wmp11 but windows told me I cannot install it so I tryed to in stall wmp classic and that cannot be installed either can any one please help with how to turn sound on I have cheeked in control panel sounds to make shore every thing is turned on & no mute buttons are on all looks

View 7 Replies View Relatedi am getting an error message everytime i go to play an mp3 file on windows media or any other player its saids it can't find any sound card devices. plus i'm not getting any sound from Internet or any other sites that play audio files. i checked the driver of the sound card in the device manager and it looks fine. i even uninstalled it and reinstall and nothing still. it's a laptop dell lattitude d600 i believe.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm about ready to beat my head into a wall.I've got an onboard sound card that has not worked since I formatted my computer (Win XP Pro SP2). The device has the latest drivers from the manufacturer installed, it's enabled in Windows and the BIOS, the Audio Codecs are there, the Windows Sound service is running, thd driver reports no problems at all and yet, No Audio Devices are found when I go into Sounds and Audio Devices in the Control Panel. I've tried installing another sound card in there too, which installs fine, but still isn't selectable as an audio device. What the heck could I be missing here?

The error message, 'There are no active mixer devices available. This is only to be used on HP Consumer PCs preinstalled with Windows XP. Your PC does not meet this requirement, so update is being aborted. but my PC was preinstalled with Windows i've just had to reinstall it again!
my win xp computer is not producing which thro internet.other wise i use vlc player to listen to music.it works fine.but when ever i try to use gtalk or Internet..the sound does not work.help me regarding this problem.
View 14 Replies View Relatedjust recently experienced a no audio problem on my computer. Originally had a c-media card installed with everything working ok , then suddenly no sounds at all. Removed card and installed spare Sound Blaster Audigy and downloaded latest drivers. Everything installed ok. No conflicts in Device Manager, proper card identified in control panel/sounds. Windows sound on reboot , but after reboot nothing again. After countless removal of sound card in Device Manager and re-installing drivers , no change. Removed card and re-verted back to on board audio. Realtek high definition audio with latest and original cd AC-97 drivers. Now no audio device available in Control panel/sounds. Within the Realtek HD Audio Control panel I can test speakers and hear sound ok.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI own at Pentium 4 XP Home Edition PC. Recently, I lost all of my default system sounds--like boot up sound and closing sound. The sound card is okay, because I can play CDs, listen to Real Player and otherwise get sounds.I have gone into the sounds and audio devices properties panel and don't seem to be able to set it to play the sounds. The test button works the sounds fine, but I cannot actually activate them.I have troubleshooted by surfing the web, installing various supposed registry fixes. I have also read the Microsoft data base articles that seem to pertain. SO FAR NOTHING HAS HELPED.Can anyone suggest what I do short of reinstalling Windows? I don't want to take that drastic step!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been noticing that whenever I reboot my computer, or even at random intervals, that the wave portion of the volume menu goes to zero and it makes the sound on my computer go very quiet. I can move the wave dial back to the max and everything works alright, but I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on why this would be happening. I am running the onboard sound which is nvidia based, but not sure if there are any more current drivers than what I am running.

I have outdoor speakers which when I used WinME I would simply unplug the desktop speakers and plug the outdoor speakers in (its wired). Anyway, i could hear all my tunes out by the pool etc.Now when I unplug the desktop speakers and plug in the outdoor speakers. some sound thing (RealTek HD Audio Manager) pops up and asks to check line out, line in, etc. I went through that process and still no sound outside.

Techniquely I had no sound before I reinstalled and thats because I updated my bios and then .(I have a dell dimension 9100 and sound blaster audigy ZS sound card.) Which, obviously, forced my to reinstall. after the reinstall I rolled back my bios from D9100A03 to A01. At this point, My computer said I had no sound card so I update my drivers to the latest version. My computer now recognizes the sound card, but there is no sound. The only time I ever here sound is at start up with the windows welcome jingle. But it plays for like 2 seconds and then just completely turns off. Its almost as if my sound card gets over taken by something else.

The other day I was uninstalling a piece of software that I had downloaded and wasn't paying attention as I clicked through the prompts and inadvertantly uninstalled it and the sounds for my computer. My compuer 'appearance' is stuck in 'Classic Windows' and my Sound Blaster Live isn't working (I have no sound now). This is just what i've noticed, so far. I've tried many times to boot back into normal mode, using various methods, and while everything seems to be working as they normally do (with the exception of sound), the 'Classic Windows' appearance remains the same. I've also reinstalled my SB Live several times, yet it still won't come on when I boot my computer, it just offers a diagnostic test which I fail, It asks me to reinstall, yet it does the same thing
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am really hoping that one or a few of you can help me with my issue. Back in June, I reinstalled Windows XP Professional on my computer. Previously, the PC kept freezing, saying Windows Explorer error, etc. Unable to do any work at all on my computer without it freezing, I reinstalled Windows. Problems solved. Except now, since then, I have had no sound at all coming from my speakers! I am missing the audio drivers, I think. Finally, yesterday, I downloaded Realtec AC 97... and now I can hear things opened on Quicktime from the internet, but cannot hear any sounds from websites or other programs I have on my computer. The little speaker control, that is usually displayed permanently in the right hand corner of the Windows toolbar, doesn't show up. I still have Volume Control on my computer...but of course cannot hear anything.Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do? I've tried unplugging the speakers and then plugging them back in to no avail. I don't think I have the installation CD for the speakers anymore, as I got them a few years ago. But if I did have them, is that how the drivers would be reinstalled?
