View 5 RepliesIs there a way to make applications start with a higher then usual priority automatically? I routinely run video encoding in the background which will eat up both the cores on my Opty 170. As expected, this makes certain things sluggish to use. But, I wanna make it so the applications that I actively use (Firefox, MSN, and AIM) have an above normal priority.

View 8 Replies View RelatedThis tweak will launch most executables with the priority setting you want it to have. Let's say you have a game installed called HIGH NEEDS and the executable is called HN.exe. Here's what to do. Create a new textfile in the game-app wathever-directory (let's say C:HN), but instead of giving it the .txt extension you name it HN.bat-Right-click this file and choose 'Edit', you'll see it'll open notepad. Put this line in:cmd /c start /High HN.exe-Save (make sure you save it as .bat, not as .txt) and close. Now create a shortcut to this file and place it on your desktop. Every time you doubleclick this shortcut HIGH NEEDS will open with priority set to 'high'. (ofcourse you can also create a batchfile on your desktop, containing the full path of the app you want to start but the nice thing of creating a shortcut is you can give it an icon).

Windows has setup a system controlled hiearchy which is notably called the Priority System. By increasing a programs priority, the task manager tells the system to pay more attention to it, by feeding it RAM and optimizing that program to use the system cache more effifiently. Lets explore into the wonderful world of priorities.1.)

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just recently deleted a folder that i wasn't supposed to delete inside my EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE. Inside that folder were 2 other very important sub folders. It was over 8 gigs so when i deleted it, i unfortunately commited the same mistake of pressing the "yes" button again when it asked the files to bypass the recycling bin being permanently deleted from the computer. In fact it happened so fast it seemed like it vaporized. It was hard to believe that over 8 gigs of files were eliminated that fast, whereas usually any big file i would delete would normally take a while for the computer to process

View 14 Replies View Relatedwhy do people say that they have deleted a file from their computer but if someone has enough knowledge or certain forensic software they can still retrieve this file that was supposably deleted. If they can retrieve it then it is not deleted. and when the file is supposably deleted but still in your computer is there a difference in the space that it takes in hidden areas of your computer. I would imagine that they would be compressed or something else.

View 1 Replies View RelatedYesterday my pc decided to give me a bit of grief. I loaded up the pc and went to click into My Documents and found the whole computer just free up. I restarted the pc thinking it was just messing me around, intending to do a defrag and virus scan to make sure (Norton 2010 internet security). To my horror, the pc wouldnt move past the Windows XP boot logo, it just sat there with the loading bar moving across the screen as if it was permantnly trying to load.
I reset again hoping to start it in safe mode, however upon doing selecting "Start In Safe Mode" it went through to a black load screen with white writing and populated the screen with loads of text about how it couldnt load specific windows files located on a partitioned part of the hard drive (that I load the OS on).

I seriously doubt the worst here, and i have tried about 4 data recovery programs that were only able to detect the very main folder that was deleted but not the more important 2 subfolders inside of it containing the big chunk of the data. I've even been able to detect files that were deleted months ago through these programs, but not the important 8 gigabyte chunk i just deleted an hour ago. By the way i tried scanning both the C rive(main) and the external hard drive and browsing through the :/recycle folders, but to no avail
