Running XP1 Which Does Not Have Access To Internet
Apr 29, 2005
I have a computer running XP1 which does not have access to the internet. I received an xp2 disk in the post and tried to update the computer. Unfortunately, after going through the lengthy update process, the computer freezes - after a couple of opening pages the 'running blue beads' sequence opens up and freezes. Can anyone advise me what to do please - as I can't access my computer at all.
I am using Windows XP and have wireless internet access.....for some reason my connection has become slower than that of dial up. My daughter recommended I visit this site for help
After long periods of my internet connection being idle (2+ hours usually), all programs requiring internet access are unable to connect. By idle I mean I leave to run some errands with no programs other than Zone Alarm running. My DSL modem still has all lights flashing and active. There are a couple other scenarios where this occurs as well. Ex. I'm playing WoW for extended periods but not using the internet through any other program, then upon alt-tabbing no other applications are able to connect to the internet even though WoW is still connected and functioning. Rebooting the router/modem doesn't fix it, but rebooting the comp does.
I think that I have a virus which is stopping me from 1) Installing Norton Internet Security 2005 properly, and 2) Stopping me from accessing all anti-virus related sites, for example - www.symantec.com, ww.grisoft.com, www.pandasoftware.com, and when i tried to download AVG 6.0 from another site which was unrelated to antivirus, I found that I could access the site but the download failed.
a pc with windows xp pro suddenly started not to access the internet or the workgroup it normally worked on. ethernet card is present in hardware devices, network connection says it "is there", the IP numbers etc. are all as they were.I have even tried a rollback to the time it worked fine, but no net
computer in my possession crashed, and when i reset, my internet has gone wonky. I use MSN as my ISP, and before, i could access internet explorer, or firefox, or any program without ever actually having to sign in to MSN. after the crash, however, i now have to sign in to access internet explorer, firefox, and a couple programs. what angers me, however, is that i DONT have to sign in to access trillian. Limewire, also, will connect, but wont download anything without msn being logged in. How do i get back to how it was? And no, system restore did not work.
After removing Musicmatch from my computer I cannot access my CD or DVD drives. I've read (Microsoft Knowledge Base) that after removing CD writing programs that this sometimes happens and that some changes need to be made in the registry. It is stressed that a backup of the registry should be made before making any changes to the registry . . . AT YOU OWN RISK. My question is - how big is the registry - can I backup to a floppy or USB Flash drive or should I put the backup on my hard drive? Also, if there is a problem with the registry now, would it be silly to back up a registry that is not correct I am running XP Home Edition - "Backup" is supposedly on my XP CD but I'm not able to use CD drive

I bought this new computer about 6 months ago and up till now no problems. I have Windows XP and now Internet usage is running ver very slow. It seems the green line on bottom takes for ever to go across. I know I only have dial up service (I know my son says i need cable but i don't want to spend any more money on Internet) but it has never run this slow before.
I get random popups that inform me I don't have security whatever, and I'm sure it has nothing to do with any of the AV programs I have. I posted a thread about 4 days ago about task manager after recovering from a worm, but I'm not sure it's completely gone. I've tried the following: avast! antivirus Norton Antivirus (14.0.0.89) Adaware Spybot Search and Destroy Mcaffee Stinger. and none of them have turned anything up.
trying to visit website that i visit the most frequently it takes forever for the browser to go to that site or for the site to even load. I ran spybot search&destroy as well as ad-aware, and deleted what it found, then i shut down my computer and installed updates as it was shutting down. when it started again, its still running very slow to some sites but if i go to website that i don't often go to
I have an intel pentium 4 running on windows XP.My computer is terribly very slow! I have performed full scans with mcafee, but I might have malware or viruses.
When I run IE, Outlook or several other applications, which I can't run at the same time or the computer works forever to do anything, my CPU usage jumps to 100%. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
Last weekend, my internet conection at home got really slow, for no reason at all. After contacting my internet provider, they were saying that my conection had no rpblem at all.I decided to conect my notebook in the same cable, always direct out of the modem, and for my surprise, it was totaly normal there, downloading from my referece server at 600 Kb/s. Conected my desktop back...and the problem persisted, couldnt dowload at more them 20 Kb/s from the same server.
I downloaded a bunch of stuff on this computer and I don't know what all I need to get rid of. The computer is running really slow and Internet Explorer keeps getting redirected.
My computer runs very slow and I notice that on my computer properties it say I have 37.2BGB and 31.2used with 6.04free. My question is would this cause my computer to run slow.
I HAVE HIGH SPEED INTERNET. MY COMPUTER HAS BEEN WORKING FINE, UNTIL TONIGHT. IT IS GOING ONLINE AND OPENING WEB PAGES SUPER SLOW. I HAVE FULL VIRUS PROTECTION, SO I KNOW IT'S NOT THOSE. I HAVE DELETED ANY LARGE, UNUSED PROGRAMS.
I've got something going on with my Laptop, but I can't put my finger on it. For the last few weeks, the PC has slowed to a sluggish crawl and now I'm getting C++ Debug Errors while running Internet Explorer.
I will be more specific with the Error code the next time it happens
My IE7's been running really slow starting this past week. I don't know what the cause is exactly. I can't figure out if it's the IE software on the PC or if it has something to do with the internet connection. I've run the following to diagnose my problem: NAV 2007 - No Viruses Webroos SpySweeper - No Spyware Optonline speedcheck Utility (when I can get it to run) - the results are very good 13-15mbps down and ~1.5mbps up. I would've posted this last night, but I couldn't get the page to load and even the optonline homepage sometimes wouldn't load. Also, I've noticed that images aren't loading onto the web pages. Just getting a box with an "x" in it. Don't remember if that is an IE security setting that i just need to allow or a an invasion to my system. I reset the IE7 settings to clear anything within IE, but that just made me lose my settings and IE still ran slow and inconsistently. I've checkd the ADD/Remove list and the list of folders within the program files folder and I've found nothing bad has been installed on the sly. Not really sure if this is a problem with optonline's signal or if I've gotten something on my PC that just isn't getting found by NAV and spysweeper. I'm trying to hold off on restoring my system image file, but if I must. I'd like totry to diagnose this if I can.
I just Installed Windows XP X64 onto my desktop PC and cannot access the internet. My graphics is not displaying like it's supposed to, and the sound isn't working. The graphics, and sound I can figure out myself, but the internet I've come to a brick wall. I have a 1394 connection, but there's no local area connection. I'm at a wall, I'm using a linksys router and I get no I.P. address. I've tried going directly from the modem to the PC, and powercycling my modem, and still nothing
I have a problem with a second computer connecting to the internet. I have had my adapter checked and was told it was ok. I have ran the second computer directly into the dsl connection and it still will not allow me to connect to the internet. The only error message I have received is at boot up and it says SymSPort.exe error has occured and needs to close.
