View 7 RepliesIs there any reason the hosts file should not block sites properly?Certain sites I have put in there aren't being blocked, and this is a problem. Also, does it only block the major site (just the www.badsite.com) and not all subdomains of that? (for example "signup.badsite.com")

View 7 Replies View Relatedwhen out of no where, I received those weird progams on my PC which are those fake Virus scanners and such. i then deleted it from the source, and ran my Nortan scan and my spysweeper, and they found nothing wrong with my pc. Now, the PC will NOT let me go to "important" sites. For example, Bank of America, Paypal, anti-virus sites, Ebay, etc. But will let me go to sites like Myspace or forums. I had my favs on my toolbar as tiles so its easier to access them, i had about 10 of them, and now only 5 remain after the whole thing happened, and the 5 that were removed were "important" sites. Almost every thing on my tool bar was removed, including File, Edit, View, Tools, and such. My search engine is still displayed though.
View 3 Replies View RelatedOne of the kids downloaded rapid antivirus and it's screwed everything up. I've managed to get rid of therapid AV, but it looks like I've got some malware/adware of some sort running. Attempts to get to symantec, mcaffee, avg, etc give site not available results in IE 7 - includes techguy.org!!!!, but non-"fixit" sites like google and everything else in the world I can get to. Every few clicks, the url is redirected to an ad site. I've run adaware and trendmicro which found Troj_vg_fcx and removed it, but the problem persists.

NOW, i see more and more being added every few hours/day. there are currently four of them running right now.
i think my rundll32.exe file got deleted and i tried downlaoding it again but that didn't work. I looked in system32 and it shows its there but the icon is a piece of paper, not a .exe icon, and it is preventing me from running programs, uninstalling programs and downloading anything. What do I do?

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, and returning to an older set of drivers. No luck. While in safe mode I get the same error. On a potentially related note, attempting to access system performance settings from system properties also gives the same error.Otherwise everything else on my system appears to be working perfectly fine.
View 11 Replies View RelatedMy task manager says a program called rundll32.exe is running, and I don't think that should be running in Windows XP, which is my operating system. It is not running on my wife's computer, which is also running Win XP. I have ran AVG free edition scans on my system both in regular windows and in safe mode, and it comes back virus free. I have also ran Panda on-line scan in windows but it also shows the computer to be virus free. Have an anti-trojan program on my machine, called The Cleaner, that also shows no infection. However, that rundll32.exe is in the taskbar and I don't believe it should be there. I am including a copy of my hijack this log if it will be of any assistance.

Norton 2005 says it doesn't seem to be harming my sysetm, but my stsem has seemed to be slowing lately. Also, on my Ctrl + Alt + Delete it says rundll32.exe is running at startup. Should it be running at startup, and how do I know if I have the Trojan or not?
