Popped Up - Inf File Open Failed
Sep 6, 2008Recently tried to install a program and when it tried to load the drivers it popped up that the inf file open failed....click to exit. What or how to I repair the inf file thingy?

Computer Crashing - Open Program - Application Failed To Initialize
Apr 23, 2008I'm using Windows XP on a home computer. My computer keeps crashing. It locks up and I have to pull the plug. If I'm in a forum, lines of type start disappearing. If I'm trying to open a program I get an error message like "application failed to initialize." Yesterday I got a Runtime error message: "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."
I ran Trend antivirus program and Webroot spysweeper, but no problems identified. I keep getting messages from Bigfix that a problem was encountered but by then I can't get Bigfix to open because it's locked up. I ran a dxdiag but it showed no problems either. The problem started when I ran the Uniblue registry sweeper which I thought was free. It identified some old stuff but charged a fee to fix it, so I deleted Uniblue. I went into regedit and removed Uniblue and while I was there I removed several old games from Gamehouse that had been uninstalled over the past year. I swear I didn't touch anything else in the registry! Please keep responses simple and specific as I don't know much about computers.
I just tried to open Incredimail and got the following message: IncMail.exe Application Error: The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000044). Click on OK to terminate the application. Surprisingly, my computer didn't lock up yet and I was able to return here to edit my post, but a crash is coming....
File Open - Save As - Common Dialog Takes Too Long To Open
May 26, 2010I was having this problem on my old install of XP, which desperately needed a new install. In any case, I'm now using a freshly installed version of XP, and everything has been running perfectly for about 2 weeks. Suddenly, this one problem reappears: The File Open / Save As dialog box (aka Windows Common Control / comctl32.dll) takes forever to open (20 seconds to 60 seconds). I just did a chkdsk and defrag, and that did not solve the problem. Also, there are no network drives connected which could be slowing things down. This happens in both MS programs (such as Notepad) and 3rd party programs (such as Firefox).

Dec 22, 2006Why can't I get XP to open every folder using the "Details" option? I do have it set so that it remembers (most of the time) to re-open that folder with the file view it was in when it was closed, but I want XP to open every new and old folder with the "file details" view. Seems like a simple thing, but I can't get XP to understand that's what I want.

Mar 29, 2007I just got my computer back from best buy, it's under warranty and the hard drive had failed I was having blue screens then.Now, I have had it back for a week and today the blue screen popped up, twice. Each time the error dealt with ftdisk.sys and I believe it said beginning memory dump (something along those lines)I have no clue what ftdisk.sys is and am trying to figure out what I can do to fix this error.

Nov 4, 2008I was trying to do some cleanup on my system and needed to rearrange my drive letters. Tried to open Disk manager and an error popped up that said "dependency service or group failed to start." I checked to make sure that the appropriate services were running and tried Disk Manager again. Now it was showing my drives. Got out of Computer Management all together and then went back into Disk Management to verify my settings had taken. I got the same error again and could not see my drives, I exited Computer management and again went back into DM and my drives were now listed again.

I know I could check event viewer but some errors have generic errors while the error on the screen i.e. Windows Back throws a "media not ready" error which I can see locally. How would someone with RDP see that exact error? I know VNC I can see the desktop as the user sees it but remote desktop doesn't seem to be able.

Mar 17, 2006I use Windows 2000 professional edition.It has both service pack 4 and ws2_32 package.I was trying to install iTune.After I restarted after installation, the process stopped at a blue screen saying there is a critical error,or something like that. So I restarted computer and this time used F8 button to make it start at last known good configuration. When Windows started again, iTune finished installation. Then a bunch error messages popped up from various software's. The messages included ws2_32.dll invalid or too old, sockets initiation fail, and TCP/IP not installed. On top of that the internet stopped working. I have tried installing ws2_32 package again, but it didn't work. I am about to try reinstall service pack 4 roll up 1.

I don't know when this broke, I know I used to be able to open chm files with no trouble but I can't pinpoint the last time it worked.I've searched around and found some references to this, but no solution -the only relevant MSKB is for Win98. I tried regsvr32 hhctrl.ocx, deleting the hh.dat files, clearing IE's file cache; nothing has helped. I haven't made any significant recent changed to the system that I can think of.

Apr 25, 2005My computer is not booting up. A while back while using my computer a blue screen popped up saying that windows encountered an error and that it would shut down to prevent damage. When that happened I simply restarted my computer and everything was fine. This happened one or two times later and everything was fine. Today it happened again and when I went to restart it it the blue screen popped up immediately after that. On the third time I went to restart it the computer just said boot failure and did nothing. Every time I try to restart it does the same thing. It will let me press f2 for the start up settings but when I press f8 for safe mode it does nothing.

All of the other jpg's will not view.They will not view in thumbnails, in Firefox, in Paintshop Pro, In Windows Office Picture Manager, in Freshview or in Paint.Can somebody please help, these are cherished photos. The file sizes seem to be the same as ever. Earlier this was fine.(.iff is a picture file like jpeg) But now when I right click & browse for this fcheck programme(after right click) windows is unable to open that file.But I can open that file this way, after first opening fcheck and then from file>open. How can I set this to open this particular file by double clicking?(fcheck can open any image file e.g jpeg,tiff,bmp etc).

Oct 2, 2004I have tried to update to service pack 3 on my OS Windows XP professional at least 8 times. I am receiving an error message which states that a file is open and that I should close all applications ect. I have nothing running that I can see. The error says that "C:windowsapppatchdrvmain.sdb is open or application is running. I have tried to delete and replace the file with another copy located in an other subdriectory. When I double click on the problem file I get message that I can't open it. However, when I click on the copy in another folder I get a different message. When I try to delete or copy it the message is sdb files can not be copied or deleted. It seems that I must have something going wrong. I do notice when my computer is idle, it isn't. The harddrive goes crazy and when I check the preformace area in the task manager it shows high usage.

Create an association in the folder options control panel". Except that when I go there, there IS a program associated with the particular file type. Example: .jpg files, I have Microsoft photo editor, Paint Shop Pro 7, and Picassa, installed. I used to be able to RIGHT click on a .jpg file, and then go to "open with" and it would give me a list of installed programs to choose from. NOW I get the above error. Now, I DO use a registry cleaner, could I have damaged something? and how do I get it back?
