On Inserting A Disk - Is Not A Valid 32 Application
Apr 3, 2006
Just reformatted my HD and reinstalled windows.when i insert some dvd disks the following message appears:d:is not a valid win 32 application on the other hand, the title of the dvd is displayed and i can open it too. When i click on setup within the dvd i get the following message: setup.exe is not a valid win 32 application. This problem applies to both my DVD drives. I have tried them with GTA san andreas and with Oblivion. Same results...on the other hand, half-life 2 dvd works.

This is my first post so I'm likely to appear stupid. I'm of average computer competence but love the things. Short story is this:I have an accounting program in which I have data files for each year of my business. These have been successfully backed up for years on CD and now JumpDrive, and stored on the desktop with a shortcut for easy access.I downloaded and installed SP2. Now when trying to open a file, I get the message C:XXXXXXXXX is not a valid Win32 application. It always was before so what changed?I cannot back up my current files because that is the name I've always used. The computer doesn't recognize the name as valid so I have no security. An ancillary problem is that years ago, my adorable husband somehow associated my old data file to be opened with MusicMatch. (We don't even discuss this.) I managed a workaround so that I got the files to open with their program application even though I could never change the icon from MusciMatch. No harm no foul. No longer. Post SP2, the danged thing went back to opening MusicMatch, ignoring my old workaround. Messing with it for hours got it to where I'm now getting the invalid file messagel.

I just installed an HP Deskjet 5740. I could not find the install disk, so I installed the drivers and software through the HP Support Website. Now I am receiving an error box that will NOT close. It reads the following: hpcmpmgr.exe - Bad Image. The application or DLL c:WINDOWSsystem32msxml4.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette. I tried to run the HP software updates but that would not work.

I friend of mine bought a new HP 6210 all-in-one. When I went to install the software for it I got this error message "%1 is not a valid Win32 application". I have researched this error and as far as I can figure it applies only to windows 2000 server and pro. He is running XP Pro. any suggestions on a fix to get this all-in-one working?

I am having trouble accessing some programs. My anti-virus prog, My SpyBot Searech and Destroy and now another Anti Virus prog I just bought and downloaded. After installing and clicking finish I click the icon on the DT and get a message such and such program "is not a valid Win32 application My AV prog I had for 8 months just started doing this three days ago. Just tried EasyCleaner, no luck. Downloaded NoAware and ran it and it showed more crap and some Trojans and W32's , but I can't delete unless I but the registered prog for 49 bucks. Nortons on line virus scan did not show these Trojans or worms. Makes me skeptical of buying more. Some programs work and other don't. I tried System Restore not lick there either. I have been working on this for 2 days.

I'm troubleshooting a Windows XP (SP2) eMachine (with a fresh OS install on a new hard drive - no original eMachine software remains on the system) and I've never encountered such a persistent problem: certain applications (Fruit Loops, Adobe Acrobat Reader, among others) run fine after installation, but after a reboot they will not run. Their shortcuts, as well as the actual program executables, lose their original icons and are mysteriously changed to the generic window icon (the one Windows will use for a file type is doesn't recognize.) When I try to run these programs, using the desktop shortcut OR the actual executable, I get the error dialog box: "This program is not a valid Win32 application." This happens to several applications, while others (Pro Tools, Acid) remain unaffected and can be executed w/o any problem.

I got XP SP2
I never really tried Run -> cmd or Run -> regedit until today but they dont work.
Now, only Run -> cmd.exe or Run -> regedit.exe work! Otherwise it gives the error "file.exe is not a valid Win32 Application."
This doesnt bother me, EXCEPT that as of today when i boot the computer i am hit 3 times with the error message "cmd.exe is not a valid Win32 Application."
I checked C:WindowsSystem32 and the files cmd.exe and regedit.exe and ping.exe and etc are all there, and they are all valid files which work when i run them. There are no files named cmd.com or anything cmd.xxx in the folder.
The only thing i can really think of is that i installed Photoshop CS last night, and now this error has risen.
Maybe some settings got mixed or something? ....

I have an XP machine that while booting, after the Windows XP Logo with the blue bar under it shows, receives a message box titled "lsass.exe - Application Error" with the message "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc00000ld). Click on OK to terminate the application." This occurs twice and then just sits on an empty black screen. It never reaches the login screen. I have tried booting to safe mode and the last good configuration and they both experience the same thing...
BACKGROUND: Got the computer with the problem from brother in law who lives hundreds of miles away. He had fixed it and was selling it. It was clean and in good working order except for the following: No boot disk provided. DVD & CD drives wouldnt initialize automatically. Had to manually go find what you want to play and work with it til it played. Audio CDs would play. DVD never played dvds. Windows Media Player would not play FLV videos or MPEG4, MP4 videos, only avi. An error would come up saying there were not the correct codecs. By choice, this computer & our home does not have internet access, so I couldnt go d/l drivers or fixes directly to computer. Using my laptop and a flash drive, I d/l GOM Player and installed it on his computer, and it would say the same thing. So I d/l codec packs using the same method. I ran Trend Micro scans on all files before putting them on the flash drive. They were either clean or cleaned. (It said this was cleaned : Locked successfully Troj_Gen.C33L9) Another something came up and quickly said something was successfully ignored.) This was before there was a problem. Began to install Klite_Codec_Pack_580_Mega. Checked all the boxes so all the codecs could run. It started installing lots, then toward end it got an error message saying it couldnt register some big long numbers. I assumed it needed the internet to continue. It gave the choices to Abort, Retry, or Ignore (recommended). Each button produced the error message above and when you pushed OK it just looped. My husband restarted the computer thinking it would fix it and it began the problem stated at the beginning....

It would be great to download drivers that sped up your hard-disk access by 10's of percent wouldn't it? Well perhaps you can, Intel has made their Application Accelerator (IAA) available since last September. It reduces storage sub-system bottlenecks apparently. If you have a compatible Intel chipset (810 to 860) and a Pentium Celeron, III , 4 or Xeon chip then get on down to :http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/iaaRead through everything before you start downloading and installing. You may need to pre-install the Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility if you have XP running on a 830 or 845 chipset. Intel also provide a chipset identification utility if your unsure of what you have - it's linked from the same page.Intel claim very significant increases in boot times and application speed. On a personal note, on my P4 2GHz, applications do start a lot faster. I suggest you do some benchmarking first (a stopwatch is an easy way to measure boot time). I would be interested in results people have had. This also works for 98SE,ME,NT4 and 2000.
