I have a new Dell Laptop and I want to use an external keyboard. I have converted the Laptop to Brazil Potugues and I want to use a Portugues Keyboard. Now when I connect it via USB, the three ^Lock^ lights start flashing but the keyboard will not work and there is no selection for a Portugeus keyboard in the Windows

I need some help. My manager's HD in her Dell Latitude laptop (which lacks a cdrom) has caught a boot sector virus. The only solution was to take its HD out and put it into an external shell that connects to my computer via USB.I was able to install the first half of the Windows XP step, but when that was done and my computer restarted it did not complete the rest of the setup for the usb HD. Basically I am wanting to install windows using the Latitude's code then putting the HD back in hoping it we be as if it's a new install. Not sure if I have cleared up the entire situation, but hope soIf you follow and know what I am look for please help. If you would like to help and need more explaining I have all the time in the world. I appreciate any response, have a good one!

here is what happens.
Booting from battery: loads fine up to windows xp loading screen then freezes..
booting plugged into wall: Goes absolutely fine
also the laptop will run off the battery AFTER being booted up with the wall socket.
I have a Dell and my keyboard is in pretty bad shape. Some keys are sticky and the key covers (not sure what they are called) are missing making it difficult to type. Are there refurbished ones that would work? Is changing out a keyboard a hard thing to do? Will a generic keyboard work or would it have to be a Dell?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Sony Vaio Laptop. The keyboard will not respond in windows at the login screen, not even in to go into safemode. It will however work in BIOS, I rebooted several times, still no dice, held down the Fn key and hit keys to no avail. But at the login screen I can hit Fn+f8 and it'll toggle the screen from lcd to external and back, can also eject the cdrom. I am stuck cause i cant login to XP.
I had left my computer on when i left town for a day. When i was back the computer was at the windows login screen. I am assuming that at some point while i was gone an automatic windows upate may have been installed which forced the computer to reboot. the update may have messed up my keyboard drivers.
any help would be greatly appreciated as at this point im stuck!!!! thanks in advance
I wish to copy my laptop HD (all apps., programs etc.) to an external HD then replace the laptop hd with the external HD for upgrade purposes (80gb to 160gb). I'm seeking the best method for doing this. I've tried using the Microsoft feature ntbackup.exe

I removed the keyboard and inspected it but there was no sign of damage or of anything having been spilt on it. Also prior to this there had been no sign of any problem. The key that is completely non functional is del but if I press t or g i get tg and if I press y or h I get yh. Also (in word) pressing [ or , or . causes the first letter is a series to be capitalised whilst - takes you to save file.

For some reason the two USB ports have stopped working and no USB devices are recognised. I have previously used a USB card reader and external hard drive on both ports without any problems but now when I connect any device nothing at all happens.
Got a user who has a Acer 5100-3583 notebook with windows XP, the keyboard and touchpad are unresponsive after multiple reboots and standard trouble shooting yield no results.? The unit is only 14 months old and out of warranty.
Any clues?
It will read from DVD-ROM drive as it reads a DVD movie when inserted.
No USB devices such as keyboard and mouse work either.
got a toshiba laptop approximatley 3 years old. His keyboard is 101/102 and working correctly in the control panal, however, the @ sign is in the wrong place as is the " and i can't find the sign at all, i'm sure we used to move these at work for a joke but i can't find out how to do it. View 6 Replies View RelatedMy sis has one of those Wally-Mart Acer mini laptops; NO CD-ROM drive in it (PS: way-bad idea! Never buy a computer w/o a dvd/cd drive in it!). She managed to delete the graphics card driver and so when that occurred and rebooted, nothing on-screen! Its there, you just cannot see anything in windows! And, because there is no drive, the CD with all the original programs cannot be run in start-up mode without an external CD-ROM drive
I want to use my (HP Pavilion zv6000 w/XP) laptop as that external drive to re-load her original CD, which (of course) has all the drives on it! At start-up, the Acer (also w/XP) has an option to start-up from an ext. drive, so it has that capability (obviously, w/o a drive of its own), but how to make my HP "look" like an external drive (via USB-to-USB hookup) is the problem!

I have tried usb, ps2 everything. The keyboard works on bootup, so I can get into bios etc... but when it gets to the windows screen, nothing. No mouse or keyboard. Safe mode is the same thing. Dont want to format and reinstall windows. On that note, I did try a repair, when it asks for admin password it wont accept it. Says invalid admin password.. I even have it booting from the DVD drive so I can load Win XP.However, when I get to the Windows Setup and it asks me if I want to setup windows(press enter), Repair(some other key), quit(F3) my keyboard won't work. I hit "Enter" because I want to install XP and nothing happens. It is not responding to my keyboard strokes.
This is strange because the keyboard works in the BIOS.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy laptop died and I removed the hard drive.I hooked the hard drive up to my new laptop via a SATA/IDE cable.I can see the old hard drive in the E drive and it appears that all the contents are there by the size of the hard drive (same as when I had it in the old laptop) but I can only see, actually view, a very small percentage of the drive. If you get an external harddrive is it better to move the pagefile to the new hard drive which is what I was going to do change the drive for the virtual memory, then I got thinking, in case you didn't use the external drive all the time hooked up for whatever reason they you wouldn't have a pagefile on the old one does that make sense? I thought maybe it would be better just to move a bunch of pics and music to the extenal drive and leave the virtual memory (pagefile) where it is on the old drive, or would it make any difference??

the drive is plug and play so i don't have any software for it nor it is listed anywhere in the WD website.
However the drives is functioning properly in my laptop and on my freind's desktop as well....so seems like my drive's alrite.I can easily use 4gb pen drive and 30gb ipod on my desktop but not my external drive.
