msconfig won't run at start. Windows cannot find msconfig. It's there physically (I had to manually find it - Search won't work either)
I think it's a registry error. I looked where another forum "told me" to look, and I had different entries.
Have XP, service pack 2, and all updates. Use Norton, MS Antispyware, Adaware, Spybot, and weekly check with online virus check programs. Machine is clean (I hope). Have 2 user accounts on the machine. Had email issues with the ISP and got resovled/ I could open Outlook Express from my user account, but then my wife's user account wouldn't open Outlook Express at all. Thought I would try in Safe Mode to see if maybe some other program was interfering. NOTE: I did no harware or software change. Went to msconfig, and clicked on Safeboot.
pc takes for ever to get started up. Through msconfig, my start up registry is loaded down!!! Maybe that is why when it finally does come up when I click on MS wword or Excell, it takes for ever for them to load
Running XP-Pr0-SP3 on a standalone home PC with 4GB RAM, 300 GB HD split 3- ways with OS on the 'C' drive, a 64- bit processor and TELUS high speed Internet.
Recently having replaced the mouse with a Logitech Wireless and not having had it start up, I read in the Logitech forum that a workaround would be to go to MSCONGIG and uncheck everything, re- start, then re-check the items I wanted to start up and re-start.
i then check all items in the startup tab and run a normal startup instead of selective.
I did this and now both Logitech and my Webshots program do not start at startup. Is there a workaround or possible change of permissions that I need to do to resolve?
I have been unable to access the help and support from the start menu, when I click on it I briefly get the hour glass but nothing else, also when typing msconfig in the run box it is not available. I have xp home edition sp2 "Windows cannot find "msconfig" make sure that you typed the name correctly, then try again. To search for a file click start and search.
as i turned on my laptop today i realized that there is no start menu. All my desktop icons are there, though they take longer than normal to load and taskmanager works fine and i have all my navigation menus as well. I am also unable to run msconfig, even in Command Prompt. When i type in msconfig, i get the following message.msconfig is not a recognized command. Another problem that i have been having is that if i click on a window, and taskmanager was infront of it, taskmanager does not move behind my active window. I am running windows XP, on a Presario V2000 with a 60 gig hd, and a 512. i have tried everything to get it to come back, i have booted in safe mode and tried that way, i have also used StartUp Mechanic to disable everything that i do not recognize in hopes that something is blocking the start menu from loading. I am okay with a computer, but the simpler the instructions the better.
I have hp compaq nc6320 laptop recently bought. It was working absolutely fine until the day before yesterday. However, yesterday one of my friends brought his flash drive and I copied some of the documents since then I am having a big trouble. I need experts help please. I have encountered the following problems.
* Can't run msconfig, cmd, regedit ect, however, explorer can run
* tried to download antivirus software it did not let me do, I had one thought was not good enough and uninstall it, later on I could not install the other one too. My pc is now without antivirus.
*when I use IE 7 search engine as google.co.uk it crashes meaning it opens the pages about the search title however it closes before I could get the access to them
*I used online scanning facilities for if there are virus in my laptop, it showed me worm.vb.dj
I never use windows 2000, but have a machine with it on it. how do i get into msconfig like i do on my xp machine? when i go to run and type it in msconfig it says bad command.
I used to be able to run MSCONFIG and now I can't. I've tried the Start/Run thing several times. I've downloaded an XP version, and copied it to the WindowsSystem folder and tried it from there too, but I can't even get that to run.
I am trying to start my computer in safe mode through msconfig because pressing F8 at startup doesn't seem to work although I am missing the BOOT.INI tab.
Everytime I try to run msconfig or registry editor, it pops up for a second and then closes immediately. They open, but close immediately so i get about a 1/2 second look.I restored my system to before this problem started -I'm running Windows XP Pro.
When I go to the Start menu, then click Run and type in msconfig, nothing happens. Could I have inadvertently changed some setting or somehow altered the configuration? Or have I screwed up in some other, more arcane, way.
I can't get msconfig even open up. When I try Control-Alt-Delete, nothing opens up, but a little green square appears in lower right task bar. However, when I run my mouse over that square, it disappears as well. PC is running XP Home. I've scanned PC with McAfee - no viruses found. Also cleared with AdAware and Spybot. What can I do. Here's my HijackThis log:

I am trying to clean up some startup items and when i go to run msconfig the hour glass comes up for a second and then it goes away but nothing happens
I run two hard drives. C: and f:. F: is my primary and C: is the slave. If I boot from C: I can run msconfig. If I boot from F:, I cannot run msconfig without first removing the cable from the c: HD and rebooting. If I run sysedit while in the f: drive, it shows autoexec.bat and config.sys from the c: drive and win.ini from the f: drive. How can I change the autoexec.bat to run from the f: drive on boot up
I goto run msconfig, it acts like it's loading, but the window never opens. When I check the Task Manager, msconfig.exe is in the processor list. So, why won't the window show itself
when i go to Start,Run,type msconfig, i get the error message:Windows cannot find msconfig.Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again. To search for a file click the Start button and then click Search; same thing happens ,I do have msconfig in the computer and the path is: C:/WINDOWS/pchealth/helpctr/binaries. Same path for the Help & Support. I `m aware that there is not reference(or key)for the above subjects(msconfig-Help & Support) in the registry and i`m not confident enough to alter it, so
Title says it all. Not sure when it actually disappeared. Noticed it while studying for A+ exam today. Here is what I have tried that hasn't worked:
(1) Missing BOOT.INI file. It is there. (2) Registry corruption. Nope. The entry doesn't appear in the expected location. (3) Improper permissions set on BOOT.INI. Nope. I can open it. Plus there is no Security tab in the Properties window, which raises another eyebrow of "huh?"
Dell XPS T450, 576 MBWindows XP Pro OSI'm trying to make some startup changes using msconfig.exe and services.msc from the run command line. Despite running under an administrator login, I get a message to the effect that I don't have administrator privileges to run these commands.
I open the System Configuration Utilility, go to the "Startup" tab, click on a program I no longer wish to run at startup and get an error message stating: "An access denied error was returned while attempting to change a service. You may need to log on using an Administrator Account to make the specified changes".I then click on OK to the error message and then the text box pops up stating the usual "You must restart your computer for some of the changes made by System Configuration to take effect". "Restart" - "Exit without Restart".
