my problem is, after each restore was completed, i lost 1GB of free space on my C drive. by the 5th restore, i was up to losing 2GB of free space on my C drive. i know this because i went to My Computer looked at the amount of free disc space on my C drive. after doing the 5 or so restores, i've lost a total of about 6 GB of my C drive's free space. why is that happening? how do i get that space back?

I've noticed that once defraged since a few weeks ago I HAVE GONE from over 70% free space down to only under 40%....I don't run any major software at the moment BUTDO use the internet on ADSL most days BUT not to any great extent. The only connection I can c is this copying Dig pix straight to disc...Am I right or is there sumthing else going on

C has an overall capacity of 27.95 GB of which 12.9 is occupied. Now, I have noticed (for two or three months, I never bothered looking before) that I am losing .01 GB of disk space PER DAY. Thus, day before yesterday, I had 15.05 GB of remaining free space, yesterday 15.04 GB and today it is 15.03.

My computer is about 2 years old. In those two years, I had to re-install Windows XP and everything else on my computer...for reasons unknown...I recently performed a New Installation of Windows XP on my computer. I don't have alot of things installed on my computer. The total space all the programs in my Add and Remove programs file takes up is only 1GB. Since I had to start over and re-install everything and my programs only add up to 1GB, Shouldn't I have more free space ?
i wanted to copy a cd image 4.18GB ISO format from partition F: NTFS 9GB free to partition D: (FAT32 12GB free space) and windows gives me that crap there is not enough space and i should do a disk clean up.
I made a disk clean up to partition D: and there was 3GB of system restore files!!! maybe coz i deleted 6GB earlier anyway i deleted the system restore files
Only NTFS partions can have files with file size more than 4GB..i hope theres nothing wrong with my windows or my hard disk..and i wanna know if theres a way to move that ISO image..thanx in advance.
I've noticed sometimes that the Free Space on my harddrives won't reflect changes I've made. For example, on my 28.6gb F: drive, I had about 586mb free. I just deleted a video file of about 700 mb, so it should be up to about 1.2 gb. Oddly enough, its still at 586mb.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just restored my xp computer to an earlier system restore point.After checking the properties of my c drive I found that the used space on my hardrive had increased by about 3/4 of a gigabyte. I couldn't understand why that was, so I used a program called dirgraph to analyze, and chart what amount of space the individual directories each use on my c drive, and then took a snapshot of the chart.
I then undid my restore, and instead of regaining the .75gb back, I lost another .75gb. So I used dirgraph again, compared snapshots, and found where the extra space is being taken from. Dirgraph shows a subdirectory of c called "System Volume Information". It has a subdirectory called "restore". In it was another subdirectory with a large 5gb file, and 2 smaller .75gb files, named rp1064, and rp1066. One of the .75gb files was not in the snapshot I took before I undid my restore. I know the system restore put them in(it added the 1st when I did the restore, and the 2nd when I undid the restore). But the thing is that my system restore is set to use 12% of my hardrive, or 4010mb(max allowed). And the file(csystem volume information

View 4 Replies View Relatedi had to system restore and when i came back all my files where gone but i still ahd the same hard disk space left and then i ran my diskk defragmentor and i found some files that i had that are now fragmented and still takeing up large parts of my memory here is what the Analysis report for the defragmentor said and when i go in to USERDATA to try delte some files it says USERDATA is not assable ,acces is denied and i tryed goin in it on safe mode and im administator on my computer so idk y it wont let me in plase help i only got 4% disk space left and when i click run dick defragmentor it says i need 15% space to run efectively sould i still run it and c what happens?

Well now, when I go to reinstall, it will not automatically start so I clicked on my computer and dvd-rw Drive (E and there are no files, in fact it states that my my file system is CDFS and the CDA Default - Full It says all space used 672 MB and Free Space 0 Bytes

When I loaded XP on this partition perhaps a year ago, it had plenty of space. Now it's full. I've run the usual XP disk cleanup helper, deleted everything in any temp file I can find, cleaned out prefetch, moved all the NTUninstall folders to a different partition. Uninstalled unused apps, since I know they leave stuff in C: even though I've installed them somewhere else). I gained nearly 400MB when I did that, but now the space is back down to 80MB in less than a week. Where is all this bloat coming from? What can I do to trim it back down to size? Yea, I have PartitionMagic (old, v8), but I'd rather just trim the excess, if that's possible. I get nervous moving partitions around.

If you are like me, and never use the hibernate function, you can turn it off. By turning hibernate off, Windows XP deletes the hiberfil.sys. This can free up the as much disk space as the amount of ram that you computer has.Go to Control Panel/Power Options/Hibernation and untick the box. It's as easy as that. Now you will have plenty more disk space to install those mega programs!

Now, for the past 8 months, i've been editing & burning DVD's and films using editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5, etc, and i've never had a problem. I've always had at least 50 GBs (or so i believe) of free space at any given moment when messing around with that stuff. When editing today, I was alerted that my local disk C was running low, and once i agreed to do a 'clean-up' of some sort to remove temporary internet files & offlines files, etc, i got a problem. Suddenly, my system was unstable and I had 3 MB of free space.

When I restart, all my free space comes back. I just had to restart because I was down to 80 K. When I started I had 16.5G available. It's been about 2 hours and I'm down to 15G. I've run my anti-virus. About the time it started I installed a back up hard drive (which is intermittently attached to this laptop) and WD anywhere backup software.

For some reason, DTA will map the drives when they login, and everything works fine, but after an hour or two, they lose connectivity to that drive and are no longer able to access it. I know this is very vague, but has anyone had this problem?BTW, I just recently upgraded from NT 4.0 to Server 2003 Standard, and we've had tons of other little problems with permissions and the like. Is this the cause of the dissapearing drives?
