View 1 Repliesmy computer stalling/freezing for no reason. I have AVG and have used Ad-aware and Spybot Search and Destroy and neither have found a problem. Sometimes all of a sudden I lose access to the internet, Im on a LAN but when I lose access the other computers on the LAN still can access the internet fine. If that problem doesnt occur, my computer just decides to stall and when I restart it sometime freezes on the Window XP screen.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi share a computer with some folks and some of them are quite crafty with the old computer. they keep hiding the internet explorer browser, i cannot find it in programs at all! so i can only get online using mozilla firefox. where on earth can they be hiding it?
View 6 Replies View Relatedsometimes if i stop using a browser window for about 10mins, the browser seems to stop seeing the internet (until i reboot). this happens with both internet explorer and firefox. it brings up 'cannot find server' etc, as if i had no active connection. although all my other programs are using the internet fine, MSN messenger, limewire, download managers etc i recently reinstalled, im running windows xp pro with SP2 and all the latest updates. and have internet explorer 6, and mozilla firefox 1.5. i have an ADSL connection thru a wireless router.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI currently only have Internet access through AOL on a broadband connection. For non-AOl Internet requests (simple example, when I install a program and try to register it - or even for when Media player 11 tries to go to the internet to get album info when I play CDs), how can I route my requests through AOL? Even with AOL sined on and the web working in the browser pane of AOL Openride, I can't get IE to work beyond the Sonicwall firewall though the AOL browser does (except, for instance, requets to view My eBay, for instance). I have Pc-Cillin security and Windows XP Media Center on a Dell Inspiron 1501 with AMD x2 CPU, 1GB RAM, 80Gb HDD, etc.I'm guessing the answer lies in RRAS or a third-party product. I can handle technical answers though the les outside references the better (time is hard to come by for everyone :)) Happy New Year to all!
View 11 Replies View RelatedI can't get a new IE6 browser window to open up by clicking the "e" on my lower taskbar. When I sign onto the internet via NetZero, their start page opens up sometimes, but usually it doesn't. If it does open, it takes a long time to load and I really can't do anything on that page anyway. I've been having this problem for about 2 weeks now, so over this time I've tried doing restore operation, using several different dates, but nothing has helped. I thought about reinstalling IE6, but that looks to be a problem since IE7 beta is the latest thing, plus I don't know if I might mess up something within XP anyway.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis problem is that I have an active internet connection (dial-up) but neither of my two browsers (IE6 and Netscape) can find any websites. This is running XP Pro.It's as if the connection isn't recognized as being there? I've tried pinging but that doesn't work either. What can go wrong between having an active connection (shown on the task-bar icon) and having it accessible to applications? What can I check on?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running XP Pro SP2 2.4 Ghz 512 memory. My problem is that I can not connect to the internet with either firefox or IE. My DSL is working fine with a connection speed of 100mgs. Everytime I open either browser it only leads to a dead link. I went to command prompt and pinged Yahoo and the ping was succesful
View 6 Replies View Relatedsometimes my browser doesnt pick up a connection. But my yahoo does work. Sometimes my aim and msn won't connect either. I have a router connected to this.
View 3 Replies View RelatedRight after my computer is finishes booting, suddenly there's a prompt telling me that Internet Explorer wants to change my Internet Protection settings. Then it asks me if I want to give IE permission to change these settings. Of course not (I think?). And the problem is still there. I connect with Verizon DSL, but when I go on Internet Explorer, the browser doesn't work properly- it says "Web Page Unavavailable While Offline"- what's up with that?! I even checked the status of my connnection- "Connected"! It's just retarded.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy friend did a windows recovery after he had a black screen when starting windows. Both IE and Firefox had slow connectivity yet I had him do a speedtest with speakeasy.net and it showed good speeds. He says the longer the computer is on, the slower is a surfing the internet. CPU usage is normal.
internet speeds:
2500kbps/400kbps
Could the recovery have messed with his computer networking drivers? He used a gateway recovery disk. His computer is either a gateway or dell computer.
I am having a problem with my computer. When I try to close applications like internet browser, real player, dxdiag there comes a blue screen and it says something about memory dump error. It says beginning to dump and so on. This started happening aftr the installation of Sp2 where as before there were no service packs installed.
View 14 Replies View RelatedAll of the sudden yesterday my computer just decided to start running very slowly. Nothing really changed with the exception of me installing the new Java update that my computer told me it needed. Now, at all times, all the items in my task manager use a huge amount of memory and I am completely unable to multitask. Right now, Firefox is using 180,000K of memory and this is the only website I have up, as well as the only program that I am running. Neither Firefox or IE ever used to use this much memory. I have included a screenshot of the task manager from when I first restarted my computer today. I have restarted, defragged, cleaned up the disk, everything. My specs are as follows: Dell Laptop, Intel Celeron M Processor 1.40 Ghz, 504mb of RAM, 80gb hard drive (hard drive is brand new).
Even when Firefox or IE is the only thing running, some websites bog the entire computer down and it stalls for minutes without moving. Then, all of the sudden, it catches up with itself and does everything I tried to do while it was frozen. I know I don't have a lot of RAM and it isn't the newest and fastest system out there, but the sudden onset of this makes me think that my computer isn't just outdated, something changed in the system. Can anyone tell me what is going on here? How can I stop all these applications from using so much memory and be able to multitask and stream online media again?
Is there any way to have a default Browser? I want every program that has links to open up in say. Firefox, I have tried setting it as my default browser in the settings option, and in "Set programs access and defaults". It works quite well... But can I get MSN Messenger to open up in that browser? When I click on my e-mails or MSN Space Etc. It opens up in Internet Explorer. Is there ANY way to open it in my default browser?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am half way computer literate, but this one has me. I am hoping someone can tell me where to look. When I open Internet Explorer, my home page (www.google.com) opens. When it is finished loading, it automatically redirets to yahoo mail login page. The catch is, all my browsers windows that are open will be changed too. If I hit "stop" before the page is loaded, then hit "refresh", this action does not occur. I have Microsoft updates automatically downloade do my computer. I have the latest MacAfee anti-virus on my computer and have run the latest scan. I have run Microsoft beta spy-ware, ad aware and yahoo's version. I am not seeing anything.

View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter reading an article in "Wired" last night, I installed the Google Toolbar on my Windows 2000 XP HE. I ran Ad-AwareSE and SpyBot. Browsing seemed to go quicker and smoother. This morning, however, I got a MS Windows message concerning "possible" trouble with my browser. It recommended examining my add-ons in IE. I don't have sufficient knowledge to recognize what I should and shouldn't have or, more appropriately, what may be harmful here. I know that those "RealPlayer" programs are invasive so when I saw that listed, I disabled it.
View 23 Replies View RelatedI recently reformatted and installed Windows XP Home fresh on both my desktop and laptop. All worked fine even after getting updated until the last update on each. On the desktop it included Service pack 2 update but not on the laptop, it was a new update but still has only service pack 1. On each computer the browsers both IE6 and foxfire started running very slow. IT would take many seconds to get new pages open. On the laptop I restored and IE6 works fine but I am still having a problem with Foxfire and it also received a Foxfire update. Any idea how to fix this problem without restoring and losing the needed update? I have run XP on both systems for a good while and never had this problem.
