Error On Every Command

Apr 17, 2006

Recently, my Windows 2003 Server started giving me 404 pages for everthing HTTP; and I mean everything. FTP works just fine. I uninstalled some software that a friend of mine installed, and now I get "Service Unavailable" in big bold letters on the screen, with no error number associated with it. I'm not sure what to do, to be honest. I'll keep playing with things, but it happened Friday during the day, and I'm sure that no one was using it on Friday.

Command Prompt Error - 'command' Is Not Recognized?

Oct 22, 2007

Previously I have been doing work that requires me to unplug my network connection and I need to check my IP address each time I plug it in again. I guess it's not set for static IP.Anyways to do this I usually go into Command Prompt and type 'ipconfig'Now however I just get "'ipconfig' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file".The directory is the same as its always been, I can change it but it doesn't seem to matter what it is.I've checked many other posts and is there something possibly wrong with my PATH variable? I used the command 'echo %PATH%' and it works, the list it gives is very garbled however.

Users Password Error - Cannot Get Command Prompt

Aug 9, 2007

I have looked at the answers you have given for this subject, and none seem to apply to me. I lost my boot disks in the hurricane, and my son has somehow changed all the passwords, including the administrator one, and then locked the computer. When I reboot, even in safe mode, I come immediately to the "Control-Alt-Delete" screen. We have tried every password we could think of, and the users now just get the error that we've been locked out. I have tried every Administrator password I would have set, including no password at all, to no avail. So I cannot get to a command prompt even from Safe Mode.

Honestly, I would be happy to just reformat, but I can't even get to the DOS prompt, and I don't have a DOS reboot disk for this computer (lost too!). No other computers are running that version of XP, so I can't make one from one of those either.

Filter A Folder - Special Command To Type At The Command Prompt?

Nov 21, 2009

I would like to know if this can be done in win xp environment. say I have a folder, A, of pictures only and they all have file extensions jpg eg abc.jpg, xyz.jpg. say I have a second folder, B, which contains all the files of A(if you ignore extensions) and more(but all are pictures.) But all the files in B has extensions NEF instead of jpg eg abc.NEF, efg.NEF, xyz.NEF. My idea is to extract all the files from B that has the same the name as A(ignoring extensions) and either move or copy to a separate folder ie if A contains abc.jpg, xyz.jpg then abc.NEF and xyz.NEF will be extracted and moved/copied to a new folder. I'm not sure where to start. is there a program out there that can do this? or there's a special command to type at the command prompt?

Logon Error - Command Length Incorrect - (NO ONE CAN LOGON)

Jul 15, 2005

I've seen another post somewhere and someone else had this problem, but I haven't found a solution. We're using WXP Pro, SP2. After doing a repair install (the other person just had it after using Windows Update), at logon, after entering the correct, AND VALID, password either for a user Or the Administrator, Windows Logon displays the following Logon Message in a box: "!The system cannot log you on due to the following error: "The program issued a command but the command length is incorrect. "Please try again or consult your administrator."

No matter how many times logon is attempted, or with what account, the message continues to be issued. Thus, NO ONE can logon to the GUI. The Recovery Console can be used to logon as Administrator, but no password is requested even though there is one in place. I've searched the MSKB but didn't find any reference. Implementing "Last known good configuration" does not fix the problem.

The only thing I cna think of is that a few weeks back I installed a MS-DOS emulator that didn't work, and then I uninstalled it.

Run Command Completely Gone

Nov 16, 2006

I was cleaning virus and spyware from a friends computer, and when all was done, the Run command is now missing not only from the Start menu, but also from the Advance Properties to be able to turn it on and off. I noticed in the registry entry HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsShellNoRoamMUICache, the key for Run Command was missing, so I created it ("@shell32.dll,-30483"="Run command" REG_SZ)hoping that would solve it, but still it is missing. I re-ran XP SP2, no luck. I installed the free version of Registry Mechanic, but that didn't fix it (though there were things only the full version would fix). I found a reference to this on the site for Prevx1 saying this occurs when McAfee (which was used) only fixes a particular virus half-way, and that Prevx1 would fix it completely. It didn't.

Dos Command Line

Jan 9, 2009

Just built up a new computer. Installed Windows XP Home SP3. Installed fine but couldn't get online. Found out I needed to install the drivers from the motherboard install disk. It installs the drivers but then it has to reboot to finish. When it reboots it goes to a command line promt to make a raid disk. Problem is that I don't have a floppy disk drive in the computer. (Come on, I didn't think ppl even used em anymore.) If I try to take the CD out and run windows, It gets to the XP load up screen then restarts. Unless I run it in safe mode. My question is this:Is there a command i can use in that prompt to save the Raid Disk info to another drive or port. Like a USB port or External Floppy Drive?

Partition - Using Command Line?

Dec 11, 2006

I received a Fujitsu Amilo, 80GB notepad running WinXP.

I'm trying to partition the disc into 4v20GB drives. NOw I have tried to use the Windows Doc Management facility - it does not work! You know, when you right click on the Primary partion (there is one only partition shown - 79GB) but, previously with previous computers, when you right click, the sub-menu that appears has a 'make new partition' selection. With this computer, when I right click, that selection is greyed out and unavailable. Now I must explain that the suppliers of this computer did not supply the original Windows didk but rather what they call a 'Recovery disk' What I assume is that this 'Recovery' disk does not supply the partitioning facility.
