Dual Bootsup System - Aero Looking Graphics
Jan 16, 2009
I used to have Windows Vista on my computer, but I decided to install XP onto my computer (Dual-boot). While XP is a lot more quicker and stable than Windows Vista, I have to admit that there were some things from Vista that I much more preferred over some of the things XP did.So, my question is... is there a way to change the Windows Explorer of XP to resemble the Vista Windows Explorer? I don't mean in the sense of Aero-looking graphics, I mean the shortcuts at the side and the bar that tells you what folder you are in and such. What I'm referring to is circled in blue in this picture.

I was wondering this computer stays on all the time. I just put a new hard drive in and put the operating system on with the recovery cds. everything works great except for one problem. now 2 or 3 or 4 times a day when you use the computer, and no matter what you leave on when you walk away, like word or a site on the internet whatevert it may be and when you come back the screen is black and the error box that says no signal is on the screen. I made sure the graphics card has the newest driver, and the monitor is pretty new flat screen and always work well. I changed the monitor cable since it was saying no signal I figured it really had to be one of two things, either the monitor cable or the graphics card. My question is do you agree and will a graphics card do that when it is going out? will it work ok when you start the computer and then after awhile get no signal?

I swapped out a harddrive with windows 2000 pro from my dell dimension v400 to a dimension xpst550. The V400 has ATI Rage. The dimension xpst550 has a 32mb diamond viper v770 with nividia tnt. Everything went ok.I set up the monitor using the driver that windows 2000 found and recommended. No problems.... The system and the monitor worked fine.I went to Nvidia's web site and downloaded the latest drivers for this.. I had a couple of hang ups where Windows would shut down the program, in Microsoft Money. Web pages were no problem. So after a few more incidents of hanging up and shutting down the money program I uninstalled the Nvidia downloaded driver.. No more problems after setting up the moniter size etc again.

NT4 workstation running on the C Drive. How would I go about loading W98 onto the D Drive to run, when occasionally needed, as a separate OS? Or can anyone point me to a webpage that would take me through the process? Would loading W98 wipe the D Drive?

I want create a dual boot system my Windows XP pro PC. I can create partitions okay (using Partition Manager 8.5 se) but I don't know how to set up, or edit, the Master Boot Record or whatever else is involved.I shall want to make a clean install of another XP OS.If there is some (preferably free) software that assists with this that'd be good.I have a spare PC on which I can make my mistakes too!

I had some failure and have recovered everything and upgraded to SP2.However, now after the POST as we go to load windows it tells me tohighlight which O/S I want to use.I always take the first (Windows XP Home Edition) and it boots andoperates fine. However, the second choice is also Window XP HomeEdition and if I take it it tells me there is a disk hardware error and it cannot boot.

I have been trying to install Windows XP as a second OS as I already have Windows 7 Ultimate installed. Unfortunately, after I select a partition, format it, and reboot the system stalls on the screen after the BIOS that has something to do with a list of devices and such. After 10 or so seconds a few characters and letters go blank randomly on the page. I rebooted and selected my cd drive as the boot device and accidentally didn't press a button in time to boot and a bunch of highlighted numbers were thrown all over the screen and a random smiley face on one of the lines.

I'm trying to dual boot 2 different installs of xp pro from 2 drives using the Windows boot loader. I've edited the boot.ini every possible way I can think of, but nothing works. I've done this plenty of times using a linux boot loader or dual booting from a single drive but I cant figure this out. I haven't been able to find any reference to this subject anywhere, but I think it would work. Anybody have a clue as to how to do this? I know I can use a different boot manager to accomplish this, I just wanted to make the Win boot.ini work. Or, does anybody know of a good boot manager if I cant make this work?

I have a laptop, HP dv6000, with Vista previously installed. Yesterday, I created a partition on my hard drive and installed XP on it. So, ideally, I should have two windows system installed. Maybe in fact, there are 2 systems installed. However, the problem is after I installed XP, it directly loaded into XP without letting me choose which system I wanted to load into when I restarted the pc. In other words, I can not log in my vista system now.

I currently have XP on the first partition, and I later added Vista on another partition as a dual boot. For various reasons, I need to reinstall XP. That involves formatting the first partition and installing a clean XP.It just occurred to me that doing that might mess up the dual boot functionality.Should I be concerned, and if so, what can I do to avoid the problem?

I have dual booting on my PC with Vista home premium on a 500 Gb SATA disk and XP Pro on a 250Gb SATA, both internal. Vista no longer holds terrors for me and I'd like to get rid of XP and regain better use of the 250Gb HD. Can I just remove XP from the control panel in the XP boot or is it a lot more complicated?I don't really want to re format the XP drive as I'd have to transfer a lot of data and files

I want to dual-boot this machine with Windows XP, and the reason is: Vista is making Halo:Combat Evolved (my favorite online game) very slow at 20fps. This may be nVidia's fault, but people who use XP and have the same (or closely similar) hardware and drivers as me don't have this problem. I have 50GB of free hard drive space. Windows Vista is my current OS. I love Halo so much I am willing to drop some more cash into my computer to dual boot with Vista and XP so I can play it s'more.

I managed to create a new partition on my Compaq Presario C700 laptop and install XP. (It came with Vista).First thing I noticed was that I can not detect any wireless networks or connect to the internet now. I am assuming that I need that driver and a whole bunch of other XP drivers as well. I have visited websites where they have a whole laundry list of drivers to download for my situation. Before I go through the painful process of downloading and installing all of them, I want to make sure this is really what I need to do.

I have Win XP home installed as OEM software on the C drive of my PC.
I also have this OS as a Norton Ghost file supplied with the PC as a
"Recovery CD".
I have installed a second hard drive designated "D"
This all works fine.
I wish to install Win 2000 (which I have on a Microsoft cd) on the second HD.
I would then hope at boot - up to be given the choice of which OS to load.
Can anyone tell me what is the simplest way to do this?

In the past, I have used the S-video port (with RCA adapter) in a dual view setup with my TV. I recently reinstalled Windows XP and now I can't get the secondary display (the TV) to work correctly. I just get a bunch of black & white lines moving up the screen (looks like bad reception/static on a TV). The weird thing is that the TV displays everything fine during the bootup process, including the loading screen with the Windows XP logo. Full color and everything. It's when Windows actually starts that the TV freaks out. Another weird thing is if I use nVidia's TV setup Wizard and select "Span," the image on the TV actually stabilizes. But I am forced to keep a low resolution on the monitor (which wasn't the case before I reinstalled XP), and as soon as I make any other changes the TV goes back to freaking out.

I accidentally deleted a partition and later found out that my system is dead....The only way I recover out of that is I reinstall Windows and then install grub again to recover the Linux partition. But I feel the delete partition is a very rapid process just taking seconds and in that I don't think files would be deleted, so I feel potentially I can recover the deleted partitions including the boot partition. But I don't know how to do it. Also now when the boot partition is deleted and the system is not booting up what should be done to recover the system and data?
