Vista Is Lost: Dual System Failed?

I have a laptop, HP dv6000, with Vista previously installed. Yesterday, I created a partition on my hard drive and installed XP on it. So, ideally, I should have two windows system installed. Maybe in fact, there are 2 systems installed. However, the problem is after I installed XP, it directly loaded into XP without letting me choose which system I wanted to load into when I restarted the pc. In other words, I can not log in my vista system now.

I had Windows Vista in my laptop. I thought of going for XP/Vista Dual Boot. I took XP CD and booted from it and installed XP in my D Drive (Vista was in C Drive). Later on I didn't see XP/Vista Dual Boot option so I modified boot.ini file and though I am able to see Vista option now but still Vista fails to boot. XP is booting fine.

Is it possible to have a Vista based system and then load XP on the same system and switch between the two. I know mac's have something similar to this but i have an HP dv7 pavilion notebook with an AMD Turion x2 Dual-core mobile RM-70 2ghz processor, 4 gb of ram, ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics chip set, and 156GB of free harddrive space

Now when I start XP I get the option to load a previous version of windows or (default) install the new OS As I say the second option comes up as default and gives barely 2 seconds to select the first option and continue with starting the computer How can I eradicate the option to install the new OS?

I currently have XP on the first partition, and I later added Vista on another partition as a dual boot.For various reasons, I need to reinstall XP. That involves formatting the first partition and installing a clean XP.It just occurred to me that doing that might mess up the dual boot functionality.Should I be concerned, and if so, what can I do to avoid the problem?

I want to dual-boot this machine with Windows XP, and the reason is: Vista is making Halo:Combat Evolved (my favorite online game) very slow at 20fps. This may be nVidia's fault, but people who use XP and have the same (or closely similar) hardware and drivers as me don't have this problem. I have 50GB of free hard drive space. Windows Vista is my current OS. I love Halo so much I am willing to drop some more cash into my computer to dual boot with Vista and XP so I can play it s'more.

I managed to create a new partition on my Compaq Presario C700 laptop and install XP. (It came with Vista).First thing I noticed was that I can not detect any wireless networks or connect to the internet now. I am assuming that I need that driver and a whole bunch of other XP drivers as well. I have visited websites where they have a whole laundry list of drivers to download for my situation. Before I go through the painful process of downloading and installing all of them, I want to make sure this is really what I need to do.

I was informed the Windows XP does not work with Dual Core Processing systems, and that you need Vista in order to get the performance out of the 2nd core? is this true?

I'm trying to make a dual boot system Vista/XP with my HP Media Center purchased in 2007 with Vista pre-installed. Inside Vista I created the partition for XP (disk D and rebooted with the 'XP Pro SP2' inside. After selecting its correct partition for installing it copies all files on hard disk and it reboots in order to start its installation, upon rebooting and starting first time from hard disk, it says that there is an error in the system and stops. If I install only XP on the system it works correctly even though some newest hardware is not recognized. I had already made a dual boot two years ago with a 2007 XP Student Edition and it smoothly. If it is due to the XP version being too old that maybe cannot deal with the boot record created by Vista
Or perhaps such an old XP cannot recognize a boot hard disk that is not C:?
Is there a way to bypass this point (perhaps fixing the boot record) in order to continue correctly the installation?

I originally had Vista Business edition on my laptop and decided to dual boot with XP. So far I created a partition on the same drive (C: ) as Vista and installed XP on it. how do I choose between Vista and XP when my computer boots up? When I turn on my computer it boots straight into XP and doesn't show that menu where it gives me a choice of which OS I want to boot

just ordered a new pc that is on its way pre loaded with WIN XP PRO SP2. It also come with a free VISTA BUSSINES upgrade. I want to set up a dual boot system when i get my VISTA disk. should i use partition magic and set up a new partition for vista or is there a better way of doing this

I initially started with XP and created a separate partition for Vista, installing Vista on the other partition, Vista sees the (XP) Earlier version of windows. When I choose XP, I get the following error: NTOSKRNL.EXE is missing or corrupt. If I repair the XP with fixmbr - I end up screwing up Vista. Then when I repair Vista, it end's screwing up XP

I'm currently running Vista on a raid 0 array, and want to dual with XP. I have two partitions, one with vista and the other that I tried installing XP on. After it finishes the initial installation and restarts it says to press any key to boot from the CD. I wait without pressing anything and than it says that there was an error reading the disk. If I remember correctly, after it restarts it goes strait into windows setup. This happens every time I try restarting, but I can get back into vista by putting the hard drive to boot first. In vista I can see the other partition where XP was installed, and inside is just a folder titled WINDOWS and it seems like all the windows files are in there

I'm having problems dual booting XP with Vista. My first problem is that I can't see the space I create from when I shrink the volume on the XP install screen. I have 2 HDs, both over the 137 GB limit (or whatever it is) so I assume it may be related to that. Also the main HD has a separate partition for Vista.
I don't really use the one HD so I was going to just install XP on that and be done with it. Well when I went to do that, it said that it couldn't recognize the formatting on the C drive or it may be damaged and would need to reformat it to continue. I canceled out of it and then my pc wouldn't boot. I had to put the Vista cd in to repair it
I'm thinking about unplugging the C drive and then trying again. Or would that cause problems when I plugged it back in?

I have a piece of hardware I use for cutting (scrapbooking thing) and I spent a BUNDLE of money for it ($400) a few years ago. Problem is, Xyron (company) stopped making updates for it past Vista 32. Now here I am with a Dell Inspiron 1545 loaded with Windows 7 and have no way to run the cutter unless I pay Xyron $100 for the new software.Back in 2002, I had a Dell desktop (no longer in use) and I still have the installation CDs for XP from that system. Is it possible with this 1545 to put BOTH Windows 7 and XP on it??? ANDDD....can I use the CDs from the Dell desktop for the installation?

I have a harddrive with Windows XP installed on, and for some odd reason decided to put in another harddrive and install vista on it. After coming to my senses and realising I didn't want vista, I took out the harddrive. But now whenever I boot, it still asks me which operating system to boot into.

I had vista and xp in dual boot and decided i was going to delete the vista partition, well apon restarting my comp,i get a real quick Invalid boot something or other, cant read all of it before it disapers, and then nothing, it wont boot into xp.i have done a fixboot and i did a bootcfg/rebuild and still nothing

I wish to set up a dual boot arrangement using :existing 300GB HDD and new 1000GB HDD
existing Win XP pro and new Win Vista existing Wireless Broadband and new ADSL2+ without physically changing plugs on the internet and allowing access to the alternate HDD from each selected boot. Also is there an online training facility where I can learn more about programming system modules and changing startup files and defaults. I did do a Microsoft course years ago on NT4 but my notes and memory have gone astray

I had partitioned my HD to run XP (pro sp3) and Vista. Not liking vista, I deleted it and merged the two partitions into one, XP. Now when I boot I still get the option to boot to vista or an earlier OS. There is only one OS so I thought that would just be gone. Its not. How do I get rid of that screen at start so it just boots into xp, I'm being careful because I tried to reverse them when I partitioned it and ended up with a real jumbo

Problem: I am unable to connect to the internet.I have a new build dual boot system with Vista x64 SP 1 Home Premium on C: drive Seagate 120G 7200, XP Home Edition SP 2 on E: drive Seagate 160G 7200. A third Seagate 500G is for games, etc. Vista was installed first and the internet connection works. XP works well except I cannot make an internet connection. I have a Linksys WRB54G router which takes its internet connection from my cable company's modem. I have 4 ethernet connection points: 1 goes to a desktop, another goes to a notebook, the third goes to the computer in question and the fourth is unused. This router also has wireless capability. My build chassis is a Thermaltake "Kandalf" LCS, 1000W CoolerMaster, XFX 790i Ultra MB, Core2 Duo E8500 at 3.16 GHz, 4gig Corsair DDR3 in two 2gig sticks, two XFX 9800GX2 in quad SLI, a cd/dvd drive, and a floppy, kb, and mouse. Motherboard has two ethernet ports, one in use (Vista).I am not familiar enough with networking to know how to proceed. The Connection Wizard is no help, 'specially since I don't know what I am doing.

i just had some problems...obviously... anyhoo, i tried to make another partition to install Windows XP on, but after installing, i don't get the option to boot into vista...which is quite worrying...i also have some "ubuntu remains" but cannot boot into the Linux OS because i deleted the files thinking that that would get rid of it. but then i have to repair my vista installation using the cd from a friends computer. (Windows Startup Repair after booting from CD)

when I had a second HD for storage and format it in Vista, everything is fine, I can move files in and out of it, no problem.Then I shut down and boot up into XP. When I go to access the drive its says its unreadable.Then I shut down and go back into Vista, it now says its unreadable. So I have to do a full reformat for it to work again

A couple days ago, I was running Vista and XP on two seperate hard drives on my desktop. I have since deicded to use the Vista hard drive for data storage and have removed it from my desktop.However,whenever I boot up my desktop, my computer still goes to the black windows uploader screen and askes me to choose and "Earlier version of windows" (the XP) or my non-existant Vista.

I'm going to build a new computer. It will have a new 500 GB Seagate 7200.11 32 MB cache. I want to reuse my current 500 GB Samsung Spinpoint 7200 RPM 16 MB cache, which is currently used only for backup storage. What's the best way to have both XP and Vista on the new computer (which is also possible to do)?Vista on the new Seagate; XP on the the old Samsung (will all my files be wiped out during the installation?)The reverse of the above XP on 100GB partition on the new Seagate; Vista on the remaining 400GB; use the old Samsung as I have been all this time.
