I have folders on a USB stick, which I ahve tried deleting in the past. Now inside each folder is one file titled U¬U¬SWIN.4.1 - 0KB each. When i click on delete an error message appears saying: "Cannot delete U¬U¬SWIN.4: Cannot find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path and file name." I can still add files to the USB, but I it looks like it's full with folders and looks messy. It's just really annoying.

I guess the question asks what I'd like to know. I'm trying to set up the programmable keys on my new keyboard and I'm supposed to type in the file paths.

My 2nd drive isn't allowing me to delete any files from it. when i try i get an error that reads "error deleting file cannot find specified path". this started occurring when the wires on the drive came loose causing the drive to intermittently lose power. i fixed that and now i'm screwed.what i've done: i tried deleting from safe mode and that didn't work. i checked all the wires on my drives and they are fine now. i got a program called "moveonboot" that deleted a few files, but i want to fix the problem, not find a way around it.

I am running windows xp sp3. I tried to uninstall Frost Wire, via add or remove programs. I noticed that after it supposedly uninstalled from the a or r file the shortcut was still listed on my desktop. So I searched for F W and found a few references that popped up after my search. When I right clicked on them and tried to delete, that is when I received the above error message

Where does Win Xp store the System Restore files? I'd like to save some disc space by not keeping every restore point. As it is, I have a couple of restore points that I created when I knew things where stable and that's really all I want.

I was wondering if anyone knows the file path ( if there is one) that would let you open the recycle bin via task manager (new task run) under win2k pro? I just had a call from a friend who, after installing google tool bar (by "mistake" )then used the search function and removed all of the files by hand .The end result was that the pc hung, and when she restarted explorer.exe does not start,(therefore no desktop, start menu etc) task manager does however function and i have managed to get her to open programs that way As she deleted the files to the recycle bin i was wondering if there is a way to restore them by opening the recycle bin threw task manager? if there is then presumably i would need to give her the file path, and was wondering :-
A/ if it is possible to do this &
B/ (if it is) if any kind person knows the file path to the recycle bin .exe ? I realize that this might not be possible and it might seem a lot more involved than simply poping in the win2k CD and doing a repair on the OS, but having done this with her before i know it will mean spelling out every action.

I'm sure this has been asked and answered but I couldn't find it with a search so here goes again. Is there a way to change the file path for the desktop in Windows 2000 without a tweak tool? I'd prefer a simple registry edit if possible.I would like to store the files on my desktop to another partition than my default profile path under C:

I think the program is located in the maps folder. The problem, I think is with the \ in the syntax. How do I make the location agree with the \maps folder?

I looked in the folder that it did import, only to find another identical folder. I opened that folder, only to find another identical folder. I opened that folder, only to find another identical folder . I have no idea how many folders it made, but I just want to get rid of them. So I found the folders in My Documents and tried to put them in the Recycle Bin,

I can't access Control Panel components anymore, such as Display, System, or User Accounts. Specifically, this error appears when attempting to open one of these: On some help forums rundll32 was pointed to as the cause of the problem, and I found entries in Comodo's Defense+ Log where various programs (mostly explorer.exe) were calling rundll32.exe, but it was being blocked everytime.I have tried disabling Comodo (and ending the proccess) but it doesn't make a difference.

I believe I have committed a fundamental eejit blunder. For reasons that are too complicated to explore here I cleaned my 140 gig Seagate C Drive (no, not that reason) with two wipes using the Kill Disk programme. I then re-installed XP Pro which also includes a formatting phase. All appeared well as I installed AVG anti-virus, Zone Alarm Pro, and Ad Aware; I then loaded Picasa, Adobe and all the bits and pieces that make for fun and utility.

I have a strange problem with my home-built PC;when I open "msconfig via the run box on H D "E",I try to set safe-mode boot option, but it shows the boot.ini file from my "C" H D , I have been using my "E" H D as my primary(because the "C" drive had been recently infected by trojans/malware,etc. making me have to do a "repair" install of Windows X P, I would like to know if anyone on this forum knows how to either use regedit to change H D "E" the file path file of "E" boot.ini file ,or any recommendations other than reinstall Windows XP w/SP 3?

After installing the Japanese language pack in XP, the file path / delimiter has been replaced by the yen sign. I have uninstalled the language pack but the problem persists. All new file paths now look like this -- C:Documents and SettingsJoe BloggsDesktop. And the / key still produces /, so it's not just a key substitution. XP SP 2 fully updated.

Recently I've been trying to install XP SP2 on a system that was recovered using an XP upgrade disc that only had SP1. The setup program gets through backing up, creating a restore point and so on, but during the actual file installation process, an error causes setup to abort and undo all changes made (rollback). "Service Pack 2 Setup Error." is the title bar, and "The system cannot find the path specified." is the message, the only option is to click ok, which opens the XP SP2 uninstall wizard. I've tried using Subinacl to reset security settings, tried installing in both safe and normal modes, used chkdsk /r and /p and tried installing again, and each time got the same message.

My 'restore' has completely disappeared. I followed the advice given on in one of your forums, going to start/run/inf and then right clicking sr.inf and then install. I received a pop-up box asking for the file path (a path is already given, but it must not be correct) as well as a message stating I need to insert my xp service pack two cd and that I should then reboot. I did this, but I still receive the same pop-up and message. I don't know what path to type and obviously, when I rebooted, I didn't install anything. I tried to figure out how to extract just what I needed from the cd but I admit it, I'm a deer in the headlights.

I have a Lenovo Thinkcentre PC, with windows XP. I'm having a problem with the PC in that although I use an external hard drive to make sure the PC hard drive is not full and have very little saved on the actual PC, when I look in properties on the 'C' drive by right clicking on the 'C' drive icon, it is showing that there is 118GB used and only 26.1GB free space (total capacity 144GB). But when I go into the 'C' drive and manually explore all the different folders, there is nowhere near this much space used. Probably less than 5Gb that I can account for. I think it is drastically slowing my system, and also every few days I get a message that my computers performance is degraded and that I should defragment. I was under the impression that you didn't need to defragment anywhere near this frequently....

I KNOW there are applications running, since I have Spy Sweeper, NIS, and others in the system tray at the bottom. I have run updated Spy Sweeper, NAV, Spybot, & Adaware, and although I located and removed various items, this problem still plagues me.I want to get into RUN so I can access msconfig so I can check out the start up menu.

How can I get my task manager back to the normal viewing that I am used to?

This is only SOME exe's. Particularly, older programs. Word, excel, WordPerfect all work. Older apps don't.
I've tried the exe fixes on dougknox.com site and kelly's corner XP fix.

When creating system restore points, Windows (XP Pro) saves copies of the registry. (I think Windows keeps backups of the registry even if System Restore isn't enabled.) I'd like to find all copies of the registry (besides the active one, of course) and erase them. I'd be grateful for guidance.
