Computer Will No Shut Down - Virus Scans Turns Up Negative
Feb 14, 2006
After I have been running my computer for a half a day I try to power off and my computer will not power off. Sometimes it will take 5 minutes to shutdown or it will not shutdown at all. I have spyware and virus scans and it turns up negative. Do you think it is hardware problem or software
lets make this short and simple I have been getting this error for quite a while now and have tried to get it fixed on google this is the error I recieve: STOP 0x0000001e KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED in win32k.sys I have determined the cause of this with windows 2000 sp2 and 3 but I use windows 2000 sp4 and I have found nothing about this happening in sp4. It also runs somewhat different as it happens randomly and not as microsoft says with animated cursors, though it seems to happen more often when im trying to play a game, also when I try to do virus scans my computer will all of a sudden restart on me after a bit, im not sure if its always at the same place as the virus scan usually freezes up before my computer restarts, I have tried using Housecall and McAfee virus scans but it happens with both.
My friends computer turns on for 5 seconds and turns off and during that 5 seconds preiod the computer makes a weird noise like beping sound. His computer is Dell and its XP iam affarid i dont have much of his computers specs. If any one can suggest how he could solve it.
I mainly want to know if their is a site that can scan my computer to see if there are any trojans or worms. Any kind of stuff that a hacker could put onmy computer or anything that may have passed through my firewall.
Running an e6600 everything good, then I ran some malware scans then trouble started. Every minute or so, my computer will lag for 2-3 seconds. Example, 1. I click on a link nothing happens for 2-3 seconds or 2. I type address into my web browser, and letters don't show up for 2-3 seconds. Anyone know what's wrong? Possibly hard drive going to die?
Running XP on a Sony PVC-RX770 (3 years old). I can never get to a secure site. Message says to re-set security levels which I have done over and over. I have tried restoring system to earlier times with negative results. Sony did not help. I can't even load Norton, buy things, see my bank statements, etc. Here may be a clue. I am sometimes told my system won't accept ActiveX code. I am also told I need to add a drive. I press continue and system runs OK (except the the security problem).
I HAVE A FRIENDS COMPUTER HERE..when you turn it on it starts up you can hear it going but.thats all it does! there is a new power supply in it i tried hooking up another hard drive figureing the drive was bad..nothing...tried to open the cd rom wont work not even a light on itput in old cd rom i had it opened up but when i attached the rom to the board..it wont open unattach it and it works(with ribbon cables)the monitor i have (2 of them)will not workwhen attached. i dont know what is on it i think win 2000!there is 266 mb ram.dont knowif pentium or celeron or what speed.
For an unknown reason about a month ago, my computer turns itself back on after I have powered down. I have to turn off the power back at the surge protector to keep it from starting itself back up. Apparently, I pulled an "automatic wakeup switch" but do not know what or how to turn it back off. Now when my wife hollers for me to get off the computer and start the dishes, I can't just power down and leave the room. I have to wait for windows to close and the computer to shut off, then crawl behind the desk and turn off the power source before I can get away.
o.k here my problem the computer turns off by its self and every thing on my desktop goes away but not my wallpaper it stays on anyone have any idea way is this happening?i run spy sweeper 4 and it did dont found anything.
I have a Window XP and for some reason the computer is turning off and on by itself. This have happened before. Sometimes it turns on then it turns back off by itself. What's wrong? Can it be a virus?
At night, I turn my system off using a "shutdown" icon. Each morning, the computer is back on.I ran AVG and found nothing. I keep Zonealarm updated and running as well as MS anti-spyware and Spyware Blaster.I recently deleted all scheduling in AVG, but it didn't help. It's been doing this for a while, but at first I thought it was just me not shutting the system off. The last couple of times I watched to make sure the computer had turned off. I've also been disabling my internet connection before shutdown. It's not My imagination - but what could it be?
I came back home yesterday night to see my brother (again) bug the hell out of my computer I don't know if he installed something wrong or delete a file or whatever He did something I can't fix myself(I usually fix pc problems myself)Like I said, on the title,Start > run (gone),I can't shutdown my pc without clicking on Logoff.I only have one user account, which is me/admin
this is rather annoying, at random times my computer automatically turns off. sometimes it restarts but other times i have to repeatedly press the power "on" button in order for it to turn on again. why might this occur and is there any solution?
I was leaving to work, so I left the computer in standby. I got home about 7 hours later and when I tried to return to desktop, the fan went on loudly but kept on going and nothing would be displayed on the screen. I just turned it off by the front panel button and went to sleep. This morning, I tried unplugging the whole machine from the electricity plug and replugging it in..well it worked! It started but the fan was constantly working for some reason.I downloaded SpeedFan and at the time the temp was like 43 (normal?). Then I turned it off to see what was wrong with the fan. I opened the box and did a small vacuum just trying to collect the dust.after that NO LUCK.The computer doesn't even come on anymore. I have important files on it.I'm going to be screwed.
This sight has always been a God Send and someone has always helped me brilliantly, considering my knowledge of computers only goes so far.A friend from Iraq has a computer and his children always seem to mess it up. He has one of his friends work on it and it does always come back to life but I have downloaded a few things on his computer to scan and get rid of all the bad stuff.Okay, so this last time, a friend fixed it and now he can not go under "Guest" without the computer shutting itself down and when I told him he could just eliminate guest, he said he had things saved on it he doesn't want to lose.
My computer boots up and runs fine for several minutes to a few hours then all of a sudden the monitor screen goes black and (if it is on the screen) the mouse pointer gets big. I have to reboot and then sometimes it will work fine for as long as I am using it. Sometimes it does the same things several hours later or several minutes later. In other words I have not been able to establish a pattern for when it happens. Anybody have any ideas what may be going on? I use Windows 2000 Pro, Amd processor(sempron), 512 Megs of RAM, Computer motherboard about a year old.I got windows 2000 installed because I could not get XP registered with MS after old MB died. I kinda like Win 2K better anyway.I have cleaned out my case and tried to make sure processor is not overheating.Just am stumped as to what may be the problem.
I started out having a trojan or a virus that kept me from being able to do much on my computer, and I was running VERY slow. So I tried doing a Restore point and that did not do, because my computer could not find a restore point it could work from. I had several, but I would get an error message saying I could not use that restore point. Anyway, I then decided to reformat it. After I did that, my monitor started acting up. It has NEVER done this before... It would be on, and I would be computing right along, and all of a sudden my monitor would just go black! Then it would completely log off. I would get a message saying there was no connection. It never did completely turn the computer off (like some errors usuallly do) it was JUST the monitor, but I could not get the monitor to come back on unless I turned the computer off myself and rebooted it. I did a reboot and it worked for about 30 minutes and then started doing the same thing all over again, but this time it would only work about 10 mintues then shut down the monitor. I would reboot and the same thing would happen over and over again.
I went to microsoft online and looked for the Windows XP downloads and decided to try and update anything I needed. It did all the updates and said I had something that was damaged and needed repaired so it fixed that problem and I tried it again after the reboot. Still nothing helped the problem. My DH first thought it may be the video card. He opened it up to check and found it was very dirty and dusty around the fans etc.so he cleaned it, hoping that may have been the problem and put it back together. I tried it again and got the same thing! NOW, it will work about 2 minutes before it turns itself off! So tonight he is going to try a different video card in it and see if that helps...if not he said it may be the motherboard. Do you have any other suggestions as to what may be causing this problem? I am at a loss myself.I have also ran my ZoneAlarm Suite, nothing picked up, McAffee, found nothing, AVG found nothing, I did a disk defrag and that did not help either. I uninstalled all the antivirus and antispyware and still did not help. I now have only the McAffee running on it. (By the way I did not have all the antivirus programs running at the same time, ever.)
I have windows xp on a gateway laptop and I followed the steps to reformat by deleting the existing partitions and then after I choose the blank? partition and hit enter it gets to about 20% and my computer shuts off! I have no idea what to do next. I don't know anything about computers really at all.
I have a HP 2800 (2.8) AMD Athlon running XP home. When the computer goes to standby (power switch flashing) and I touch the keyboard to bring it out of standby, the computer turns itself off. The fan seem to be working ok.
Recently I moved back to Australia from Washington State. I unpacked my harddrive and loaded up the computer. I noticed that the fan will kick off when I turn on the computer, or sometimes in the middle of doing something online. The computer is in a cold place so I know it's not overheating, the fan is loud and it turns off and on rapidly, and just whenever. The area around the computer is well ventilated.
my computer just out of the blue will turn off, almost as if all power is cut off to the computer, it doesnt safely shut down it blacks out and cuts off BOOM, off. once it turns off, if i try and turn it on again, it will power up for about 3 seconds before it turns off again...? if i wait a little longer, it powers up for longer before it turns off again until if i wait about 10 minutes it will fully power up until the next time it will randomly turn off without warning, any signs or notice.
So the computer will boot the existing windows fine, im on it now, but when i go to format it, you load up the windows screen after post, and you get to the blue screen and it says please wait, where you should have the list of options, it simply turns the computer off. This does it with both my origional and genuine XP cd and also a copy of a stripped out version.
i dont kno why but my computer just doesnt work anymore, everytime i turn it on and it gets to the windows xp loading screen the computer restarts just as its about to continue on to the log in screen. i think it maybe my hard drive failed on me,
My computer turns off while I run any anti spyware program like spybot or ad-aware. This also happens if I try to run AVG or Avast anti viruses. Needless to say I cannot get rid of any spywares or viruses on my computer. What can I do to get the computer to run cleanup programs or should I just get a new computer?
I have had problems in the past with trojan horses and what not, and thought I had cleaned my computer out. It was running ok for a week or 2, and now it has slowed way down, taking forever to even open up "my computer." Also, a problem that I've had before has returned, which is that the computer will randomly shut off while im using it, while its idling, anytime. I have a dell inspiron laptop running windows xp.
Few days back when I tried to play the game" Texas Holdem Poker 3D deluxe edition" my suddenly turned off (Not Restart). This happened after 10 min or so. Whenever I tried to play the game my PC turned off. I thought there was a problem with the game. But yesterday when I tried an old game Brian Lara Cricket 99 SE (a 3D game) after playing for 8-10 min my pc turned off again. This happens every time I try to play. When I turn my PC on I get scan disk during start up. What could be the problem?? I can't play.My PC config(quite old): P4 2.66 Ghz, 1GB DDR.
I downloaded a file a while ago.Its a DVD file. The site i used is an official site. The download appeared on my desktop.I then moved the file to "Microsoft My Private Folder".When it was moved i clicked on the file and the PC turned off.I restarted the computer and tried to right click on the file and the same thing happened.I then went to C Drive,All programs and tried to delete "Microsoft My Private Folder but that didnt work eiter.Access was denied.I ran a virus check and it was ok no virus.I have Windows XP on a HP Desktop.
These symptons and problem have started within the past week, without warning: My laptop is now particularly slow, the mouse lags, as does the internet - especially videos and music starts. Also, there is a "service.exe" application error that occurs a split second before the computer turns off, so on the "windows is shutting down" screen. Consequently I'm an unable to read the error code. I presume the services.exe error and the slowing down are related.
