I have windows XP. suddenly it restarts at any time. just reading an email, no obvious reason for it. I tried to do a virus scan but it shut down before it would run very long. I did winsock xp fix and that didn't fix it. What can I do to fix this?
View 4 RepliesWhenever I insert a disc for a game, nothing happens unless I click on the shortcut. This may not sound like much of a problem, but It is if I want to re-install a game. The same thing happens with game demo DVDs. I've tried entering D:setup.exe. into the Run box, as a game instruction manual told me to do, but it comes up with an error message:"D refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disc is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the internet or your network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location."In the manual (which happens to be for Freelancer, but that's not important), it says "type D:setup.exe (where D represents your CD-ROM drive)". I don't know whether D is my cd-rom drive or not, how do I find out? Or can I just click "enable autorun" or something similar somewhere, and will this solve the problem? Also, this may or may not be related, recently, the button on my keyboard which closes the disc tray has stopped working, I now have to manually push the tray in (there's no button on the computer).
View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm having problems with my HP 6122 printer, trying to print a cover for a family history.The cover contains a small b/w photo in center, a caption of one line and framed with a thin blue line, and the whole page framed with the same blue line on the border.I wanted the photo to be printed in "best" as anything less bring moire to the photo.Every time I have tried to do this, the printer does nothing for a minute or so, then proceeds to print the entire page black. What has happened?I can't afford to waste any more black ink, even when I'm watching so I can stop the printing before the whole page is covered.I usually have 2+ inches before I can see it to turn the Printer off.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI just put a new 250GB HDD in an Intel D865 GLC motherboard with a 3GB Pentium cpu, but I can't get online! And I installed a new XP Pro.There's a net adapter built into the mobo: 1394 Net Adapter. It says it's connecting, but when I go thru the wizard for either the internet connection or the network connection, it doesn't get read. The little screen moved halfway toward connectivity and then it gives me a new page. I thought I'd work around it by disabling it, and I installed a D-Link NIC. The computer won't even recognize the D-Link! The Device Manager says it's working properly. I called Comcast, twice, and they came to the conclusion after going thru various routines that my computer is not reading the 1394 Net Adapter.

I just got a new computer with WinXPHome. All works OK except I can not receive my email into OE 6, all email stays with AT&T's Webmail, which I do not want to use. My old Win98 computer has no problems with getting my email. The settings on both computers are the same. I have disabled NAV email scanning. I have no idea what to do. I like OE, and want to continue using it.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been using Adobe Photoshop for awhile now and I seem to have a serious problem. Sometimes, when I'm using it, the computer just restarts without any error. This happened to me a few times. I tried Norton Virus Scanner, Adaware, Defragment, and System Restore. But sadly... it still doesn't work...It happened again when I was using spy bot and listening to music... what is the problem??
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have been looking into this computer restarting. I have downloaded recent drivers and updates. I looked at Microsofts suggestions. After the bsod if comes back up and the error reports says they are not sure what it is but it has something to do with antivirus.
Here is the event. It seems to happen whenever they are playing games or online. sometimes they will just go back to the desktop and the program will close.
Ok so I just fixed a computer and reinstalled the Operating System. I booted it once an installed all the drivers again then restart it. Upon doing so it failed to boot the operating system. I rebooted it again and said start Windows in safe mode. This results in the Windows XP loading screen appearing but when it goes away the whole system restarts. The same thing happens no matter what I select on the "Windows did not start up last time" screen.

If I try to open it up in safe mode via msconfig from run, it just restarts the computer in normal mode. The only new process I did last night was back up my whole C Drive onto an external hard drive. When I got home this afternoon, the computer starts as normal then I get the error message asking me to choose to "Start Windows Normally" or "Last Known Good Configuration". View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Dimention 2350 , Windows XP Home edition, SP2. The computer just shuts down at time without error messages. I can be on the net or running any program. Then it just restarts as if I I pushed the start button. A few times , when it restarted, it loaded me into the page that you get when you tap F8 at startup. I think it's clean from viruses. I have run Spybot and SuperAnti Spyware and AVG.It has ZoneAlarm for a firewall and runs AVG antivirus. When I opened the inside of the case, it was very clean. No dust on the "fins" or any dust buildup anywhere. I ran PCPitstop and it said 3 drivers were out of date and I believe that I have updated 2 out of 3 of them

I am unable to figure out he prob. The cds worked well few days back but now no cd is working and whenever u insert the disc the comp boots again.
The problem im having is that my computer just randomly at anytime restarts on its own...it mostly occurs when im starting up the computer...but when i am also just doing things on the computer like surfing the net...it just restarts sometimes...any help?

This would indicate a phone problem, but for old times sake I blame windows. Also, if there are other alternatives to windows explorer that would be a very efficient way to find out if there is any blame to be guided towards windows.
