I keep getting windows pop-up balloons from the start bar next to the clock telling my my PC is infected with a "back-door" trojan (at least I think that's what it said). What do I do? I have Nod32 but clearly it hasn't blocked it and I'm not quite sure how to use it. I have run Spysweeper, but am still getting these messages.

Below is exactly what it says:oobebaln.exe - Application Error <X> The instruction at "0x77f517e2" referenced memory at "0x76fd7896". The memory could not be "written".Click on OK to terminate the program<<OK>>..I've searched the registry and all I can find is "oobe.exe" but that's all. Nothing containing the dialog in the popup at all. Has anybody experienced this? I'm running XP(home) on a Sony VAIO computer.

View 11 Replies View RelatedCurrent problems:A program called PestTrap installed itself and continuously pops up a warning window in the bottom right from the desktop tray.A different icon showed up in the desktop tray that does something similar called MalwareWipe.Something has reset his homepage to securityuptodate.net and any time he changes his homepage, it resets back to securityuptodate.net.There was a popup right as I began looking into the problems he's been having that came up and was talking about a virus called "W32.Myzor.FK@yf" and that apparently his computer is "in danger" and that I should click "OK" to download official Microsoft security updates (or something along those lines).

When I click on ok it says would you like to update your security software and install registry cleaner? Once in a while it keeps popping up from that icon that my computer has detected spyware infection and has corrupted the registry. Virus program shows nothing, well it showed threat of bloodhound and said it cleaned it but that is it. How do I get this off my taskbar and how do I get all the icons off that I dont want to run.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI am servicing computers everyday for both business and home users and the vast amount of computers are infected with this whole family of viruses by names like Personal Security, Window Anti-virus, Antivirus7, Security Guard etc.I see these ransom-ware infections getting past everything from the free Anti-virus programs to the most expensive anti-virus programs, especially with home computers that are use for Entertainment Purposes and always because the users were browsing the Internet and are tricked into clicking on a fake warning of infection or security risk. Once they are tricked into that initial click, life goes downhill rapidly as the infection installs itself and then takes deeper root as the user clicks on subsequent fake screens. If they don't register the fake program, it will proceed to convince them to register by progressively turning off more and more Windows features.My question to the knowledgeable users of this forum is:Does anyone know of an antivirus/spyware program or combination of programs that can catch these infections as they initially try to install from that first ill-fated click while browsing the Internet?I have tried all the Big names to varying degrees of disappointing success.Would registered versions of MalWarebytes or Super AntiSpyware be effective?

View 2 Replies View RelatedBoot up was extemely slow and would not allow internet (dsl) connection. I have fixed that by using the wireless card instead as I believe a driver is gone. I now no why she didn't want it anymore. When I ran spybot it came up with 37 items for removal. I have also run AD-Aware which continues to find some trojan viruses. I also have Avast running. I have reached the the extent of my tech abilityand although it seems to run better I still believe it is infected.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering if it's safe to do that. I would guess that individual documents wouldn't be infected. I wouldn't want to infect my new computer. Afterwards, I plan to reformat the drive and re-install the operating system. The infected machine is an older one, so I may use it for simple word processing or older games or give it away. I know that reformating won't destroy old files beyond recovery but I'd hope it would take care of any viruses. I don't have any personal economic info on it since I haven't used a program like Quicken or Money.
I know the machine has at least one virus (about.com) and may have others since many of the programs that should take care of this stopped working after I installed Windows Service Pack 2. I gather others had similar problems after doing the same. Perhaps the most annoying is that I can't access the icons on the bottom of the screen. That includes files you minimize.
can only boot in safe mode. ran rkill and malwarebytes and found/deleted all the infected objects with the exception of 3.i am unable to even run malware bytes or anything else d/t windows shuts down after a couple minutes of running.
