Downloaded A Screensaver - Delete It?
Feb 17, 2006I have a problem. I downloaded a screensaver I don't like. It went into the screensaver in the display area. Is there anyway to delete it or any other ones I don't want? I have windows XP. me.

I ran ad-awarer and there were 14 objects that read "possible browser hijacking". When I tried to delete them the PC crashes. What's going on. The other glitch so far is I can't change my homepage.

Jan 23, 2007Thought I would see if someone could tell me what to look for or try on this ladies computer. She had Windows 98 on her computer. Her daughter gave her an XP disk so she put that on her computer, I guess she just put it on over the windows 98, anyway she said trhe xp worked great for she said about 90 days but now when she turns the computer on nothing comes up but the screensaver. The way I understand it is it just acts like it is starting but just show a screen saver and thats it. Can anyone tell me what I could try to help this person, my first thought was maybe she did not activate the xp but then it would not run for 90 days it would quit after 30 days. Even if that was the case shouldn't I be able to get the windows 98 back for her? would it hel;p to use a windows 98 start up disk?

Jun 10, 2003To be able to set your own screensaver, follow the following instructions: Go to run and type gpedit.msc Navigate through User Configuration>Admin Templates>Control Panel>Display Double click Screensaver Enabled and apply. Was I to save any other extensions, because I added the .EXE file to the System32 folder and it won't show up in my screensaver folders....?It fully launches when I double click in the system folder, but I want it in the specific screensaver folder.

Jan 26, 2005Running WindowsXP with SP2. Word 2003. OE6. IE6. Have HP 1210 all-in-one and Canon BJC2010. Both work fine. Problem when I wish to print a document, or e-mail text, or whatever, and click on ctrl+P, or use File menu, or whatever, I always get the printer I do not want to use. I use the HP for scanning and copying, particularly in color, and prefer the Canon for regular printing from Word or OE or IE. But somehow each time, I get the HP rather than the Canon. Now on the window for printing they always have a list of options, so this is not a crisis, just a request to lower the nuisance titre a bit. There should be a place to go to select a default printer.

When I go into properties to select a picture, all the options are highlighted and I cannot deselct them. In Windows Explorer, when I right click, set picture as backround, nothing happens.I've tried restarting and setting the theme to default, but even then the default wall paper doesn't show up.However, when I try to restart my computer, or turn it off, right before the screen changes to the logoff display, the old background image I had set shows up, but only for less than a second.

If I hit the preview button it works fine but when I wait for X amount of minutes for it to turn on it never does. I use it so that it will log me out automatically and auto turn off my monitor after so long, it is very handy.

If I go into properties>Screensaver and set the "Wait" time to 5 and press "OK", in 5 five minutes the screensaver will come on. Nov 12, 2006ive just noticed within the last couple days that my sreensaver isnt kicking in. i did install a new mouse this last week, bu ti dont think that would affect it. i wasnt quit sure what was meant by adding the ss to the front of the name, but the only name i could think of is that folder that the pictures are in. the screensaver has worked for years, so i cant think of why it would just stop working, and thats what lead me to believe that the installation of the mouse could have affected it.

Feb 14, 2005Two accounts on my PC--admin and friend with limited access. Friend account, screen saver works 100% normally. Logon screen, screensaver works 100% normally. Admin account (the one I use)--screensaver doesn't work at all. when i go to the desktop properties menu, the mini-preview of the screensaver runs just fine on the monitor image in the menu, and when i select "preview" it runs as it should. I made a desktop shortcut pointing to the screensaver executable and double-clicking that initializes the screensaver, though when you move the mouse or keyboard it snaps back to the desktop without prompting for a password (which is why i want the thing in the first place). I also made a shortcut to lock the workstation, which works fine

Screensaver Resets Its Time
Jul 3, 2008This is not important, but a puzzle. I have XP Home. No matter what screensaver I use, the time setting will eventually reset itself to one minute and the screensaver may not start. This happens with Windows screensavers and also with imported ones. Has anyone else had this and can it be fixed?

Jun 18, 2007I have a Dell D610 laptop running WinXP Pro. The screen is an SXGA+ (1400x1050 resolution). I have a docking station at home and use a 19" wide screen LCD monitor (1440x900). My docking station at work has a 23" wide screen LCD monitor (1920x1200). The laptop and home 19" monitor look good at normal size (96 DPI) setting. However, the large 23" monitor needs the Display DPI Setting increased to large size (120 DPI) for my old eyes.
The problem is having to constantly change between normal and large display DPI settings. This change requires a reboot to take effect. Is there a program or script available that will run at startup and allow me to choose the DPI setting? Even better would be a startup script that detects which monitor is in use and sets the display DPI accordingly.
