Aug 26, 2005Anyone know why my screensaver & power settings don't want to work right when I have a Microsoft wireless mouse attached? I switch to a wired mouse, and everything works perfect.

Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0
Mar 20, 2005I have the Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0, have installed the intellipoint 5.0 software prior to connecting the mouse. Plugged in the receiver and all worked fine for a while. The pointer moves to the middle of the left side of the screen and then acts like it is on an elastic band. As you try to move anywhere, always returning to the middle left of screen, making the mouse unuseable. Found the software update to 5.2, uninstalled 5.0 and installed 5.2, again worked fine to start then problem arose again.I am as happy as you can be that there are no known viruses/trojans etc etc.
I have completed the mouse software/registry removal as per Microsoft Knowledge base for xp and re-installed 5.2, fine in the first instance but again after an undertermined time problem was back again.Thought it may be a faulty mouse so have had it exchanged, again fine for a while but then problem back again. So have decided it MUST be software oriented. Have removed rubbish from the system and the registry, on reboot fine for a while then problem back again. Have tried the USB and PS2 connections with the same result for both. Connected a standard cabelled PS2 mouse and it works fine. I have also tried moving the receiver unit to various places within its cable range to see if it is suffering interference from monitors etc, no difference seen. Likewise pressing the button on the receiver and mouse to resync them makes no difference.

May 9, 2006I know this is so simple for someone,but not me. I just changed the batteries in my wireless keyboard and now it will not type. My wireless mouse still works. I have had this problem before, but it has been so long ago I can't remember what I did to get it started again. I am using my laptop now.

Oct 28, 2007My problem is : When I called Verizon yesterday, I was told that to connect the printer to the router, I do not need the print server. I was asked to locate the ethernet port at the back of my printer, plug the ethernet port cable and connect it to the Verizon router. Unfortunately, my printer does not have an ethernet port. I was told to call HP,and I did but did not get much help.What should I do to get my wireless printer work? I have a PC and a laptop. Prior to Verizon, I have a DSL and Vonage, both routers and print server did not have the same problem.

Mar 29, 2009I took my daughters Gateway M320 laptop and did a restore from the CDs that came with the laptop. After doing all the Microsoft Updates, ALL the wireless driver installs from Gateway there is no 'Wireless Network Connection' icon. I have also checked Device Manager and there is no wireless adapter. Before this exercise she was running wireless fine. It does work 'hard wired' but no wireless icon.

Mar 1, 2009We have two laptops and one wireless (HP Photosmart C7280) printer. Our laptops both connect to the internet wirelessly through a router. I was able to install and can print wirelessly from my laptop (a Mac) with no problems. However, we cannot figure out how to print wirelessly from my boyfriend's laptop (a Dell). We have installed the printer software and the printer itself on his laptop, and the laptop is able to identify the wireless printer over the network. We made sure that the printer is set to "online" and that file/printer sharing is turned on. But, whenever we go to print any kind of a file, we get an error message simply stating that the printer was unable to print and that we should run the troubleshooter. So, we run the troubleshooter, and we get this message:"The troubleshooter was not able to ping (detect a connection with) your print server. This might be the cause of the problem. Verify that your network is configured correctly and that you are connected to the network."
I am more used to working with Macs and my boyfriend is computer illiterate, so we're a bit lost as to what this means. I was able to set up a wireless network connection on his laptop, but beyond that I'm not sure what else to do. Most of the other advice I've seen online involves a wireless printer that is wired to one computer, and another laptop trying to wirelessly access that printer through the connected computer...if that makes any sense. Our printer isn't wired to anything, and we just can't figure out why it'll print wirelessly on the Mac but not on the Dell laptop. Any ideas?

Sep 18, 2007I have aproblem with my XP machine.when i boot up the small wireless icon says its not connected,Also when i click to view available wireless networks that there are none in range, i reboot the pc and it might resolve it .More often than not it doesnt.Also i sometimes get a yellow exclamation mark over the wlan in device manager.I update the driver and it resolves until next time i boot back up the pc.Wireless switch is on. My 2 other pcs wrk perfect.

Mar 12, 2010If i log onto my computer and just go into network connections, the computer is not able to look for wireless networks. if i hit the button to find networks, it gives me some strange error message. i have noticed though that i can fix the problem if i manually go into services and start the wireless zero configuration service myself. i configured this service to start automatically, and to keep restarting if attempts to start fail, but for whatever reason, the service does not start on its own when i boot the computer. once i start the service, i am able to connect without any problems.
The error message i get says something about finding more than one wirless device. i have a belkin usb wireless card, and before i installed the one i have now, i had another that coincidentally was the same size and also made by belkin. thinking that maybe some software was still on the computer, causing it to find both, and consequently not being able to connect to either, i uninstalled all the software for both routers and deleted all the related program files off of the computer. then i reinstalled and...got the same exact problem.
Random Times Mouse Click Freeze-Mouse Move Works?
Mar 30, 2007I got a new computer and I have been having problems with my mouse. I have a simple optical wired mouse. During random times, my mouse click freezes, although my mouse can move and I can use the key board at this time, I cannot click or focus anything. To fix the problem I can control alt delete and exit the Task Manager, this fixes the problem.

Jan 23, 2007Thought I would see if someone could tell me what to look for or try on this ladies computer. She had Windows 98 on her computer. Her daughter gave her an XP disk so she put that on her computer, I guess she just put it on over the windows 98, anyway she said trhe xp worked great for she said about 90 days but now when she turns the computer on nothing comes up but the screensaver. The way I understand it is it just acts like it is starting but just show a screen saver and thats it. Can anyone tell me what I could try to help this person, my first thought was maybe she did not activate the xp but then it would not run for 90 days it would quit after 30 days. Even if that was the case shouldn't I be able to get the windows 98 back for her? would it hel;p to use a windows 98 start up disk?

Nov 12, 2006ive just noticed within the last couple days that my sreensaver isnt kicking in. i did install a new mouse this last week, bu ti dont think that would affect it. i wasnt quit sure what was meant by adding the ss to the front of the name, but the only name i could think of is that folder that the pictures are in. the screensaver has worked for years, so i cant think of why it would just stop working, and thats what lead me to believe that the installation of the mouse could have affected it.

Feb 14, 2005Two accounts on my PC--admin and friend with limited access. Friend account, screen saver works 100% normally. Logon screen, screensaver works 100% normally. Admin account (the one I use)--screensaver doesn't work at all. when i go to the desktop properties menu, the mini-preview of the screensaver runs just fine on the monitor image in the menu, and when i select "preview" it runs as it should. I made a desktop shortcut pointing to the screensaver executable and double-clicking that initializes the screensaver, though when you move the mouse or keyboard it snaps back to the desktop without prompting for a password (which is why i want the thing in the first place).
