I ahve tried and tried to add sounds to my "empty trash can" and the new Quicken 2006. I have redone the individual programs for the sound I want and saved it and applied it. Everytime I go back the sounds are not there
I don't know how I did it, but I deleted some very important info into my trash and then deleted my trash. It seems my restore system only does a restore once a day, and yesterday at 4:00 doesn't work for me.I thought my old version of widows had something like that. Any ideas
In my windows XP pro SP2, i disable the sounds in sounds and audio devices in control panel. but still i heard the sound when clicking on folders in windows XP.
I have just reinstalled XP to my computer and everything is working well except I have no sound. I have tried CD, radio and just the PC all with no luck.
On an XP PC, when I try to empty the RECYCLE BIN I get an error message: Cannot Delete dc2: Access is denied (If you click OK, you get the window again. Click OK the second time and it goes away)... and it fails to empty it. I can go into the BIN and do a CTRL A and hit delete and all is fine. A search for dc2 shows 6 instances on the PC and they are all know entities in various locations.
the problem is that none of my windows xp system sounds work. if i go into the control panel to try and change the sound schemes, the preview button is grayed out. i also do not get any audio in realplayer or any web sites that use flashplayer like Internet. however windows media player and winamp both seem to be working fine.
My computer was having problems where it would keep on reseting its self at the windows xp screen so i reset it to time it was last working right but now for some reason i have no sound i went to my computer makers website downloaded the audio driver and still no luck. When i go sounds and audio devices it says i have no sound device also when i go to device manager and check the sound one it has no question mark or anything.
All the entries on the "all programs"list show empty although the associated programs are still operative. Any clues as how to fix this? Useing XP Home SP3
The folder for My Documents appears to be empty. If I open it, it basically looks like a blank folder. If I open properties>general for it, it shows that it takes up 0 bytes in size/size on disk, and it has "0 Files, 0 folders".
I'm trying to do some general hard-drive cleanup, and deleting temporary files and whatnot. Regardless of how I select any group of files from any directory, or even from the recycle bin, it simply opens the delete dialogue and says it's deleting, but nothing happens. It stays there interminably. Never finishes, never deletes any files. It doesn't hang , I can cancel and stop it, but nothing has happened in the interim. I'm stumped. I did search and follow the thread on an earlier post MSKB, but that didn't help.
How do I get my visited websites to remain. Twice in the last week, I've lost the recent websites I've visited. I have IE6 and when I click on the drop down for the address bar, the box is empty. People usually want to delete this, but I want to be able to keep it.No viruses or spyware.
i just bought a new laptop. an HP pavilion if it helps. and having copied over some music from my old desktop to the laptop i tried to move 5gigs of music from one folder on the laptop to another one for ease of sorting. i pressed ctrl x and then ctrl v. it was copied ok as i saw it all in the folder. i closed the folder and opened itunes to add the folder to the library. it seemed to not have any music in it.. so then i tried to reopen the folder i just created with the music that was very definately in it. but it is now empty and i get Access is denied.. the music has dissappeared and doesnt appear on any searches i run. i cant delete/open/move or do anything to the now empty folder.it just coes up with D:music is not accessable. access is denied.the odd thing is that i have another 10 folders all empty and undeletable in another bit of my laptop that i want to delete as they are blocking me copying in an addon for WoW.as you can guess im not exactly a genius at this stuff. and just trying to tidy up my pc has resulted in several hours frustration and lots of swearing.
I acquired an 80gb external HD from a freind. It is not clean it so I want compress a lot his files and folders and leave one to side for while till its safe to delete it all. I have permission to delete everything. But I am being a little cautious. The trouble is one of the directory is huge, about 20gb, with many subdirectories and folders. There many instances when whole list of folders are empty. There could be 100s or 1000s of these empty folders. Is there a freeware filemanager with a filter that I can use to isolate all the empty folders and delete them. And how would you use the filter. I would then be able to defrag the HD.
I have gone into my recycle bin on many occasions, and there are never any files in there. At the bottom it also says "0" objects. As a novice, what have I setup wrong, and what can I do to remedy this?
I own at Pentium 4 XP Home Edition PC. Recently, I lost all of my default system sounds--like boot up sound and closing sound. The sound card is okay, because I can play CDs, listen to Real Player and otherwise get sounds.
I have gone into the sounds and audio devices properties panel and don't seem to be able to set it to play the sounds. The test button works the sounds fine, but I cannot actually activate them!
I have troubleshooted by surfing the web, installing various supposed registry fixes. I have also read the Microsoft data base articles that seem to pertain.
I no longer have any system sounds i.e logon, logoff. checked 'Sounds and Audio Devices' in control panel possibly where problem is all other sounds work okay. However in 'Sounds and Audio Devices' on Audio TAB on Sound Playback Default Device is Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio normal. On Sound Recording Default Device is Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio normal. But MIDI music Playback Default Device is blank? Dropdown offers two choices but when I close it and re-open it is blank again I've tried taking TICK out of "Use Only Default devices but when re-opened is back in
I have lost my system sounds, a game's sounds, and internet sounds. Itunes, WMP, and e-mail sounds work just fine. I have updated Adobe Flashplayer and downloaded K Lite Codec Tweak Tool.
I have checked every setting I know of but nothing seems to get my system sounds to work. This all started when I upgraded from W98 Snd. Edition with new mother board memory and hard drive. Have also installed all SP2 updates with no other problems.
At boot up everything seems ok, the nice WinXP jingle plays and all is right with the world. At this point I can play MP3s, video files, and games and the sound works ok. Now occasionally (more often than not) the screen does a very strange refresh about 2 to 3 minutes of the computer being booted. Any open widows and the task bar reverts to Windows 98 look (grey with the old fasioned functionality boxes at the top right of an open window) then as quicky as it changes it all changes back again (say less than half a second) to WinXP look.
After this point only system sounds will play. Now if a programme already has access to the sound device then it works until it is shut down. Anything that tries to access the sound device after this fails to (itunes says there is an audio config error, WMP says that another programme has access to the sound device). I guess whatever that refresh thingy is it is stopping any other programme accessing the driver or preventing the driver to be released to other programmes.
I have become quite irritated by the various strange noises which happen at a "system event". I have found the dialogue box where additional events can be added to the sounds but I cannot see how to turn off the ones already there. I do not want to use "mute all" on the volume control as I frequently listen to music. Any suggestions welcome. While in that area of the screen, I want to remove some of the icons. The dialogue box is set to "always hide" the offending Icons but they are still showing.
I've literally just started having problems with my computer. Sporadically I have lost the ability to right-click, sometimes whenever I do so on either a folder or on an application, no little menu comes up
Also, when browsing through folders, the loading starts to become very slow and sometimes the blue menu at the side of the window isn't there at all. When I click on images to preview, or folders to open, sometimes nothing happens at all and the window just remains the same.
ALSO whilst trying to open some applications I get the error pop-up sound, but no error message box comes up to tell me what the error is. It just makes the noise, and I close the half-loaded application without it crashing (This happened with Photoshop, Adaware, Outlook Express, and once with Sonic RecordNow - all started loading, the error noise was heard, and the program left half loaded or missing parts) I've tried again and it seems it's all hit and miss like the other symptoms...sometimes i'll be able to right-click normally, sometimes i'll be able to browse files normally, sometimes programs will load, but the problem still (at random moments, it seems) arises again.
When Alt Ctrl Delete -ing, either nothing comes up and an error noise is heard, or the little window with the information does come up, but the desktop behind it flickers as if constantly reloading very fast.
The only error sound in which a box popped up, was one telling me "xvidcore.dll was not found". I clicked OK and everything reloaded as if windows explorer had crashed (the start bar, desktop etc).
I haven't done anything as of now, too scared to restart, or try and open any applications it might not like. I can't be exactly sure when I started to have problems, as I leave the computer on for days at a time sometimes (it's been running for about four days this time, about three days is normally the maximum) because I use BitTorrent a lot seeding and downloading.
Last night I burned a cd using WMP 9 and everything was fine. It was done in about 10 min, then afterwards I closed everything and turned my computer off. This morning I started it up, and tryed to play a computer game. All of the sounds were slowed down to about 50%. I quit that and went to WMP to see if those sounds worked. They all played at 50% too. All of the sounds in windows do the same thing.
I get an error message "C00D11D1:cannot play file". When i go into Control PanelSounds and Audio Devices it is telling me that there is no audio recording device or playback device installed
Is there any way to turn off the dialup sound on win xp when you try to connect to the internet on a dell computer? I went in to modems and turned off volume but I still get the sounds.
On a users laptop (IBM Thinkpad) the playback button under Sounds and Audio Devices - sounds - program events is greyed out. They are able to hear sounds. I can play a sound file in Media Player, but no sound otherwise. Also, in Shockwave (I know, not a Microsoft product, but I am just listing this as a troubleshooting issue), they don't hear any sound when playing a.swf file.
