My laptop is running on: Microsoft XP~professional version 2002 service pack 3 intel(R) pro wireless lan 2100 3b mini pci adapter Firmware~ 1.2.5.37 And the problem I'm having is that i cant connect to any wifi with a password on it. Any other device works perfectly fine and the password is correct. Also, when a Ethernet wire is connected i can connect to the wireless connection with no problem...
Have an XP box with a shared printer on it. Have setup to allow, network, everyone, anonymous, guest, etc. Anything to let the people print to it without a password. However to do so, all need to connect to the \ipshare first, enter id and password (and admin acct o n the XP box). Then it prints, until they log off then it repeats. I do not want any prompt for a password. With the old NT 4 system there it worked fine. No password. New system and new printer was put in place. Permissions seem right and like I said I tried adding everything to have ti connect without a password. And the last thing I wan tto do is add every single user to that box as an account.
Long story short. I want to restrict my employees from logging into ANY wireless access point other than the one at our work. Employees have access to laptops for work use and I want to restrict them from being able to take the laptops home and using them on their home networks and then bringing them back to work to connect to the works network. This will reassure that they are not bringing viruses from home and putting them on our network. Unfortunately since they are considered a "work tool" I can not stop them from taking them away from work, but I would like to restrict them from connecting to any other access point other than ours at work. Any suggestions?
In an attempt to use her computer in our apt, she's set it up and tried to boot. Problem is, the computer is going to an error page whenever she boots with the card in place. The specific message is that file ar5200.sys is trying to write to a read-only memory. We then have to shut the system down cold as ctr-alt-del isn't working. So, it's locking up pretty well. With the card not in place, XP is booting fine. We are getting an error code as well, but the computer boots and is working (although running slightly slower). It says system is recovering from a serious error. The error report shows the problem is files in the temp folder? Searching for the specific sys (ar5200.sys) file hasn't given us any help. I just can't seem to find that darn file that's causing the trouble!
I am using a laptop and sometimes I shut the lid and put it into hibernate mode. When I open the lid again and the computer boots back into windows, the wireless internet doesn't work. Windows says my computer is connected to the wifi network but when i open firefox or internet explorer it just doesn't work. I am using windows xp pro.
One question anyone. Is it possible initate a direct connection between a windows mobile device and a notebook computer running windows xp through the wifi that is available on both of them alone? Without having to use any other hardware.
I have a Windows Media Center 2004 edition PC. It connects to my home network via integrated WIFI card.IS there a feature that could enable a Wake on WIFI as opposed to a wake on lan?there is no option on the properties of my wifi adapter, but i'm dying to know if this is possible?
Is it possible to reverse connect a wifi router? Using the wifi router instead, of say, a usb wifi adapter? Has anyone tried this? Would this increase the range of a wifi network?
I always use the computer with user accounts with limited privliges. This is safer, right?I was trying to install the wifi router last week. Now when starting up I get the "admin" user account, not the Welcome Screen, with the user acct. icons. I have not made password for any of the accts., so I get the admin log-in, and simply hit return, and I'm in the admin user acct.. I can see the limited user's folders of documents and favorites, but I can't get into the user accounts.
I had 3 times a blue screen with: 0x0000000c5 (0x0007ef28 0x00000002 0x00000001 0x8054a10d) i haven't added any new hardware or software since building my pc. Is it possible it had anything to do with receiving a huge amount of email (i received some 100 mb yesterday) while i received those emails i tried running spybot s&d and that's when it crashed again. i since checked my ram for errors with the windows tool and after 12 passes still no errors. the only hardware which causes constant problems is my netgear wpn311 wifi card but that has been so since the beginning

I shut down system restore and went into safe mode to clean out spyware, ect. In safe mode, spybot,i used ewiedo, smit, adware. i dont recall but i think spybot was the only program to find an item. When i rebooted in normal XP, i have been unable to connect IE6,Weatherbug,Widgets to my wireless connection. However Firefox is connecting pretty good, atlhough my wireless program is funny, its telling me there is no internet connection as i surf I tried 'internet options' such as resetting IE, i tried that scannow command. again, i dont have the system restore option to use. but also yahoo widgets are not connectiong nor weathebug.
I'm setting up my friends home network. They have 2 PCs connected via ethernet and one laptop on wireless. The router is a wireless router / modem from 2wire. PC number 2 and the laptop both connect with no issues. PC number 1 is weird though. I can go to 192.168.1.254 and it opens up the router system page and I can go through and change and view settings. However when I try to go to any websites it immediately goes to "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage." I have tried netscape and the iTunes store and nothing can connect to the web. I have linux ubuntu on a Live CD and I can boot from that and it connects to the internet just fine.
I'm trying to share folders between two laptops set up on a home wifi workgroup. Currently, both laptops are "seeing" each other's share folders (as mapped network drives), and both laptops have full internet access I have allowed simple file sharing on the XP Pro system. I have also set the firewalls to allow access, and I'm using AVG firewall instead of Windows firewall. However, only one of the computers is allowing access to the other. The XP Pro computer can access the share folders on the XP Home computer, but not vice versa. When using the XP Home computer, I can map the shared folders on the XP Pro computer, but when I try to access them, I get denied access.
I have Windows XP Pro installed on IBM T60 Laptop.Whenever I start the Laptop up,the Windows Security Sey up Wizard appears and I wish to stop this appearing every time.In addition,if I fill in my Windows password on the security wizard the system says that I am using the incorrect password. Please can someone advise me how to solve these problems.
I ran the network setup wizard on both computers, when i go to 'view workgroup computers' and click on the one i want to connect to i am asked for a password, i tried the admin password and the password for the user that ran the wizard -- neither worked .
I have just installed a linksys wireless router onto my desktop computer to add a wireless laptop and for some reason, when the User Logon screen comes up. The hand cursor never becomes a cursor for me to type in passowords to user accounts. I went into safe mode and then into control panel and deleted the passwords for each user acct and now I can get into the accounts but how can I add the passwords again and be able to type them in. We have 3 user accounts on this pc and would like to have them password protected.
I was doing a clean up with Ccleaner etc and in my haste I did not take note of what I was clicking. Spybot Search and Destroy flashed up and I clicked to allow, or not allow as the case may be, to do something to, from what I can remember, 'WLON' or something similarly named. In any case, what happens now is that I fire up the computer, enter my password, the desktop briefly flashes up for a split second(no icons) and then it immediately logs off and goes to password entry again.
My account on my computer (Win XP Pro SP2) is an Administrator account. Over a year ago, I got tired of entering my password because I an the only person that uses this computer. I did something so it would boot without the password screen appearing ( I don't remember what, but I think I left the password line blank). Since the computer boots directly to my account, I am never prompted to enter a password; but if I use Power Options (and the computer sleeps), it wakes to the login screen and I cannot reenter my account. I have to reboot. On the login screen, I have tried leaving the password blank and entering every password I use, but I get an Invalid Password response.
I got Compaq Armada 1592 Its screen said password expired, enter old password, then the new password. I entered old password, tried all sorts of combinations of upper case, lower case I thought I could just bypass that screen and start as new user, but apparently not.
I am currently trying to set up a log in for xp where the user changes based upon only the password you enter. in other words there will only be one user and it will change based upon the password you enter. i also want to be able to tell who logged on and when.
for example say i setting up a business computer that 20 people will use but i don't want 20 accounts i only want one and each people will have a different password and based upon the password they enter i will be able to tell who downloaded what and installed what by knowing who logged on. thanks for the help
had sp2 and other updates installed. uninstalled most of them because...well because i was trying to install older software that worked before sp2 was installed.. anyway, now big problem. suddenly xp asks for password to logon, and this is really strange, i have never in my life had a password for my computer. so obviously no matter what i enter, the computer asks politely if i've forgotten the password
My Brother bought a used laptop from a stranger but it works and everything but the password. Here are more details: It's a Dell Inspiron 2100 and the operating system is windows 2000 professional. The laptop does not include a CD or Floppy drive but it has 1 USB port. now when my Brother bought the laptop we powered it on and it worked fine until a "Log On to Windows" box appear and you need to type a user name and password to log in but we don't have the password and we cannot contact the guy he bought the laptop from so what should we do?
A few days ago I tried to update my families pc to SP2 so I could get all the updates etc. It seemed to install alright, but then when starting up it gave me some drwatson.exe error which ended up freezing the pc. So I did what I thought was safest at the time and that was to go back to a restore point and then maybe try reinstall SP2. BUT, after restoring, windows suddenly showed the password/log on screens. I now can't log on as Administrator OR Guest. Nothing works. I've tried EVERY possible password that I could have used in the passed, but nothing works. So now I can't get into the pc at all. I've tried booting up in safe mode and logging in as administrator with a blank password, but that doesn't even work. I've read a lot about it online, and it seems the only solution would be to reinstall XP. But would that work as a format and erase some of my files and/or settings? Or would it just be like an upgrade?
For a long time, I log on to my Windows XP by clicking on 'Default' without any problem. However, today, the computer did not startup smoothly until after running 'system checkup' automatically. Then, when the logon page came, I click 'Default' but it asked for password. I did try some words or left it blank but XP would not let me logon.
I have been trying to boot from a cd to launch a repair disk, i have the blue screen.
But the promblem (other than the BSoD) is that my Bios is asking for a password and i've never put a password on it. I wouldn't know how. It's a dell laptop so is it possible that dell put it on? Or is this a virus of some kind?

Ive been trying to add a wireless laptop to my desktop dsl. There are only two computers. The desktop win.xp already using dsl from att. And the new laptop with win.vista premium. Next is the linksys router which I cant make head or tails how to hook up. I called linksys and was asked to hold for a tech.that could help me set up the router. After fifteen minutes holding, the line is hung up by them and the phone goes dead. Im no better off now than before I made the call. And still not wired up to go online with the laptop. As for knowing which wire goes where I know nothing, 0, of how to place the wires. So Im hoping someone here can tell me. I went to HELP @ att and couldnt understand how to fix anything. Probably more fault being mine more than theirs.
My buddy recently had a system crash. (XP) He used his system restore cd and all is working well except.he is not able to connect to MSN. We have tried to reinstall but get a not able to connect message. We have restarted, checked the physical connections.
My son cannot connect to any ISP on his PC, he tried AOL and People PC and each time he gets a message " This page cannot be displayed" I believe he said that AOL told him the problem was with his computer, he called the Computer company and they said his problem was not the computer, it was the fault of the ISP.
