i'm not sure what i've done, but my boot times are incredibly slow. i was using diskeeper and they were fine but have switched to perfectdisk 08 not sure if this would have made a problem, i know dk8 boot dfrg is good. Also use ZA pro, but don't download product updates so this shouldn't have caused a problem. I tried a few things one was editing the boot.ini file, except stupid me forgot to save a backup so it is ruined.

Problem started when running Internet Explorer and would receive an error tab every time stating IE must close. The data error was a mcsvrt.dll problem. Now when I start the computer it takes 10-15 minutes to boot completely and accessing Mozilla or any apps after about 3-4 mins takes ages. It's driving me INSANE but I can't figure out if the problem is a hardware or a software one. I have a NetComm NB5Plus4W ADSL2+ Modem Router all the required lights are lit up (ADSL light is solid, not flashing or out). I've restarted a zillion times, checked Windows Firewall (off), checked my AV software (not the problem), run a full virus scan (nothing), run Adaware and Spybot S&D and run a scan at PCPitstop which came back that everything was fine.

I have noticed lately that my computer seems to take an excessively long time to boot up completely - almost 5 minutes. Also when clicking on desktop icons, they seem to also take much longer to load. Windows Explorer (the folder and file management tool, not to be confused with Internet Explorer) is agonizingly slow to rename and open folders and files, sometimes taking close to 2 minutes just to open a 56 KB file. I have done all the usual things like running a virus and spyware scans (I have AdAware, Spybot, Malwarebytes and ATFCleaner, CCleaner as well as my ISP's Computer Associates Antivirus, Firewall and Spyware protection installed), emptying temp files and recycle bin, and defraging the hard drive and I've unchecked "Automatically search for Network folders and printers".
I also did a chkdsk scan and a system restore to before when the problem started. Nothing seems to help the slow response, especially when working with folders and files through Windows Explorer. I have not downloaded or installed any programs recently (only AdAware, Spybot and CA updates), but I did have a new power supply and a new cable modem installed recently. Even the tech that installed the new power supply said he was concerned at how long it took for my computer to boot up, however he only repairs hardware and could offer no suggestions as to what the problem is. If it's any help in diagnosing my problem, my system is an HP Pavilion 750n with a 1.6 GHz Pentium 4 processor and 768 MB RAM. Used disk space is 16.8 GB, unused space is 57.6 GB....
I use my comp alot and installinguninstalling all sorts of stuff.. requiring reboots blah blah blah.. Checking out some other boot times my system seems abit slow.. or it's me being impatiant. My Boot Time is 38 seconds. I've tried every trick on the web i can find.. Programs, Reg edits, MSConfig etc.. and nothing seems to be saving me anytime at all.the only thing that saved me time was uninstalling Zone Alarm saving me 8 seconds, going from 46secs to 38secs.

I am posting a computer problem of "The slowest computer of all"? It takes 5 to 6 minutes to boot and then takes on some dialog boxes when clicking 7 seconds to activate, (Show on Screen) and on others, takes 14 to 21 seconds to activate? Sometime you even see the searching flashlite on the screen when you click. The same thing happens with the right click context menu. This computer is a HP a430n running a AMD Athlon(B) XP 3200+ running at 2.20 GHz. It has 1Gig of ram, a GeForce4 MX440 (Raven) AGP 8x graphic card,Integrated AC97 audio and a Maxtor 250Gig hard drive.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a main WIN XP Home Edition based computer with an Intel 3118 chip, 2GB RAM,190GB Hard drive with 126GB free, additional drive via USB with 470 GB and 399GB free and networked with a laptop and Dell computer all able to read each other. On the main computer I have 60+ icons on the desktop and have Zone Alarm Security Suite and Forcefield running updated.I have cleaned all computers with Crap Cleaner and Esaycleaner have defragged and deleted all unwanted files but still it takes some 9-10 minutes to boot from hot or cold and the close down of programs also takes between 1-2 minutes.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy windows XP pro pc suddenly started to take over 2 hours to start windows to a point where you it is even remotly usable, and even then, simple tasks like opening my computer tackes 20 minuets or more to complete.I have run a host of software and hardware checks, and all come back fine, their are a few bad sectors on the hard drive, so I think a few crucial windows XP files may have been corrupted.System restore doesnt fix this windows issue even when reverting back to the initial configuration from 6 years ago.Is there any way of fixing windows XP without loosing any of the information contained on the Hard Drive?I have tried the install CDs, but they wont install as I have service pack 3 and the CDs pre date service pack 2.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just finished adjusting the services just in case there was something messing with my start up time. Surprisingly enough while the system might have benefited from the services tweaking the start up time is still 2:00 exactly every time. I have an uptime counter on the desktop so as long as it hits 2:00 the network icon appears and together the Bitdefender internet security. I uninstalled bitdefender just in case and this isn't the problem. It looks like my wireless network does not start before 2 exact minutes have passed. The system and everything starts in around 30-40 seconds. Then it is completely idle and when 2:00 minutes have passed the CPU usage goes up again and the network icon appears. Is it possible for the network to wait 2 minutes before it starts? If yes can I change that somehow? Help!! arrg! EDIT: After more service tweaking I managed to make the the wireless to start fast, together with everything else. Now Bitdefender starts after 2 minutes.

PC takes around 8-10 minutes to boot, the XP logo screen comes and goes, hangs for around 2 minutes on a black DOS like screen, no commands etc present, then hangs on the desktop image for a few minutes, then get the Window media sound, a few minutes later explore.exe process starts bring up the tool bar. then a few more minutes, may be 5 waiting for it to start and become active.

My computer takes a long time to the stage where I can start to use it. I mean like 8 minutes or more, could it have to do with the programs that are started when the computer strarts if so how can I find the folder. I am using windows XP home edition I have a 40GB hard drive I only have used 6 gigs of it. I have 256MB of RAM. This problem is new it never took this long.

Hardware is 2.0 Celeron, 1 gig Ram, 64MB Nvidia Video Card, PS/2 keyboard and mouse, HD's are 250GIG Western Digital with 4 partitions and 27% free on the XP Boot and 200GIG Western Digital with 2 Partitions. I have a Lite-On DVD +-R/RW drive and a 3.5 floppy. I am setup with a Duel-Boot configuration Win 98/XP. I do not have a paging file.
My problem occures after I hit enter for the Select Operating System page. I Hit enter, Win XP proceeds to load. After I hit enter and Windows loads the blue welcome screen 1 minute has passed. I hear the Welcome Audio music, however blue welcome screen is still there for 30 more seconds. Next is my picture that I have as my background that is shown without icons for 1minute 21seconds. Windows now displays my icons on my desktop. the icons blink at minute 4. after 4 minutes and 51 seconds I am able to use my computer. At bootup I only have 43 programs running and 357MB of the 1 gig ram taken.
What I have done:
1) I have started in safe mode and defraged my PC, 0% frag on all partitions except a drive that isn't currently plugged in and it was 1% because it's my backup drive (not worried about that 1%)
2)Removing all connected Componets and rebooted, same problem.
3) I have tried using msconfig.exe and setting the startup selection as Normal- it's defaulted to Selective. Tried reducing my startup programs. ....
My computer is very very slow, I don'i think is the dsl but the os because it take long time to load a page for example when Ill click on firefox it take 20 to 30 second to load the page than when the page is loaded and i switche web page it load very quickly, same think when i'm tryng to upload the outlook express more than 40 second to upload the program, and when performing multitask everything it slow doan even more, even opening tha my computer file it take 5/10 second.

Still have the problem.Could this be security related and maybe a bug, would that slow down whole computer not just internet? Should I run all scans and post a Log on security or here?
