somehow or another my address bar url r being deleted everytime i restart my computer. I did have some ad ware, and registry fix software installed but I have uninstalled it and the problem is still there.I have searched around the tool menu for what i thought might be a simple solution but I can't seem to fix this problem.
View 5 RepliesBy mistake I unzipped some Microsoft Flight Simulator texture files to my desktop [from a safe site I have been using for years] instead of the intended FS04 folder. I deleted the files and cleared the recycle bin, the next time I turned on the system all the files were on the desktop again. I restored the system back a few days before the files were unzipped, no luck, the files reappear every time my computer is turned on.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a gigaware 4 port usb 2.0 high speed hub.I used it to plug 4 joysticks in my computer,its been working for a year.all of a sudden today it just stops working.i tried unplugging it and replugging it back in and i keep getting an error message saying "USB Device not Recognized" Is there anyway I can fix this problem?if i plug the logitech joystick into the usb port it works with no problem. I have windows xp.i tried restarting the computer but it doesn't work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows XP professional and when I change my desktop icons (my computer, my documents, my network places, recycle bin full and & empty) they revert back to the default settings when I restart my system. This doesn't effect my wallpaper, start menu settings or personalized colors, only the icons. The file that I'm using is an *.ico file which I know works fine. (I've used this file when I was still using windows 98.) I've also tried making a "theme" with the saved settings and that doesn't seem to work either. I'm wondering if it's some simple setting that I'm over looking. Something stupid like "Restore default icons on restart"...I'd rather not edit my registry if I don't have to.

View 4 Replies View RelatedCurrently when I log onto my computer, it takes more than 5 minutes to load. I have already browsed through many threads and have minimized the number of start-up programs. It was a little better but it still wasn't like how it was before. Also, when I want to shutdown my computer, I have to wait 10 minutes before I will hear the "Windows turning-off sound" and it will shutdown. Does anyone have any clue about how to fix this?
The computer in general appears to be running smoothly once everything is loaded into the computer except for when I want to add/remove any programs where there is a huge lag after uninstalling a program! These problems started occurring about a couple days ago. I haven't been doing anything differently nor have I installed any new programs onto the new computer. I have scanned for viruses using Symantec Endpoint Protection (and no results) and also used CCleaner to clean everything else.
I have had Windows XP for about five years. In the last six months my MS Works history gets deleted after a short period of time and I can't find any files that they would have been moved to. I have heard that this may have been caused by downloading an 'update' to MS Works.
My other problem (which may be related) is that I cannot download the Microsoft service pack. It gets about 3/4 of the way through downloading updates and then shuts down because of 'registration errors'.
I believe I may have deleted something that is causing this.
Each time I turn on my computer and as it is boots up it will delay for a time with a line that reads something like Automatic IDE Configuration and then a message that my date and time are incorrect. The date goes back to Nov. 2003. Once I correct the date, time and year things seem to perform ok.

When I hook up my modem through usb it works fine but unable to utilize my full download speed capabilities. Hooked the modem up via ethernet to laptop and it worked just fine. The only thing I can find wrong that I don't know how to fix or what is causing it is the fact that the physical address of the card comes up as the broadcast address (FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF). Very strange.

So I pressed home button of my key board so the My Computer window converted to a web page. But after that the address bar disappeared. I turned my computer off and back on, and when it came back on, the first thing I noticed was that the visual theme had changed to one resembling an earlier version of Windows. I eventually found a solution to that. Now the remaining problem is that I can't connect to the internet. I am "connected" to my wireless network, but it says "limited or no connectivity." My IP address is listed as 0.0.0.0. When I use the "repair" option for my wireless network, it says it can't renew my IP address. It says the problem is probably with the network. Internet Explorer also says that. However, I know the problem is strictly with the computer itself.
When I renew the IP address myself, it just stays the same--0.0.0.0. I can't connect to the internet this way. I use a Toshiba Portege M400-S5032 with Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005. I have a Netgear 54 Mbps Wireless Router WGR614 v7. Please be patient with me, as I don't know anything about how wireless networking works, or very many technical terms assosciated with it.
We have run across a problem here with APIPA addressing. After we install Windows updates, Windows assigns an APIPA address in the 169.254.x.x range, instead of getting an address from the DHCP server. The effect is that the computer loses connectivity with the network and the Internet. You can confirm this problem by running an IPCONFIG and checking for an address in the 169.254 range.
Releasing and renewing the address does not correct the problem. Assigning a static IP address resolved the issue. Searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base, we found a registry hack that will disable APIPA addressing on the computer, and this does correct the problem so the computer can connect to the network again. We assume that the problem is a result of an update from last Tuesday, but we have not determined which update is the problem. We are still looking. Our concern is that as DHCP leases expire with computers in the field, that this effect may appear. If you get calls for loss of network or Internet connectivity, have the user run IPCONFIG, and if they have an APIPA address, the registry hack is outlined in KB article
I am using Windows XP Home edition. How do you delete an address from the list of automatic webb address list in the Address box? I tried highlighting it and entering delete but it doesn't get deleted.

View 7 Replies View RelatedWhile working on my wireless on my laptop and logged onto our wireless signal, my pc advised me that it had picked up a second ip address that now conflicts with another item running on my network. Why would there be a second IP address? What does this mean? What do I do about it? I am running XP home, Zone Alarm in stealth mode and my router is a linksys. Not sure what other information I would need to provide. I click on the message in hopes that it would provide more info, but it just dissappeared. There doesn't seem any change in my computer as far as I can see.

We have XP running on an AOpen model computer. It's an Intel Pentium 4 with 1 GB of RAM and a Radeon X700 series video card. We've been having some trouble these past few days with the computer just randomly restarting for no reason. At first my father was having the trouble, but I didn't believe him. So I decided to sit down a little while ago to confirm what he told me.He initially told me the restart happened as he was burning a CD, but then after a restart he burnt like four of them in a row with no difficulty. So then he said it has occured while playing music. So I tested it out, played a song on Windows Media Player, and then tried to play a second one. Boom, instant restart.Now, as I said I was looking elsewhere. I do have the "auto restart" thing disabled, and I do not get a blue screen of death. As for cleaning the computer? Way ahead of you on that one. Prior to me sitting down to test the music thing, I unplugged everything in my computer and opened it up.
