When I open task manager, and several other programs/ windows there are white squares around the toolbar that says file, edit, view, favorites, tools, help. There is an individual box around each word. I've run a virus scan several times, I use McAfee, but it doesn't find anything. Is this a virus? Is
I don't know when/how it started, but now everytime I start windows, all my icons except My Computer, My Docs etc. appear as white squares. I know of a temporary solution, to change the icon size, and then change it back
When using Paint and I go to save an image I get the attached message. It's not an error, but the normal text is replace by squares. I've tried to uninstall paint then reinstall it through add/remove but it did not change anything. My scans show no viruses or spyware either.
I accidently downloaded an image file with extension .JEPG. I could not open the image file so I deleted it. However, the file can not be dragged into the trash can, can not be X deleted, can not be right clicking-delet, can not be renamed, as well.Is this a spyware, or something? How else can I get ride of it, I am worried,
My computer displays this message when booting up:Code: Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYST EMYou can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM.Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair. The only disk I can think it is refering to is the Operating System disk. It had an option for an automated repair thing but then it asked for a floppy disk - I didn't have one. When if finally came to the window with an option to repair the system, I hit 'r' It then said there was no hard drive available and could not proceed with the repair.
My most recent McAffee virus scan "detected and removed 3 viruses and spyware" though I did not note the file names and cannot now find out from the security report which ones they were. The system appears to be functioning correctly, but when I log in on XP I get an error message saying ufgreag.dll cannot be found I've no idea whether this .dll file is necessary
I am getting an error message from AOL safety. It reads "We found and were not able to clean or block a virus infected file. (C:windowssystem32winlogon.exe) My operating system is Windows XP.
My comp recently just caught an virus and I have tired many anti-virus programs to remove it and so far, no luck.Avast reported the file that is infected, but is unable to delete it. So I decided to check it myself, it's a file in my systems/drivers and when I tired to delete it. It saids the following "Cannot delete uwvwibuv: Cannot read from the source file or disk.". I have tired using "Unlock" to delete it, doesn't work.Note, this virus is also causing all my anti-virus programs not to connect online, so I cannot update them. I have tried using Malwarebytes-antiware, doesn't detect it. I can't use system restore because it's being blocked by group policy after "I caught the virus" (Worked before).I had tired running in safe mode, checking task for unknown programs, and I can't delete it.
A trojan virus changed my windows xp home addition configuration. I installed the free AVG virus detection software and eliminated the virus. I had to eliminate all restore points which were also infected. Now I need to change or delete a line in my config files. I keep getting a message that windows internet explorer can't find a file which was the virus file(///c:windows/privacy_danger/index.htm'. make sure the path or internet address is correct). I also get a different display background screen which I can't change. All else seems to be working properly.
Due to lapse of sense at a particular moment on my part, my DELL Inspiron laptop was not protected when accessing the internet for a download. Windows XP is the operating system. When booting up, error message states that the following file is missing or corrupt: <Windows root>system32hal.dll Please reinstall a copy of the above file. I've tried numerous programs and software packages that "guarantee" results but none have accomplished anything except wasting my time and money.

I searched for driver for my webcam. found what appeared to be the correct info on-line, but after trying to install it the desktop reverts to an all white screen. When booting fresh, the desktop background picture will display; however, as boot process proceeds, the screen turns completely white. Icons are displayed, but no picture, just the picture of a blizzard in Montana on a very cold, blustery winter day
My daughter has been going on random internet sites and even though we've got mcafee virus scans and firewalls something seems to have loaded itself on our Personal Computer and is slowly stopping it working. We keep getting what looks like spyware that pops up with a virus/PUP warning and saying we need to download spytrooper to get rid of it. A yellow triangle flashes in the bottom corner of our screen with a system alert saying spyware and adware are on our personal computer.First it changed our home page to the spyware home page and now it's stopping us accessing internet sites, says it's done and logged on but we just have a white screen with a task bar at the top.We use windows NT.
I am having a weird problem with my windows xp laptop,i don't know what could be causing it so i don't know how to fix it. Ok the problem is constant from start up to shutdown and has been occurring now for about 2 weeks. At first i thought it was a virus so i cleaned my computer but it is still occurring. The problem is this, every now and then my screen will go completely white, its just a display thing cause it happened when i was working while listening to music. it can last anywhere to just 1 sec to 5 minutes. Its constant all the way through but it gets worse if i am watching a dvd or playing a game. What is this problem and how can i fix it? i tried system restore but that didn't work.i think it may be the software i installed at the time but i can't find it in the add or remove programs list to uninstall it.
I have a Toshiba, Laptop, it's Satellite A60, and I use Windows XP home edition. After a power outage i had an active desktop error page come up, i clicked the restore button but now 1/4 of my screen is wallpaper and the rest is a bit white block, I have tried to fix this problem a number of ways but it just wont change. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If something new got added to desktop could that affect it
I wasn't paying attention to my downloads and unloaded some nasty spy/adware on my computer. I think I've got most of it weeded out, but I can't get my desktop to return to normal. It's always white. The wallpaper tries to load from time to time, but it always goes white. there is an Internet Explorer window kinda overlayed into the top left corner that I cannot close.
How come when my daughter tries to log onto certain kids web sites she just gets a blank white screen? It appears as if the site is not loading. Do I need to load or install something?
The other day while using my dads laptop, i closed the screen, and on reopening it, it displayed a blank white screen. I turned it off and back on again. It seem to be booting normally until it was time for the desktop to load, at which time the white screen returned. It boots in safe mode and i tried a system restore, which was unsuccessful.
Win xp, turn it on and I see the black & white screens telling me about hd info and I am seeing something about ide conductor 80, it goes to fast for me to see. Anyway it shuts down at different times. I cannot get it to windows. This is a cutom built machine. One thing I did notice is when I tunr the comp on all fans start to turn other than the Power Supply fan. Should this turn on as soon as there is power to the computer ?
I know is this going to sound very "lame", but here goes. My wife like the desktop theme for the seascape, it has the ships wheel when working and for the mouse is a sea shell. Very nice. But, the background is a light tan colored and I hate it, I would like the plain white background. Is there a way to keep the sea theme and still get a white background?
I just re-formatted my hard drive and re-installed Windows XP. ever since then i can only get black and White video playback on my video players: Windows Media Player 8, 10 and Nero 7 Showtime. I upgraded to all the Codecs that I had prior to my relaunch, but that did not change anything. Windows XP Ge Force4 Ti 4200
I don't even use Internet Explorer,I am currently using mozilla firefox as my browser, so in the hell do I get Internet Explorer pop-ups.Then when you try to close out of them the entire screen goes white and it won't let you close out the pop-up.Example: RUNDLL, everytime I log-on I get this message: Title Bar says RUNDLL then it reads: Error Loading C:WINDOWSsystem32atgban.dll. The specified module could not be found. What the hell does this mean?
I tried to create a shortcut of an email internet link onto my desktop and all I got was a small rectangular white box. Try as I might, I could not remove it. The box is adjustable and can be made to cover the entire desktop area behind the icons but over the current desktop theme. In my attempts to delete it I have ended up with a white box about an inch wide from the top to the bottom on the left side of the screen. I cannot reduce the size any further but as I said, I can drag the right margin all the way across the entire screen.
after some online chat with one.com creating my website i ended up with a white line 2/3rds of the way up the screen and 4mm wide. never had anything like it b4.eror
If I leave my computer on for extended periods of time I either get some kind of error message about memory (white letters on blue screen) or windows displays only my desktop background and mouse cursor when I wake it, the only way to fix either of these is to unplug the computer and plug it back in.
downloaded Morpheus and then tried to uninstall it and it just sits at this blank white screen and wont let you remove it.I tried in safe mode but it just sits there
My friend was checking for trojans, and apparently deleted Explorer.exe (we are not so clear on why). Following this, his computer (which is running Win XP Pro SP1) displays a white, icon-less desktop, with no direct access to the start menu and no right-click ability. He installed SP2 - no joy. He also can't find the original OS disk for the 3 years-old computer
last night my electric ran out suddenly...this doesnt usually happen 'cause i try to keep it all up to date (key meters for ya) When i turned my comp back on it went to the Black screen with White text, you know the one with Start Windows Normally.Start in Safe Mode etc.Well either way when i choose one of those, i get a blue screen of death appearing, can't quite remember what it said now, 'cause i am at a friend house at the moment, but i rang some tech support guy and he said my ROM had crashed, i've never heard anything like this before, so i am hoping you guys will know whats wrong, when i get back later i will find out what the blue screen has on it and post it here, but i know when the electric ran out it seriously messed something up... I don't know how to fix it, and well if i have to re-install windows, then i'll just have to, but theres usually some other way.
Any one know what the problem might be? I try to open Internet Explorer but all i get is a white screen. When i try to open some files from my desktop a window pops up asking me if want to Open/Save the file. Im always asked if i want to open/save files even if theyre part of my system. I believe its a problem with explorer.
