Somehow or other, I've lost the ability to show web content on my xp pro desktop. In particular, I'd like to show some photos, but the desktop->properties->desktop->custom->web list has no effect at all.

When I try to access the directory from the client pc's, I keep the message: "IE has restricted....from showing active content". View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an old Intel mp3 player. Intel's website stopped supporting it a long time ago but they do still suppply the XP driver. I couldn;t install the driver from Device Manager and went to the driver file itself. The computer produces a warning that "this file contains Active Content" and the computer won;t let the file open. I'n trying to open it from a folder, not from the website so this isn;t an IE warning, except it kind of is. It looks the same, it brought up the Intel website (I may have had it open) and the yellow security warning appeared. That has options to open it, I think. The software on disc was associated with MusicMatch Jukebox.I had to install MusicMatch software before I could install the Intel player software.

Frequently, when I open this page, I will get this message on my desktop but not my laptop:"To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer."Clicking for options, I get:"Are you sure you want to let this file run active content?"This is ridiculous, as there is no such "active content" on the page. Obviously, it has something to do with IE security settings.

I was in a hurry so I clicked it and since then my desktop icons have dark blue labels, indicating that it is in active desktop mode, I guess.I don't like it but I can't find any way to get out of it and get back to normal. There is nothing in the help files about it or online as far as I can see.I even tried that program that reverts you to a previous day but that didn't work either.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running Win2kPro.Quite often when I reboot, everything loads fine with the cursor working but I cannot access anything including the start button. I try ctr/alt/delete and shut down running programs but still no help.I cold reboot a couple of times and finally get the white screen saying to restore active desktop - I do this and every thing is back to normal. That is the reason I think it may have something to do with active desktop but I am not sure.

I use Firefox almost all the time, so I believe I was using Firefox when the "happy accident" occurred, but I might have been using Internet Explorer.
Can the active desktop be set to a different DPI than IE8.IE8 uses the font DPI setting of the Windows XP operating system.If you change the font DPI from its standard setting of 96 DPI normal to 120 DPI large, IE8 will render the active desktop with the same change, (since the active desktop is a web page) this will in turn change the desktop image (photo), enlarging it so that it no longer fits on to the monitor correctly, if you have 2 monitors the primary windows monitor image will be enlarged to part of the second monitor and part of the image on the second monitor will be missing. IE8 has a setting to change the DPI back to 96 DPI in the compatibility mode but the desktop image is not displayed in the IE8 browser window so it there is no setting to make the desktop image, compatible or 96 DPI. Changing the font size to large under the Appearance tab, instead of the Settings Advanced tab, does not help the small fonts in the active window. If you are using a laptop computer with 1920x1200 Screen resolution this makes the fonts in the active window painfully small. My question is: Is there some way to use IE8 with 120 DPI fonts and get the active desktop image set back to its original size?
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen you choose a wallpaper using the standard method (selecting a background on the desktop tab, in the properties window), Windows converts this image to a huge .bmp file (even if you selected a .jpg). Then instead of having a nice 220K wallpaper, you get a 3,15MB wallpaper. To get rid of this, try using active desktop's web capabilities, like this:1. Right click on your desktop and select "properties", then select the "desktop" tab.2. Click on "Customize Desktop".3. Select the "Web" tab and click on "New..."4. Browse for your favorite image and click OK when you are done.5. Make sure "Lock desktop items" is uncheck.6. Click OK, and OK again.7. Now your image is like another window. Drag it to where you want and then right clik over it.8. Select "arrange icons by" and the check "Lock Web Items on Desktop".9. That's it. Now you have a "low memory usage wallpaper".With this you can make interesting things, like using various small wallpapers, or even animated ones!! (you can select an animated .gif too!!). Simply select various images, and when you click OK, drag all them to its right location, and lock the content again.PS: If you want to check the huge wallpaper windows makes, select a wallpaper the standard way, then browse to "C:Documents and SettingsUSER PROFILELocal SettingsApplication DataMicrosoft" (where USER PROFILE, is the profile you're using, i.e. Administrator). View 9 Replies View Relatedi don't know how but no matter what i try and change my desktop is automatically what my home page is. my desktop is an active web page. it is quite annoying and frustrating because i keep thinking I'm online but my icons are over the top so i can barely read what is there. if anyone has had this problem or knows what to do please let me know. it was just completely cleared of malware and this phenomena happened during the clean up process.

Once inside a program I can navigate to and open folders I couldn't do previousy on desktop. It seems just an error when on the desktop itself.
My wallpaper vanishes and the active desktop recovery screen appears telling me to restore the desktop after somekind of windows error.
I have 3 PC's. I would like to connect to PC1 remotely from PC2 and 3, but there is a problem that I can't figure out. If PC2 is connected (to PC1) and I try to connect with PC3, I will kick off PC2 and connect. I don't wont this. How can I check if there is an active session on PC1 so that anyone who tries to connect first can see that there is another user connected?

Will somebody please tell me how to get it back cause without it I can't use Java stuff. Please don't tell me I have to reformat cause I can't do that. I have no disks to do so. View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure exactly what brought this on since this is a nearly fresh install of windows, but I have had a problem accessing any web content with internet explorer except for the web itself (thanks to firefox). This means, Help files, Windows update, web forms, and many other features are completely unusable. Whenever I acess any kind of content through IE or it's engine embedded in windows, instead of displaying the HTML I am prompted to download it (open/save dialogged) this is a serious problem and I dont want to re-install windows yet again but it looks like I might have to if things keep going this way.. any help? View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a report regarding a couple of high risk temporary internet files that are supposedly located inside certain content.ie5 folders, but those particular folders aren't showing up in any of the user profiles of this system.How do I locate them? I've done a normal search for folders named content.ie5 with 8 folders showing up, but none show the number-letter folders listed on the report. I've done a search in the XP registry and even the content.ie5 folders don't appear anywhere. Tried doing a search on just the number-letter subfolders mentioned and still nothing.I have all files and folders not hidden, including subfolders, but obviously XP ignores that direction with regard to these 'history' or 'temp int files' folders.The report came from SpyDoctor on a trial run prior to purchasing the program, so it can't remove them without purchase/registration. I've been able to remove all others listed in the report manually but not these entries because I can't locate them anywhere. If they don't show up anywhere, how does spydoctor find them?
