USB On Old Toshiba Tecra 8100

I have given my old Toshiba Tecra 8100 to a poor person, who wants to communicate with family back home in another country. Windows XPpro installed. No high level demands, except the communications mentioned below. They can do Skype audio or any of the other audio services, as all family have DSL level connectivity. But webcam is not possible from the Tecra. the Tecra 8100 does not have an ethernet port, nor a USB port. Hard to believe, but true.If I am wrong, please tell me where to look. Better, send picture.

PS fan runs, CD drive lights, opens, closes. On opening case, standby light on MB is on, stays on when computer turned off with power button. Stays on when plug pulled short time, less than a minute, goes off. When plugged in, fan starts, standby light lights, even before power button is pressed. Removed CMOS battery, waited five minutes, SB light still on. (Dell online says don't change PCI card while light is on.) The computer is my college G-daughter's; I'd like to get it fixed and back to her ASAP.

I just tried to install a new hard drive into a dell dimension 8100. It appears the motherboard is shot and so I am just going to use this new hard drive for storagew and I just want to remove XP off of it. Is it best to FDISK and if so how do I do that on XP? Is it the same as on the other operating systems or is there a better way?

I've been trying to bring my husband's older Dell 8100 P4 desktop back to life. It was an old ME system initially. I've done the following:Replaced the motherboard and ide cables New CMOS battery Flashed BIOS Replaced and upgraded the memory Reformatted the harddrive (using another system) and loaded Win XP Pro I've used this same harddrive (with XP Pro) sucessfully on another Dell so I know there is nothing wrong with the boot files. But when I install it in the broke Dell...no joy.
It hangs in the "Windows can not start normally" pick Safe Mode, Last Known Good Config...etc loop. None of the options work and it flashes a quick BSOD dump error (too fast for me to see) and then back through the loop.The BIOS recognizes all the drives, the memory, processor, etc.I also tried to boot with alot of the extra hardware removed (removed NIC, sound card, modem, un-hooked optical drives, etc) --- still same no-boot loop.

I have a Toshiba that runs on Windows XP, which I think is about a year-and-a-half old. About a month ago, I suddenly lost the sound. At first it just become really hard to hear, then barely audible, and now there is absolutely no sound.I hooked up some external speakers (which used to work in this computer), and I can't get any sound from them either. Given that, I figure the cause is not the internal speaker hardware.I've looked at all the sound settings I can find and none are muted and are all set at high levels. Not only can I not hear sound on websites and such, but also the sound effects for the computer (such as the chime I used to hear when an e-mail arrived).

I was trying to install Vista in my laptop and it did not work for no reason, now the DVD-Ram driver dooes not work and I can not use my cd/dvd unit at all, does read nothing. I got a external unit and it does not recognized either. Of course I can not run winxp again, because the cd unit does nor work. Any suggestion is a Toshiba Satellite P105-S6084.

I have an old Toshiba laptop. I bougth a laptop enclosure for this 2.5 size. In order to fit the enclosure I had to remove a bracet that was needed for the laptop. After removing it, I inserted it into the ide connector of that enclosure...fine, but I cannot close the enclosure the way it should. It misses by an 1'16 or 1'8 of an inch. Looking at the hd ( IBM ) it has a metal cover with 6 screws. It has all the specs of that hd. Its possible It may fit of I remove it, but I do not know if that is wise to the hd.

I need to reinstall Windows XP, but I don't have the disk. I can't even remember if I got one. I have the Toshiba recovery disk. Do Toshiba include the normal Windows cd? I've torn the house apart looking for it. I found all the other stuff that came with my laptop, but not that.Will the recovery disk do the same thing? If not, is it possible to use an XP installer cd from another computer?

I have a brand new Toshiba Satellite A85-S107. 40 gig harddrive. 1.4GHz processor. 256 megs ram.
A system check using MSinfo32 indicates that I only have 16 megs ofavailable physical memory and only about half of the 512 mb virtualmemory available. The shared video card takes the RAM down to 191 megs. Even when I disable every single file under Startup (msconfig)it only raises the available memory to about 26 mb. So, with virtually nothing running I have about a 75 percent memory load. Can this possibly all be attributed to Windows XP?
I realize there are other processes running in the background but I am not sure how and what to do about them. And virtualy all of them seems to be windows files. Should I just add another 256 mb of ram and not worry about it?

I have a TOSHIBA SATELLITE A100 LAPTOP. PART NUMBER, PSAA8C-SK800E. It is not even a year old however i want to do a clean install of WINDOWS XP. The problem is, He nor I, never recieved a RECOVERY DVD when he originaly got this laptop last september. The laptop is still under warrenty until september 15th 2007, i just need to know how or where to get the recovery dvd. I searched the toshiba site, but i dont know where or what to do or go.

laptop is about to get a bit of an overhaul. Extra RAM should be here tomorrow then I'm gonna wipe it and reinstall XP. It's an Equium A60 as far as I can work out (similar/same as a Satellite A60?) running XP home. She can't find the recovery disk (if it even has one?) and I only have XP Pro, Can I use my XP pro the same way as I would on a normal desktop? Stick the CD in and boot from it to install a fresh OS? Is there anything I need to look out for on a laptop?

The Toshiba Power Saver is set for the screen and HDD to shut off after 30 minutes of no activity. The screen saver is set to go after 10 minutes but after 30 minutes the screen saver stops and the normal screen comes up. I tried setting to a different power setting by right clicking the desktop and going to properties and setting it to "Portable/Laptop" but it did the same thing. Is there a way to fix this? My OS is XP Media Center and my Toshiba Satellite is a A100/A105 series.

I have a boot disk on cd,but my laptop wont boot from it.I have tried restarting it,and then pressing F1 and the delete buttons,to change the boot order but it doesnt take me to those options.What are the buttons to press other than the 2 mentioned ? Those keys always work on all my other pc's.Or do toshiba laptops not allow any changes to those items?

My computer has just crashed, and i just found out that i have lost the Toshiba Recovery CD. Apparently, according to my dad's computer friend, there are 'some sites' that provide downloads of a "boot file" that is able to recover the Windows Operating system. i honestly think that is just bogus

I have a toshiba laptop, it run XP pro, What I would like to do is add 2000 or xp pro onto a second partition, then at start up have the choice of which windows to use. I guess 2k should have been installed before xp, but I could use xp if this would allow me to do it, Any pointers in the right direction would be most helpfull.

I have a Toshiba laptop Satellite P20 (PSP26C-0JQRT7), it's running Windows XP Media Center. Even since my last windows update, it became awfully slow and it started giving me blue screen errors at boot time .once in a while. I would say that about 1 in 2 times, it wouldn't boot. Then I would try "last known good configuration" or just start normally and after a few tries, it would work. But since the last windows updates this morning (july 13th), I cannot boot without getting a blue screen error. The best I can do is boot in safe mode about once very two tries.

Toshiba satellite notebook that has something wrong with the driver. When i go to burn a dvd now or even a cd it tells me to attach an external drive, or the area where you choose which location to burn to is greyed out. I can't seem to look up the model number on the Toshiba website, the number on my receipt is A70wb200e, while the number i brought up using the system itself is mfwt020acp08.
