Jul 24, 2009my daughters laptop has come up with a problem and has a lot of pictures ect on it that we can no longer access, the pictures ect are poss still there as the hard drive space is still the same as before. the problem is in the system 32 area. computer states system32configsystemprofile is corrupted and unreadable have run a checkdisc but i cant seem to be able to run a checkdisc repair on it??????is there anything i can do or is there a program i can download to help do it????

in command prompt and restart...this message:the type of file system is raw.check disk is not available for raw drives. 3-disk management shows drive c healthy and with the FAT32 file system structure.
4-type chkdsk c: in command prompt...enter:the type of file system is FAT32....windows find errors in file system.
Temp File Causing Errors / Removing File Permanently?
Oct 26, 2006I have a laptop, and a file named 1.tmp has appeared (how or why I do not know) in my c/windows/system32 folder that throws up an error message window saying it cannot find the program to run the tmp file, and that appears on my screen every time I log on.So; I thought I could simply go into the sys32 folder and delete the 1.tmp file by putting it in the trash can, as it obviously does not belong there.BUT it will not let me, if I try I get an error message telling me I do not have access or the disc is full even when I use the administrator level so now I am completely at a loss and I do not understand.

I tried to scan with scanpst.exe but it went in vain.I tried it with other applications it worked fine.But,the problem is they all are demo versions and I gets back only 5 to 6 mails for more mails i have to buy that applications. I ran a search and found the photos searching for *.jpg but the file it says they are in is the Temporary internet file and Temp folder. Jul 25, 2005I can not change the size of the Internet Temp File cache. The slide bar moves, but the size of the file remains the same. No matter what size I select, 10, 15, or 20mb, the error message "Set size to 1 or 0" appears. If I set the size to 1, I get the same error msg. This is causing no end of problems with my e-mail. It takes upwards of 45 seconds to open each e-mail. And in most cases I can not go to any ref'ed URL mentioned in an e-mail.

Jan 9, 2007I am trialing drive encryption (TrueCrypt) and have created an encrypted D drive. I set my paging file to exist on the D drive so it is also encrypted and therefore safe and done the same with the temp directories.The problem is the screen goes all funny at boot time (splits into 4 sqiggly screens) and then comes up. It was unable to create the pagefile as there is not yet a d drive.
You have to use truecrypt to make the d drive by putting in the password, which makes sense since that's what keeps the data safe.The temp directories are used after the d drive becomes available but the pagefile.sys is not created or used that I can tell. This is a problem because either it means I have to keep the pagefile on the unencrypted C drive which is a security risk or I have to do without a pagefile entirely.

Jun 7, 2005Im doing a clean, brand spanking new install on a machine that has no floppy drive. I have switched around the boot sequence in the BIOS to boot the CD ROM first, and that recognizes the disc ok. Windows formats the unpartitioned hard drive to NTFS. At first I got an error saying the NTFS.SYS file was corrupt, so I wiped everything out, and began again. This time I partitioned the hard drive first, and it seems to want to go futher, and I no longer get the NTFS.SYS error, but when it begins copying files, it hangs at about 18 percent when it starts copying 'driver.cab' and I get a Blue Screen saying PFN_LIST_CORRUPT.

Near as I can tell these directories were created when I installed these programs, but not completely sure.
I have learned the hard way that, "Not all temp directories can or should be deleted."

Aug 22, 2005I just boot up my computer and a black screen (which i've seen before and has only led to re-install XP) came up saying the following file is missing or corrupt: /system/ntfs32(I don't recall the exact file name - next time I will write it down). But i'm sure many have experience with this.Now somehow I was still able to enter Windows after reboot and F8 (never happened before - i've always had to re-install). What can I do NOW to prevent this next time from happening and perhaps (almost certain actually) having to re-install Windows XP? Can I get that file from somwhere? Am I missing a service Pack? I have an Emachine 4160. It was loaded at time of purchase and only recovery disc were supplied. I can reboot with the recovery disc but " how can I save my pictures "? Attempts to enter safe mode have been unsuccessful.
